Personality
As a self-proclaimed introvert, Joanna feels at home in her own, cozy apartment away from the hustle and bustle of the streets where she can read or train in silence. In large groups of strangers she feels very out of element. She makes it a point to at least try and act orderly and respectfully to everyone she meets, even if she comes across a bit cold and judgmental on account of her reserved nature. Even when she does make an attempt to learn more about someone's character, it comes off as accusatory and intrusive. Only when she preaches does she breach the boundaries of her comfort zone to speak in public.
It may take some time, but eventually Joanna will warm to the people she's met as she gets to know more about them. Once she calls you her friend, an entirely new side emerges. A much more nurturing side that takes the feelings and emotions of her friends very seriously. While she, herself, is not always open about her own feelings, she does make an effort to listen and understand the feelings of those around her. She is willing to put her own happiness and well being at risk to help those less fortunate, even if it doesn't seem to make a difference. She views it as her duty, and a fitting punishment for the life she lived before her devotion to Priskil.
To Joanna, laws are the only thing standing between us and anarchy. Those who threaten the safety of the people around them will face justice at the hands of the legal system. Make no mistake, Joanna is not a vigilante, but she will happily bring the accused to trial and let those in charge pass judgement. The laws are her commandments and their authors are her preachers. It is her hope that by adhering to this philosophy she can help bring light to a dying world. Her devotion to Priskil is a testament to this. Through prayer and scripture, Joanna finds courage to march onwards, spreading the word of her goddess to those who have lost faith in the light. For her, there is no greater honor. Even if she has no mark.
In her fight for justice, Joanna prefers the smashing power of a mace above the flimsiness of a sword. It is her intentions to incapacitate, rather than kill. To break bones, rather than pierce skin. After all, you can't administer justice to a corpse. Joanna never aims to kill. She will splinter their shields, shatter their armor, crack their bones, but will never aim for the vulnerable areas of the head and chest. In reality, Joanna would prefer not to fight at all. In a perfect world, she would be able to reason with her assailant and come to a non-violent compromise.
But aside from the fighting and aside from her pursuits of justice, Joanna is still a woman. She enjoys the simple things in life: good food, good company, and good weather. On quiet days she loves to make trips into town to shop or spend lunch at a cozy corner cafe. If weather permits, her Kelvic form emerges and the warrior strolls through the pleasant countryside soaking in the sun. There are even times when Joanna will indulge in some pretty heavy drinking. The consequences aren't always pleasant, though.
History
Growing up in a lawless city does little to help develop a thirst for justice, but the Familiaris family was one of very few households that positioned itself as one of the last bastions of honor in the city. It can be argued that living in such a environment made it all too clear how much the world needed order. Joanna's father, a Lightbringer, was an ambitious man whose devotion would pass on to his daughter after his untimely death. It was ruled as a fishing accident, but everyone knew the true intentions. Joanna and her siblings did all they could to help fill his absence while their mother tried desperately to cope with the loss. Eventually, madness overtook her and left the three siblings without any legal guardians.
By that time, however, the three had already reached their late teens. It was the ripe age for exploration, and Joanna took the opportunity to do just that. While one of her brothers decided to stay home and take up their father's goals, Joanna set off on the path of enlightenment. She has no idea what became of the third sibling, but her quest has taken her so far from home that she has not thought much about it.
Thus began an adventure through the wilds of Mizahar that would continue till this day. An adventure that has taken her from Cyphrus to Taldera, and many lands beyond. She makes her pilgrimage in the knowledge she is spreading joy and hope. And there are many more roads to travel, one of which have taken her to the main city of Sylira: Syliras.
