Lora smiled and nodded when Garland asked if she wanted to go to the docks. “That would be lovely.”
The park was truly a beautiful place. The leaves changing made it even more so. When walking through the area, one could almost forget they were in the city at all. It seemed as though the tranquility of the park took anyone walking through it to a completely different place than the ever bustling city that was Syliras. Despite all that, Lora was excited to go to the docks. She loved the park it was beautiful and she wanted to spent more time there but more than that, she wanted to see new places she hadn’t visited yet. There seemed so many things had changed since she had been here and while it was all a bit intimidating, she was excited by it all. When she was here before she had enjoyed spending time by the docks, everything about the water had always enchanted her. Now she longed to see what had inevitably changed.
Lora beamed as Garland recounted the park in spring time. She remembered everything he said to be true. The flowers and all their beauty had been something Lora always loved to see. She couldn’t wait for spring to come again if only to see the blossoms. Mura had been beautiful but there there was something very alluring about seeing that kind of attractive scenery in the middle of the city. The contrasted seemed to make it even more gorgeous.
“Spring...” Lora reminisced in a far off voice. “It always was my favorite season.”
As they continued to walk among the trees, Garland asked, "Hey, do you still have that handkerchief I gave you?"
“Oh! Oh, I apologize. ” She gasped. “When I moved from to Mura I could take very little, since we had to go so quickly. I could only take what I really needed. ”
When she had left, between her mother’s ailing health and the distance they would need to travel, she was only able to take what she needed with her. Lora doubted she would ever be coming back to Syliras and so she would never need the handkerchief again. It had gotten so worn by weather from hanging outside her window that she doubted she had any use for it at all.
Upon arriving at the docks, Lora was surprised to see not much had changed. Although there was quite a bit different about the physical surroundings, although she couldn’t remember much about the specifics of the docks from before, the feeling of the area was the same. It was still amazingly busy and crowded, still bustling and full of people that didn’t care what Lora was doing. When she was younger, her mother hadn’t liked when she went to these docks for fear that she would be injured in the chaos. Of course, these docks were much different from the ones back on Mura, where Lora used to sell her wares. On Mura, they were calm and organized, just as everything was in Mura. This sense of chaos of one of the things she had missed about Syliras.
“Yes, it is much busier than Mura. Everything was so very peaceful there.” Lora confirmed when Garland voiced the very idea that she was thinking. “Well, there was one other place I have been wanting to visit. The place where we first met. Do you remember? No, I doubt you do. It was so long ago. The bazaar. It would be lovely if we could visit the bazaar, if that is alright with you, that is. ”
Lora took a few small steps forward and paused. She watched as a pair of sailors struggled to lift a sail on their small wooden boat. They seemed to be quarreling about something but their shouts were lost in the voices of the crowd that surrounded Lora.
“But… maybe we should stay here. At least for a bit.” Lora mused. “We walked the whole way here, I’d hate for it to have been for nothing.” She doubted that even if they did leave now it would have been for nothing. She had got to see this place again and something about being back here, even for this short time, seemed to help her remember what it was like to live here before.
“I think I would like to walk around for a bit before we leave. Then maybe we can go to the bazaar.” Lora smiled and began to walk further into the bazaar.
As she continued, she was even more surrounded by crowds of people and salty scent of fish. She looked around and her eyes fixed on the murky water just over the sides of the docks. It was far less clear than any of the water in Mura had been and, unlike Mura’s water, didn’t make Lora immediately want to jump in. Although it was different, there was definitely something interesting about it. There was something interesting about everything Lora saw in Syliras.
