AppearanceRace: Akvatari
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Birthday: 41, Spring, 496
Birthplace: Abura
Appearance:The first thing most notice about Eldrid is the pair of translucent wings sprouting from her back. The large wings are intricately patterned and their soft grey membrane seems exceptionally delicate to those unwise to Akvatari biology. After the wings most spot the soft, mottled grey tail akin to a seal which replaces the lower half of Eldrid's slender figure. Her eyes have a deep hazel colour slightly lighter than her short cut, brown hair. She frequently wears a toga over the usual band of clothing worn by most of her race. The toga is wrapped elegantly and carefully around her body to allow her wings freedom of movement. Her delicate fingers are usually smudged with charcoal from her work with either drawing or writing.
Character ConceptAspiring melodramatic poet with high expectations of herself.
Character HistoryBorn and raised in Abura Eldrid had a fairly normal Akvatari childhood. Or as normal as things were for the aerial-aquatic-melancholic race. She spent the early years of her childhood exploring the immense, oddly built city of Abura, often stumbling upon spaces commandeered as art galleries or performance areas. She found it surprisingly easy to simply sit down in one of these spaces and ignore the rest of the world for hours, focusing only on the art before her. She often found the decidedly sombre art pieces to be quite enthralling, although at that age she enjoyed it more because it was pretty or sounded nice than for the actual meaning.
As Eldrid grew older she started seeing the meanings in the artwork. Her mother and father assisted her greatly in this respect, although she was quite an independent little soul. She began to see the patterns in art, and the metaphors or allusions in poetry. It was around this age when she became entranced with the world of the arts. And so her first efforts in drawing and writing began.
Several years later Eldrid's skills had advanced further in the fields of sketching and poetry, but she was never satisfied. Some mistook it for competitive spirit, while others thought it was a drive to improve. To Eldrid, it was disappointment. No matter how often she drew, or what she drew or the combination of methods she used to capture the item in question, satisfaction eluded her. And it was much the same with poetry, she wrote versus others found deep and meaningful or impressive (while slightly depressive as well) she always felt that she had not created something to be proud of.
In the end it was this pressure she placed upon herself that caused her to depart from Abura. She felt that while Abura had much to offer, she had entered a point where there was nothing to express. She often explained it using the phrase, "I have been here for 17 years, and yet I have lived the same year over and over since I could draw."
She found herself tired of the city. There was still beauty in it's architecture, that much she would never deny, but to her, that was the normal scenery of everyday life. That was what she had seen for 17 years, and it did not inspire her any more than the kelp she ate raw every day. Eldrid packed her backpack and threw on her most comfortable silk Toga, something she had begun wearing whenever she read poetry or told stories for a more dramatic appearance, and left.
She departed for Eyktol first, where she met her horse whom she affectionately refers to as "Dune". With this horse she began to write about the seas of sand and sketch images of the hammering sunlight which made up the region of Eyktol, all of which were decent pieces, but not something Eldrid would be satisfied with. She ended up burning most of her pieces in a melodramatic tantrum. Something she still claims was more artistic than wasteful, while others form what conclusions they will. She and Dune then departed the region after almost 2 years and moved on to Cyphrus, the land she had heard of which possessed a Sea of Grass.
