Lora approached the closed door to her new shop. She frowned. Her hands were full carrying her palette, covered in a rainbow of paints, and a bowl full of water. Carefully balanced the bowl on a open shop on her palate, she had a free hand to open the door.
She opened the door, ready for her first day at her new job. Yesterday, she had spent nearly the whole day preparing the shop and so she had decided to just go home after it was ready. Today she was actually going to sell something.
Leaving the door opened so that the early morning sunlight streamed into the shop, creating a stripe on the floor. The yellow light gave the hard looking room a more warm and nice feeling. Lora smiled. She decided that from now on she would leave the door opened to the shop every day. She only hoped it wouldn’t make the room get too cold. She adjusted the cloak that hung around her neck as she thought about the cold.
Lora set her palate and water bowl down on the desk. Taking her satchel off of her shoulder, Lora plopped it down on the ground next to her new chair and she took a seat in it. It wasn’t the most comfortable seat she had ever been it. It was hard wood. She scooted it in closer to the desk.
Reaching over, she pulled her satchel up onto the desk next to the pallette. It made a subtle thud as it hit the hardwood. She pulled the bag opened. There were a number of canvases in the bag, each waiting to be painted on. Lora selected one of the medium sized canvases. Then she reached into the bottom of her bag, to do that she had to stand up because her arm was not long enough. She scooped up her set paint brushes and laid them out on the desk.
Running her eyes over all of the objects she had lain out on the desk, Lora made sure she had everything she needed for painting. Once she was sure she had everything, she set the satchel back onto the ground and prepared to paint.
With the blank canvas set out in front of her, Lora realized there was nothing for her to paint. When she had sold her paintings in Mura she had the entire ocean and constantly changing types of boats to paint. Now there was only the inside of the building. She knew she could probably paint the inside of the building but she found nothing particularly interesting about it.
Lora suddenly realized that she was going to need to paint something without looking at it. This was a form of art that she had been wanting to do for a while now. She had tried it numerous times before but she hoped that now that she was forced to do it, she hoped she would get better at it. Maybe she would even developed her own style.
Taking a deep breath, Lora prepared to start painting.
