Working at the Windmount Stable

Postby Jade Laken on January 23rd, 2016, 6:41 am

35th Winter 515 A.V.

Jade walked into the kitchen and made some tea as her hair was all over the place from tossing and turning in her sleep. She kept thinking back to the dream of her father telling everyone that the young woman was infertile and useless. Whistling from the tea pot startled the young woman causing her to jump, but not shouting out to keep from waking up Ferrin. Jade shakes her head and gets down a couple of cups to put the tea in. Her mind drifted off once more wondering if sleeping on the floor was causing her to dream of home; she reached out still not focused and touched the metal handle on the tea pot. Jerking her hand back Jade hissed in pain and quickly got ice cold water on her hand before it had a chance to blister up and become any more painful.

“Crap that hurt,” Jade said and shook her hand some drying it off and getting a better look at the burn.

Jade walked back to her part of the apartment and shuffled in her bag to find the gauze she carries. Once she managed to get the edge of the gauze to pull, the woman pulled a long part of the gauze off the roll using her dagger the woman cut off the strip of gauze. Slowly she wrapped the gauze around her hand wincing lightly she made sure the gauze was tight before fastening it down. After checking over her work and flex her fingers she put all the medical supplies away and went back to the kitchen. Making sure the girl had something between her hand and the kettle she poured some tea and sat at the table. Slowly the woman drank her tea while feeling the burning sting in her hand.

“It will be hard today, but I will have to power through just like back home,”
Jade said making her mind up that she would not allow a small burn to make her appear weak on her first day at work.

Jade looked at the time as she finished her tea and stood up putting away the cup and making sure the tea was off the heat before getting her coay and heading out. Making sure the door was closed Jade walked down to the entrance of the apartments. She waved to the woman behind the desk before walking out of the door into the cold. Jade pulled her coay close to her as she looked up to the soft snow fall. Smiling gently Jade closed her eyes and let some of the snow fall on her face; she turned her face down and walked away from the warm of the building behind her and into the silent snowfall. Or at least what she considered quiet as the low roar of the streets was nothing to the shouting of merchants and hunters trying to get their stallions and mares ready for the day.

Jade walked for some time finally finding the Windmount Stables.

Working at the Windmount Stable

Postby Jade Laken on January 26th, 2016, 6:09 am

“There it is,” Jade said with a smile as she had finally found the building.

Quickly the woman hurried inside and to her new boss's office. She petted Diria's muzzle as she walked by finding the woman who owned the stables. Jade got her assignment sheet for the day and looked it over. Since it was her first day the woman had been put on mainly cleaning the stalls and brushing down the horses. Jade walked out of the office and went into the cleaning room finding what she needed to start cleaning out the stalls. The woman started with the first open stall; she opened the door and took out the old hanging hay and checked the water making a note to refill it once she was finished mucking out the stalls and putting down fresh hay.

Jade took out the rake for the stall and made sure the wagon was close by. She had not mucked out a stall before since the things were strange to Endrykas, but she was more than happy to learn. Slowly the woman pushed the rake under a pile of clumped together hay on the floor. The girl scrunched up her nose at the smell knowing she would need a good bath when she returned from work later that day. Slowly the woman got the old hay cleaned out of the stall and everything that was hidden within the hay was also in the wagon. She walked out with the wagon to clean it out of the current pile before returning inside shivering some from the cold as she had left her coay in the office where she would retrieve it after work.

Walking back inside with the wagon going ahead of her the girl put the wagon down in front of another stall currently vacant. Before starting on the new stall she walked to where the hay was and began to spread it out on the ground around the stall while humming. Once the stall had new fresh hay on the floor she put fresh hay in the net and hung it in the stall. She filled up the water trough with water and smiles at the work she had done. Jade walked out of the stall and closes the door and latched it before starting on the next stall. The young girl opened the next stall and began to once more clean up the stall of the hay on the ground. Scrunching up her nose was becoming something the woman was used to already in the stables.

Jade walked outside of the building to take a deep breath of fresh air to clear her head some. Going back inside of the building she smiled seeing the horses. Excitement was an understatement, Jade had been dying to begin working with the horses. Jade quickly skipped over to the stall so happy to start working with horses though she did go down and visit Diria first promising her that soon she would be next.

Working at the Windmount Stable

Postby Jade Laken on January 27th, 2016, 12:21 am

Jade walked to the next stall after having finished the first two already empty stalls. She walks to a stall with a mare in there already. The young blond smiles and pets the mare's muzzle gently, she opens the stall door and used a lead to walk her out of the stall. Once the mare was out of the stall Jade began working on cleaning up the floor while whistling to help pass the time. Soon the stall was cleaned out and restocked with hay and water. Jade stretched out and walked into the tack room grabbing the stuff she needed to brush down the mare.

“How does a good brushing sound big girl?” Jade asked with a smile and patted the mare's side.

The mare snorted and looked at the gray eyed woman before looking away not very interested. Jade laughs gently happy that the mare was not bothered by her. The woman moved her blond hair out of the way and began to brush the mare's back feeling at peace. After some time Jade moved around to the other side of the mare and brushed down her right side. The mare snorted and fidgeted wanting to be done with the tiresome grooming. Jade smiles and coos to the mare not wanting her to move before she can finish brushing her down.

“Easy big girl. Let me check your hooves,” Jade said with a bright smile at her to show no harm.

The mare settled down listening to the young girl as she spoke softly. Jade smiles and got the pick before taking her left front hoof in her hand. Softly the woman cleaned out the mare's hoof of rocks. The woman let go of the mare's hoof and smiled to see the mare test the hoof and find no pain. Staying put the mare lifted her back leg up to show she wanted the same kind of relief again. Laughing gently Jade took the hoof so that the mare would not have to hold up her leg for a long period of time. After some time cleaning all four hooves the mare pranced in place to show her happiness with the now clean hooves. Jade laughs gently looking at the mare gently before taking the lead and returning her to the stall. She took the lead off and closed the stall door.

“Good girl,” Jade said with a smile and looked at the name on the plate, “let's see if you are on a special diet or not.”

The young woman walked over to the list and found the name of the mare. She looked at the information on the chart. Surprise did not begin to cover the emotion Jade felt seeing the detailed file of the mare and what diet she was on.

“Wow. Horses for the Knights are kept on a super strict diet,” Jade said amazed looking over the file still.

Working at the Windmount Stable

Jade jumped hearing the laugh of a knight behind her. She sighed gently when she realized it was just a knight coming in to check on his stallion.

“Sorry. Not used to people in armor making so little noise,” Jade said looking at the man before her and closes the file.

“I did not mean to startle you miss,” the knight said looking at the woman, “it is true that we have the stallions and mares all kept on a strict diet. We don't want them to be slowed by their weight.”

Jade was amazed that the knight would think a horse's weight would be the biggest factor in how fast the animal can move. She fought the snide mark about his armor and weapons being the real reason why a horse would be slowed down.

“Yes. I was going to give the mare in the third stall a carrot for being so good while I cleaned out her hooves and brushed her down,” Jade said explaining so he didn't think she was going to feed them all for no reason.

The knight nodded listening to the girl and checked on his stallion. Jade took out a small book she carries and writes the names of which horses are on a strict military diet for the knights. After some time the knight left out once more. Grey eyes made their way to where the knight had disappeared before a high pitch laugh rang out. She could no longer hold in the laughter of such a ridiculous idea.

“Horse's are only as fat as the amount of exercise they have,” Jade said as she fed Diria well, but the mare was in good shape, “isn't that right Diria?”

The mare snorted and scratched the ground with her front hoof. Jade finished laughing and got up stretching out and putting the files away. Getting up from the small table she had taken a seat at while looking over the files, the blond walked back to the stalls and got the lead taking out the next horse as it was a beautiful stallion.

“Hey handsome,” Jade said with a smile and knelled down seeing the injuries on his knees, “what did you run into big boy?”

Jade knew the injury well as she had seen it many times on the plains more from her father's strider than from most others. Jade gently touched to the stallion's knees; the stallion snorted and tried to pull away from her hands.

“Easy big boy easy,” Jade said looking up at the stallion gently.

Slowly the woman stood up up and pets his muzzle gently. She patted his shoulder and tied his lead to the notch before going in the office.

“If I may have a moment miss. Have you seen the stallion's knees?” Jade asked worried about the injuries.

“I have the vet came out and said that the injuries shouldn't last long but that was several weeks ago,” the woman said.

“I just wanted to check. I have seen injuries like that out on the plains,” Jade said.

Jade sighs gently and nods happy to hear that. Jade excused herself after speaking to the woman for a few more moments. Jade walks over to the stallion and smiles gently getting the brush and beginning the peaceful task of cleaning the dirt from the stallion's back making sure to be careful around his knees. Smiling gently and praising the stallion for being so well behaved.

“Let me get your stall cleaned out big boy,” Jade said with a smile and started to work on cleaning out the stall.

Jade mucked out his stall with a smile not bothered by the staring of the stallion. Once finished the girl takes the wagon out back and cleans out the wagon out for the day. Leaving the wagon out back to dry the girl returned to the slightly warmer stables. Jade shook some of the snow from the top of her head and got the new hay put down as well as the new netting of hay. Smiling gently at the stallion the young woman lead him back into the stall after putting more water in the trough.

“There we go big guy all clean,” Jade said with a smile happy that the stall was clean so that the stallion stood no chance of getting an infection.

Jade closed the door to the stallion's stall and turned to see the boss step out and look at her.

“Yes, ma'am?” Jade asked looking at her.

“You can go grab some lunch,” she said and returned to the office.

Jade dusted off her hands with a smile and walked out of the building and went to find something to eat. Jade smiles ready to eat the dried meat she has in her bag and just relax for a bit before returning to work. Jade sat down under a tree and took out the dried meat before eating and relaxing. She allowed her mind to wander back to home and how her father had tried to exile her for arguing with him about the care of her mare. Sighing gently the woman closed her gray eyes relaxing into a quiet state listening to the world around her. She wanted to try webbing, but knew it would be futile as there is no known web to her knowledge.

“The one time I would be able to properly and safely enter is the only time it's not here,” Jade said with a sigh looking up at the sky watching the soft snow fall from the sky.

Jade watched the people around the city scurry trying to stay out of the snow. Shaking her head gently the young woman stood up and stretched going to the stables. Finishing out the day with two more stalls and two more horses. Jade checked out with the boss and walked out into the late of the day. Sighing gently she walked off to go home and see what Ferrin wanted to do for supper that afternoon.
