The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

Image Timestamp - 15th of Winter 510AV
Location - The Sea of Grass Heading toward the Coastline
Purpose - To explore the possibility of finding a mythical ship upon the shores of Cyphrus
Status - Open

The sun was bearing down upon the heads of the travelers, light tendrils of the breeze brushed their cheeks, and the grasses waved before their eyes. It was a beautiful day for an expedition and the spirits of the party were high. They had left the tent city of Endrykas in the early morning hours just as the sun began to peek over the horizon, and had been moving without pause for several hours. The sun gave them an easy monitor of the time, telling them that a mid-day snack was quickly becoming overdue.

Trios had gathered this group for a single purpose. This being to find the source of a myth, a myth that involved both mystery and the excuse to leave the confines of a crowded city. They were looking for a wreck that was dubbed the Infortunatus. This wreck was the centerpiece of a rumour talking about the dangerous coast of Cyphrus, and how this ship supposedly was being trailed by sea bandits. Unfortunately for the mythical crew, the captain was unaware of a certain shallow water reef and his ship had payed the price of ignorance. This broken ship was the object of the party’s search. To find not only if the myth is true, but if it is then to take the bounty left by the deceased crew.

But for now the stomach ruled the minds of this particular group of treasure hunters, not the promise of a full purse....

Earth, Wind, and Water (Trios, Open)

Postby Trios on December 17th, 2010, 7:53 pm

OCC: Waiting on 2-3 people to see if they’d want to hop in on the quest. Conrad is all I know who’s definitely in on the adventure.

“For all the respect the Drykas have for Cyphrus's nature it sure doesn’t change much!” Growled Trios giving a annoyed look at the sea of grass that expanded onward into the horizon. The endless grassland looked the same to the Isur no matter which way he looked. To summarize what he saw would be simply endless green below mirrored by endless blue above. Added by the fact that the Isur’s stomach growled at the continuous walking and hauling of travel supplies on his back, the man was getting angry at the littlest of things.

“I hope you all brought your own food, my charity doesn’t come cheap” said Trios coldly reaching into his leather jacket pulling out a box compass he had bought a few day’s earlier. Flicking it open Trios checked that they were still heading in a westward direction to the coastline. Seeing that their heading was satisfactory Trios gave a sigh of annoyance at his growing hunger. Replacing the compass for one of the five apples in his rucksack Trios cast a glance at his companions. Not wanting to give up his food easily Trios hopped they had some sort of rations for themselves. Apples were a good fruit and Trios wanted to enjoy the ones he had bought.

He had remembered telling Conrad to pack for a long journey to the coast so that was one working hand that should have had the foresight to bring some sort of food or rations. One who could use magic to turn his hand into stupid things seemed like they should have some intelligence, even if he was sort of an air head.

“Maybe a breather is in order, you look like you need a break lad” said Trios looking at Conrad who was closest to him. It was also convenient to put the subject of a quick break in the journey on someone else’s state of being than your own. Trios was probably in the same hungry and tired state as the rest of the people that followed him, but the only thing that was different was that Trios tried to hide his current fatigue.

As Trios came to a sudden stop he turned to face the others. Taking a violent bite of his fruit almost made it clear to everyone that the break concept seemed to be a good idea. As Trios took more greedy bites from his apple, it's juice seemed to run down his face before getting lost inside his deep blue beard. The food, clear skies and break felt good on the body and Trios could feel himself slowly lose his irksome nature.

Conrad just rolled his eyes as the short isur besides him began to complain about the nature and the drykas, for almost the third time in the same bell.
"Its probably because of that that they call it the sea of grass Trios" Conrad said in an irritated tone, his empty stomach and burning legs grating on his normally goodhearted personality.
“I hope you all brought your own food, my charity doesn’t come cheap!” Trios grunted out, pulling out a small box out of his jacket and looking at it. Sighing in annoyance as he put it back in, pulling out an apple instead."Yes I got my own food and if we really are in need of food I got a snare for rabbits, we could get by a few days if we are lucky with that."Conrad continued to walk, his parrot just chewing on a nut he gave him earlier to keep him quiet,he didn't want a repeat from the incident a few days ago.
“Maybe a breather is in order, you look like you need a break lad” Trios looked up at conrad, who just nodded.
"Sure, I could use one,get something in my stomach while we are at it." Conrad sat his backpack on the ground and began rummaging through it,looking for his rations that he bought when he was guided to the market by sama'el a few day's ago. He gave a sly smile towards trios as he sat down to eat some it.
"Though you can't fool me, You are just as tired as I am, maybe even more so with those short legs of yours." He bit into the ration making a face at the bland taste of it. His parrot finally finished his nut and squawked in his ear, making it clear he also was hungry.
"Sure you little ball of feathers, just wait a second will you?" conrad reached into the rucksack hanging around his waist and fished out a couple of nuts dropping them in front of him. The parrot rubbed his beak against conrads cheek in an affectionate manner before he dived towards the nuts, using his strong beak to creak through the shells.

Postby Sama'el Sunsinger on December 18th, 2010, 11:03 pm

Sama'el rode the grasses with the equanimity of an native, though he had spent a goodly portion of his life exiled from his homeland. Today he rode his golden Strider, Dohaina, with the typical Drykas yvas, while Horse, his Windrunner, played pack animal. Horse was built for speed, but here on the plains, Dohaina was faster, able to tap into the Drykas Web to boost her energy. But the next day, he would ride Horse, because his old companion frequently got jealous of the Strider mare.

Dymphna and Denen had been upset to see him go, but he thought they understood his need to gain status and money in order to raise a pavilion, and in any case, he had been ordered to accompany these outsiders to the coast by the Stormwatch, even if he could only read the Web for about a hundred miles in any direction. Nobody here knew he could access the Web at all, unless they assumed all Drykas could.

Certainly, it was strange to see the Web away from the concentration of energy that Endrykas was. The rest of Cyphrus seemed practically bare, though he could sense the Web without too much effort.

When the Isur ordered a halt, Sama'el dropped easily out of the saddle, pulling a two handfuls of oats out of Horse's packs to offer his two animals for a snack. He might partake of something after they had, but their health and happiness was more important to him than his own.

"Pardon me," he said mildly to Conrad and Trios as his hands were nibbled clean. "If our supplies get dangerously low, I can hunt for fresh meat and such." It was good to be needed.

“I kinda hoped ya could do that Drykas! I didn’t offer you a share in this venture just for the company of a horse loving pretty boy” Growled Trios coldly looking at Sama’el, the Isur’s eyes seemed to burn through the companion that was the last addition to the group. The hostility towards the Drykas male would only originate from the Isur’s lack of trust towards the young male. Trios only liked those that he trusted and respected, the same also applying in reverse. This might also explain why Trios refered to Sama’el as “kid” or “Drykas”.

“Also manners don’t do nothing for me kid, I don’t take to much stock in words” Finished Trios coldly taking another violent bite of his apple. Sama’el from what Trios could see so far looked and acted like every other Drykas in Endrykas. But from the Isur’s searching in Endrykas had found Sama’el to be the only guide that would guide the search to the coastline on a the agreement of equal share if something of value was found. Trios would be dammed if he was to pay upfront for a guide, he was in need of one but not “that” desperate for one.

Trios’s attention slowly shifted towards the bird lover Conrad who apparently saw through the Isur’s masquerade of trying to not appear to be tired. This kid seemed to throw back every insult and complaint right back Trios, it was annoying in an impressive type of way. But that didn’t change his naïve nature that seemed to cling onto the boy’s personality.

“These SHORT legs are still long enough to kick your ass Conrad! Plus be thankful that I’m not that tired to see your pet there as a decent meal” Trios had to swallow a chuckle which made it obvious that Trios was attempting to hide a hearty laugh and grin at the threat which the Isur treated as a joke. Parrot was probably a disgusting meat to eat and the fact that it was Conrad’s pet, who knew where that thing had been. Wild animal meat is way better than the meat of something that had been sadistic to its very core.

“Hey Drykas, how far are we from the coast?” Asked Trios in his usual tone to the guide, knowing how long the hike would be towards the coast seemed like a valuable piece of information. As Trios waited for the answer he launched his apple core into the tall grass.

Conrad sighed again when Trios just continued to be rude to sama'el, feeling sorry for the boy that he had to guide trios and just kept silent while he was speaking not really wanting to get the short isur's temper even worse.
He let out a sigh as Trios slowly shifted his attention to him and just took a bite out of his bland rations, waiting for the insults Trios would surely say to him.

“These SHORT legs are still long enough to kick your ass Conrad! Plus be thankful that I’m not that tired to see your pet there as a decent meal”
Conrad snorthed at the first remark, "Right, you could probably hit my chins if you really wanted to but my ass is out of reach for your little feet." He chuckled, seeing the badly hidden mirth behind trios' voice.
"I dare you to try, you know what he did the last time, I don't doubt he has more ammo to spend on you." He took another bite of his rations and looked at trios with a boyish grin on his face.
Sighing again when trios just threw away his eaten apple asking another question to sama'el.
"Don't take it personally sama'el, Trios is just cold to everyone, hell a few days ago he threatened to punch me in the face!" Conrad laughed at the memory.
"He is mostly talk about that stuff though, he still hasn't punched me."

Trios' abuse slid off Sama'el's back like water off a duck's feathers, and he scanned the horizon as well as opening his senses to the Web around him to gauge their distance from the coastline. He had considered nocking an arrow and aiming it at Trios' face, but that wouldn't improve his mood at all. When Conrad spoke, attempting to smooth feathers that weren't even ruffled, Sama'el smiled and shrugged. After all, he was partly here to keep an eye on the foreigners.

"We've about forty to fifty miles yet to the coastline," he said. "A day or two of easy riding, but no telling how long with you both afoot." His smile was gentle rather than mocking. Young enough that the thought of adventure perked him up, there was little that might dampen his mood just then.

“And I’m still debating it too, but we can’t have you crying the entire trip can we?” Said the Isur as Conrad had reminded him that a act of violence was still owed on the lad’s head. But it was more fun to hang the threat over the kids head than to follow through with it. Plus Trios thought it best to avoid the bird for a bit, the thing was evil. The Isur had no idea why Conrad would keep such a thing with him, let alone pay for the vast amount of nuts the thing seemed to eat.

As Sama’el told the group of the distance Trios decided that they had spent a good amount of time resting and it was passed due to get the group moving forward. Trios’s goal seemed to once again burn within the Isur as hunger subsided. Looking at the sky briefly with intense eyes Trios slammed his gaze back upon the guide.

“Ha! I’d be dammed to have some pompous Drykas beast beat me in travel.” Boasted the Isur as he slammed his fist into his chest in an act of intimidation. Sure it was unlikely to beat a horse in travel distance but it was the thought of moving that fast made the statement worth hearing.

“Common ladies, I would like to sleep on a sandy beach tonight” Growled the Isur gathering his things as he started to walk in a westward direction.

Conrad gulped when Trios threatened to bash his head in.
"I wouldn't cry." Conrad just muttered under his breath, hoping that trios didn't hear that pathetic retort, or he just might do it to let him cry.
Though he perched up a bit when he heard sama'el say it was only 4O miles to the beach.

"Then lets go!" Conrad stood up and his parrot flew back to his shoulder and he shoved the last part of his ration in his mouth.
“Ha! I’d be dammed to have some pompous Drykas beast beat me in travel.”
Snickering a bit at Trios' boast. "Right Trios, you would barely be able to keep up with me with those short legs of yours." Laughing at the way trios was trying to intimidate him.
“Common ladies, I would like to sleep on a sandy beach tonight” The isur growled out. Conrad just stood up and followed Trios.
"So what are we exactly seeking? You told something about treasure."

Sama'el remained good-natured, merely smiling at the bickering between Isur and the young man he had met a few days before. It had been a fortuitous thing, or might have been, if they were to find treasure or something of the sort. Such would boost Sama'el's standing among the pavilions, and help provide the capital for his own pavilion. He daydreamed a bit as they continued on about what he would have to purchase and what he could make himself. He needed more horses, of course, especially Seme to carry the pavilion he would one day own. His thoughts frittered along well worn paths; he had spent a deal of time on such things.

Perhaps he had chosen the worst season to join the Stormwatch, being sent out in the middle of winter on what might be a wild goose chase when he should have been home taking care of winter tasks, and certainly he missed Dymphna and Denen, but this was where life had taken him and he knew they would be waiting for him upon his return. Such a certainty was new for him.

With an ear open for Trios' explanation, he let the rest of his senses melt into the surrounding Web, but just enough to taste the energies and perhaps feel a thread of alarm before danger got close enough to take them. In such a case, he would have to play it off as a knowledge of the prairies.
