The fruit... It took Aranta a moment to place what fruit Ferrin was talking about, and when it clicked, he grinned. "The red one!" he says triumphantly. "The one that is usually sweet." The Zith wasn't too fond of the red apples, but he'd once had a green one that was delicious; he loved tart fruits. Aranta nodded to himself, satisfied, and then listened intently to Ferrin's next words - they would try a simple sentence next: My name is Aranta.

The Zith copied down Ferrin's writing, naming the letters to himself as he went and placing the groups - the words - the appropriate distance apart. Tilting his head in puzzlement, the Zith could see the individual letters, and he could clearly see that they were meant to form words, and he knew which words they were forming, but he was having a bit of a hard time putting the things he knew together to form a whole. Crouching down next to what he'd just written, Aranta carefully said, "My.... name... is... Aranta." He pointed at each word as he said it, then frowned in concentration. "When the letters are put together, they make different sounds," he says slowly, still frowning. "They don't all make the same sound as their name."

The Zith glanced to the sky; it was dusk, now, and nearly night; Aranta understood that not all creatures were like the Zith, preferring to be more active at night than they were during the day. The daylight was often too bright for the Zith to see clearly, forcing them to walk about constantly squinting. Humans, as Aranta understood, much preferred the day to the night. Many of them feared the night, and what it might hold; a valid concern, given that Zith and other predators hunted under the cover of darkness. The Zith would have gladly given up hunting for the night if it meant that he could continue this lesson, but he did not have himself to think about, and he knew that he could not keep Ferrin here, especially if he had other duties to attend to; the Symenestra had never taken very kindly to Aranta trying to keep them past when they wanted to stay. Aranta sighs, and then nods. "We can continue another day," he agrees. "I should go hunt; the butcher will need more meat."

Ferrin was near dumbfounded. He really hadn't understood how to teach others to read and write. He'd figure that he could have done what his mother had taught him awhile back. When he had learned to write. His mother was fairly kind and quite protective. The Kenashian could recall days to when he had so many problems with grammar and punctuation. Even now, he still has problems. Especially, when his brain turns fuzzy and all. Ferrin merely chuckled at Arantas comment about the apples, it was half funny and half realizing that Ferrin couldn't teach. So, it could possibly mean embarrassment for him as well, maybe? Or, was Ferrin learning something about Aranta that he didn't know he could learn?

"Yes, Aranta. Like the red fruit. From the trees. Green ones to. Also, there can be yellow."Ferrin snapped back into reality from realizing once again that he's creating sentences with his own mouth and was really starting to wonder how words are created himself. Maybe that is something for him to look into in the future? But, then Aranta made an intelligent observation. "Yes... they do not make all the same sound. Lets start with that. I'll write these down here, on this piece of paper before the light goes out. Alright?" Ferrin picked up his box of writing tools and paced a piece of paper over the ground carefully. He then took a few stones to keep it in place and Ferrin took out his quill and an ink jar.

He started writing down the alphabet. From A-Z. All in legible and large, but small enough writing, so it all could fit on the paper. Ferrin finished, and blown on the ink to dry it out as quick as it could. He had taken off the stones and placed them back where he had gotten them from the dirt. Rolled up the scroll, and handed it to Aranta. "Here, just keep practicing these letters. Remember each sound. It's important. Good luck on your hunting."As he spoke, Ferrin had gathered his things and nodded once to Aranta and headed home.

"With a heart of steel, I raise my blade in combat. The only thoughts I have in my mind is whether I'd return home to my family. I am a soldier, and will fight for love and peace. That is the way of being a Syliran Knight"-Ferrin.
