Notes
I liked the idea behind this thread. I really liked the second part, where they were using the tree for target practice (although I'm doubtful one can realistically get 100' of clear line-of-sight in a riparian woodlot...). More to the point, the second part was definitely played at novice level -- slow, deliberate aiming, not perfect shots. I have to say that the first part was... not so much. Both of these girls are novice hunters, novice in stealth, and novice archers, yet they found game every time they turned around, managed to hit two squirrels in succession despite probable intervening branches and leaves, and one-shot killed a badger. Calling the grouse a lucky shot doesn't carry much weight when one's already hit a squirrel on the first try...
I know the Hunting page doesn't currently have a progression table to reference, but to quote the Skill Guide: If they are a novice, please do not roleplay perfect results and comprehensive knowledge. Instead, roleplay in the way someone who just has beginner knowledge would act, including the occasional mistake or learning curve that is necessary when starting out with new things. Remember that a novice is going to be slow to aim, is going to miss often, is going to startle more prey when tromping around than find ones she has a chance to ambush -- which all affects her success in hunting. Even a competent hunter is going to spend a long time looking for prey and return empty-handed often; just as it's the job of the hunter to take prey, it's the job of the prey to not get killed, and on average they're pretty good at it!
Accordingly, I'm not awarding any of the kills from this thread. I did read the comments about playing to skill level, so I know you are thinking about it, and as I said, you both did quite well in the second half; just remember to apply the same principles to hunts!
