Adder Rayne

* Physical Information

o Mixed blood (Human and Dhani)
o Spring 476 AV 34 years old (appears far younger ~25)
o Male

* Physical Description
Eyes: Golden-ochre irises with semi-vertical pupils.

Hair: Dark brown hair, shortly kept. A well trimmed short beard.

Built: Just short of 6’1''. A muscular built though not ‘buff’. He has an athletic posture and well chiseled torso. Adder is handsome, in the way hybrids are.

Other: Dry skin because of really small scalelike structure, likes warm surroundings. Larger scales in different colours can be found on his shoulders (dark bordeaux red and black), knees, knuckles, forearms, elbows and along his spine. Additionally when his skin is wet it seems to shine. Adder’s canines are thinner and longer than those of a normal person, though they are not easily noticed.


* Character Concept (Optional But Recommended)

o Personality:
Rayne is different, and he knows it. At first it made him uneasy but now he uses his alien appearance to his advantage by intimidation or seduction. Seeing as he never met any Dhani, he is at a loss of a certain part of his identity. He inherited his mother’s creative side and likes to read and learn. From his unknown father he inherited his darker side; manipulative, vengeful and easily angered. He sometimes finds himself thinking about death and violence, which he tries to avoid. Adder is troubled with himself and doesn’t know his place in the world. Therefore he has begun carving it out.
Years of listening in Sunberth and hanging out in taverns and inns have made him a gifted listener and speaker. Though rather honourable, Adder likes to manipulate others through intimidation, seduction or coercion.
He's often a contradictory person and an intrigant.

o Ethics
Respect others if they respect you. Never judge someone too soon. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Pragmatism. Religion is opium for the masses. Survival of the fittest. By any means necessary.

o Likes
Reading and writing. Conversing. Women. The ambiance of an inn. Riding. Soldier’s life. Miza’s.

o Dislikes
Magic as a whole: he finds it strange and scary. The Syliran Knights: he believes them misguided fools and religious fanatics. Religion.


* Character History (Optional But Recommended)

Rayne was born in the lawless town of Sunberth to a whore. Great was her surprise when she saw her son was a hybrid! Who would have guessed the Dhani she had served would be the one to impregnate her?

He grew up in the brothel his mother worked in, serving customers downstairs and cleaning the establishment. Sunberth is a town where children grow up fast or perish. Rayne was a survivor and learned how to use his strength and speaking talent to his advantage. One of the unsavory patrons took him under his wing, much to the dismay of his mother.

Thus, at the age of twelve he began to hang out with a local crime gang consisting of orphans who taught him how to survive on the streets of Sunberth. The most important thing he learned during his time with them was fighting with knives and short swords. Though not more than an errand boy at first, Adder rose through the criminal hierarchy when getting older. He engaged in politics with other youth gangs and learned how to negotiate terms and territorial disputes.

At the age of eighteen he left the gang and bought a personal biodag, also known as a dirk. Most of the sailors in Sunberth’s harbor used the blade and it was easy to come by. With it he sold his services to crime lords or businesses who needed a bouncer or ‘muscle’.

In 506 AV, Adder Rayne lost his mother to an unknown disease. Feeling lonely and abandoned he became bitter and felt the need to leave Sunberth. With the money he’d gathered he bought some basic supplies, light armour and joined a band of mercenaries and slavers.

Life with the hired blades was brutal but exciting. Bors, the band’s leader, taught Adder most of the things he knew, hoping the ambitious youngster would one day take over. That all changed when Bors’s company was ambushed, resulting in the death of most of the members. Only five survived, among whom, Adder Rayne. They returned to Sunberth where they eventually split up, pursuing their own goals and agenda’s.
Ever since, Rayne has taken to being a bounty hunter, mercenary or slaver, depending on the needs of potential employers. Most importantly, Adder likes his independence. He does not own a horse but instead likes to use those of his employers.
