The following posts reflect the NPCs found in Syka. Currently the NPCs are very sparse since the city is underpopulated and so small it can barely be called a settlement. More will move in as time passes and more businesses open up.

The Founding Triad

The Founders are all three of them very approachable and willing to talk with PCs for all kinds of reasons. They are candid, honest, and forthright. Mathias has an open deck policy and anyone can come fish at his place of an evening and share a drink and a story. He also has an extensive library that can be borrowed from.

Randal is the resident building expert. He built most of the main buildings in Syka before Standing Tall took over operations and allowed Randal to retire to his current surf shop business. He is always willing to look at building plans and make Syka-friendly suggestions as well.

James is a gatherer of sorts. He sees lost souls and has a knack for gathering them close and making them feel welcome and cherished. He values family and has an instinct for introducing souls to one another that will fit together well as companions. Many friendships in Syka have blossomed because James suggested people do things together or even simply meet up for a drink.

There are several other unofficial leaders. Stu, the owner of the Tidepool Bar, is one of those leaders. There are also others, both NPC and PCs. In addition, Syka calls itself home for several Gods that appear in the guise of visitors or guests of the three Founders. Those 'guests' are not usable as NPCs for obvious reasons.

Without question the leader of the ill-fated expedition that tried to get the pathway to Syka open years ago, Mathias didn't give up until he succeeded with a smaller group and a new ship. Mathias grew up in Zeltiva, was educated at the University, and joined the sailors guild when he decided the academic life wasn't for him. Years later in his pursuit of knowledge, he came across Xhyvas and impressed him becoming instrumental in getting the God up to date on what had happened in history since he went underground. Today Mathias is the only known priest of Xhyvas.

 
Captain James Chaliva

Captain of the clipper Veronica, named for his lost daughter, James Chalvia has been sailing most of his life. Part Svefra, he has the distinct blue eyes of his people though he was raised at sea and cannot really say he's from anywhere. James worked his way up through the Merchant ranks and is probably one of the most well traveled men on Mizahar. Syka is his retirement project because in all his years of travel, he's finally feeling the urge to settle down. He makes quick trips across the Suvan to Riverfall each season.

Randal accompanied Mathias and Captain James on their second Syka expedition. He was along as an animal expert, tracker, and handler. His skills at carpentry proved invaluable as it was he himself who started the six rentals to visitors and new residents to Syka. He found it a fruitful way to make trade coin to fund Captain James' occasional trips to Riverfall to resupply.

NPCs in Syka are generally friendly and approachable unless otherwise noted in their descriptions. Some NPCs have secrets and keep them close. They will generally treat you as you treat them and will be very forthcoming with common knowledge like Wilderness Survival, Food Preservation/Acquisition, Weapons, etc. Generally, if its knowledge that will keep a PC alive, they will gladly share it.

Not all NPCs will teach you everything they know. You need to build a relationship with them and become IC friends. This might happen immediately or more accurately over time. Magic can be taught with permission via a Moderator and with an existing relationship. That relationship must be a positive one. :)

 
Indigo

Indigo was living in the region when The Founding Triad appeared and staked their claim. She proved to be an invaluable resource on local flora and fauna. Having never been accepted by either of her cultures, Indigo lived outside the bounds of both. With her local lore, however, the three new arrivals were able to thrive. Indigo comes and goes as she pleases, disappearing for weeks at a time into the deep jungle. She does however tend to note Syka as her home.

 
Uta Lavin

Uta has always been an explorer, even from her early childhood. She was never happy in the fortress city of Sylira, so when opportunities arose, she set out and began learning the trade of being a naturalist. She loves identifying, cataloging, and typing plants in new areas. She's been in Syka since the small settlement was founded. Spending hours in the jungle, Uta collects specimens, identifies or names them, then preserves them for study. She keeps most of her collection in a nearby cave that is away from the damp of the stream she lives over.

Uta is easily the leading expert in plant life in Syka. She's always willing to take people out into the wilds to explore with her and is glad to take on students in order to pass on what she has learned.
 
Juli Chaliva

Juli is an uncommonly independent soul. She followed her father across the Suvan to help him in Syka having decided her life in Riverfall wasn't anything she wanted to maintain. She's found that she loves working in the Mercantile and is an avid swimmer. The sea calls to her and she is often found in the water in her free time.

Very little is known about Veronica except for the fact that she is thought to be James' deceased daughter. When the ship The Veronica is anchored offshore, the ghost is seen roaming Syka. When the ship departs it seems the ghost tends to go with her.

Sardine is an unusual little kitten. He's evidently a color point Sabertooth Tiger. And unlike other ghosts, he can remain a kitten or grow to his full adult size and use that to intimidate folks that threaten or make Veronica unhappy.

"Stu" is an easy-going guy who really does incorporate all the best aspects of summer. He's a social butterfly that tends to start things such as group outings, head party plans, and causes impromptu beach parties with singing and dancing. Jansen and Kalum were recruited to Syka by Mathias to act as a healer for the time being. They needed a vacation and a way out of their life from Riverfall after their Nakivak had committed suicide just before the birth of their child. Tragedy has tended to follow both men, and they are hoping to 'start over' in Syka or at least have a long extended vacation there away from their duties and family in Riverfall. Jansen and Kalum have extensive experience in medicine working at the healing center in Riverfall.

Rainmere was born among the Svefra but didn't stay there long. Born with an Ivak mark and soon garnering the attention of Akvin in her early youth, the girl began to wander the world learning new cultures. Rainmere is fearless, bold, and loves to dance. Since she dances, Rainmere has also learned to work on her own costumes. Thus she's turned out to be a decent seamstress as well. Rainmere will teach folks willingly and often dances just for the joy. Since coming to Syka, Rainmere is usually found at any beachside event Syka holds soliciting tips and dancing her heart out. Often she gets others to join in. Secretly she wants to start a Triad in Syka if she can get other Ivak followers to join her.

Artik is, in a nutshell, a slacker drunk. He is not good with responsibility nor day to day labor agreements. His idea of a good time is lounging around on the beach and watching to make sure Syna tracks through the sky appropriately. He fancies himself a connoisseur of all things alcoholic. Not ambitious enough to brew himself, Artik is glad to sample or 'test' any and all batches that others brew though and give his honest opinion of how fast it will make him drunk. Artik likes being drunk. He likes running a forge drunk too. He even adores teaching drunk.

And while he wants more than anything to stay in Syka, the Founders struggled to figure out a way to place him into the settlement's society and came up with guardianship of the Community Forage where he has no obligation to make things, just to maintain the forge and lend a hand if someone needs help running it. He orders all the supplies for the forge and keeps firewood well-stocked, but other than that he spends his days lounging on the beach or a hammock well within sight of the forge and mooching off anything that happens to be cooked in the communal kitchen.

Living on his Casinor, Artik keeps it moored off Swing Beach so he's easy to find if he is not in the vicinity of The Communal Forge.

One should note he's not always the most pleasant person when sober. However, if one gets a drink or two into Artik, the man becomes anyone's best friend... especially if she's pretty.

She came to Syka to find a new life. Escaping the persecution of her people worldwide with the disappearance of Morwen, Graclin hides in plain sight keeping her hair dyed and her emotions in check. She passes for simple human by staying in the shadows and developing her foraging skills which she uses to assist the Settlement. She keeps her contacts with everyone to a minimal, and prays daily that Morwen will return.

In his early twenties, Duncan Malstrom fell victim to an accident that left him blinded. A blind svefra is normally a dead Svefra, but he was fortunate enough to fall in with the James Chaliva who found his knack of finding water and getting about even without his vision useful. His knowledge of sailing and navigation were all but useless, so when the expedition landed on Syka and started community building, Duncan found his new calling when he discovered a series of small fresh waterfalls near the heart of the settlement and started forming them into a large pool and a warmer soaking pool that the water could be circulated through - clean in, dirty out - and thus keep the settlement clean without the inconvenience of salt which they had to deal with bathing in the sea.

Duncan has his own dwelling in a cave-like structure near the base of the pools. It's a humble abode, but neatly kept. In his spare time he is teaching himself to surf and navigate the new little city without the aid of a companion. Duncan is normally a friendly soul, but he does not welcome questions about his blindness.

Hardened beyond anything most his age should be able to claim, Buraga is, above all else, a warrior. However, people should not mistake his hardness for malice. In his youth he was embraced by the kindness of Priskil. Born and raised in Denval, he was child expected to someday become a valuable member of the Denvali militia. It wasn't long, though, before that expectation was proven to be true. He rose to up to become a respected member within the Denval Chapterhouse of the Order of Radiance.

Even since the Djed storm of 512, Buraga had lost all real purpose in life. He remained a hopeful man. But after losing all of his family, his home, and most of his friends. He had nothing to devote his time to other than Radiance.

Buraga's pride would not allow him to settle in Zeltiva as a refugee. He wandered the world until he learned of Syka. Since every man in a position of power needs a good right arm for security; and Buraga's certainly packs one heck of a punch. That was why he went to James Chaliva with two idea in mind, the first was to help build up settlement defenses. And the second was to start a new Chapterhouse for the Order of Radiance.

Tony came along to the Syka settlement late in the game. Some of the original settlers sent plant samples to back to Riverfall which got passed around from botanist and gardener and anyone who had interest. The Isuas sample reached Tony's hands and he traced it back to its origins. Tony was at the forefront of the Antiquities Society's research on ancient textiles. When he saw the bloom he immediately recognized the material and wanted to see the source. Once he saw the grove of Isuas Trees, he knew this was it.

He's been carefully restoring the grove since, cultivating it and working the fluff from the Isuas Blooms into a workable substance, much like cotton only lighter and stronger and most importantly more able to hold a vibrant dye.
 
Dawn Swiftwater

Dawn is considered an up and coming fashion designer in Riverfall. Her career there, however, was cut short when she met Tony Swiftwater and was persuaded to move from Riverfall to Syka and marry him. She's since opened Tropical Fever Fashions and sells fabric and clothing to residents and tourists alike.

Dawn was born Dawn Casalli. Her entire family is well known for their weaving and dying. While she knows these skills, she's moved away from the trade to work on clothing exclusively as her business. She still dyes her own fabrics and weaves her own cloth when it suits her, but she'd rather be wielding a sewing needle than a dye vat paddle. Dawn has a big family in Riverfall and they visit Syka often.

Nesra hitched a ride with a Svefra Pod to Syka as soon as she heard they were taking settlers. Extremely gifted in ceramics, Nesra hoped her skills would be appreciated in Syka where they were not in Syliras. Having escaped a bad family situation and a worse indenturement, Nesra is in essence hiding out in Syka working her craft while trying to develop a style that is unique enough no one from 'back home' would recognize her goods if Syka exports her work.

Consequently, she doesn't talk about her life. She doesn't even use her real name. Nesra is an assumed name from a very old story. She lives cheaply often hanging out in The Syka Commons, sleeping in a guest quarters, and utilizing the Communal Kitchens to cook when she isn't gifted food. In return, she produces many many pieces of pottery from the Mercantile and collects and restocks the clay in the clay shed.

Lars was born and raised in Riverfall among the Akalak. He always had an aptitude for woodworking and mechanics. Eager to run his own business, being one of five brothers - the youngest in fact - he had no hope of accomplishing that in his own families' sawmill, Lars jumped at the chance to migrate to Syka with a small specialty mill his family sold to the Founders of the settlement there to both sets it up and begin running it until someone could take it over. Once in Syka however, he immediately decided to stay.

Lars is unique in that he immediately upon hitting the land vanished into the jungle and returned with a small herd of Ashta, among which were two bulls and six breeding females along with two calves. These animals he cares for, uses to clear space for Syka businesses and maintains to log the jungle in a selective careful manner to provide wood for his mill.

Zethas can't remember a time he didn't live in Cheenga or guard the valley that was once called Pavena. Even thorough The Valterrian and the coming of the sea where his towers rose and fell abruptly all in one day, he has existed. With Pavena's ruins thrust up above Stair Step Falls and the sea washing in, he rode out the chaos. Once, the Towers overlooked the river Pavena was built along.

No more.

The entire ruins of the settlement ended up at a higher elevation some distance from Cheenga's location. Cheenga now only overlooks vast forest and in the distance the Suvan Sea. Zethas doesn't mind. He still takes flights over the area and has slowly and carefully watched the growth of the settlement along the coast.

Shu'uhl has always lived in and around Jellyfish Lake. He was crafted by Myrna and tasked to protect the lake from all intruders and the secrets that it holds. Shu'uhl has not aged since he reached his maturity and has diligently kept to his job through the ages, even through the Valterrian when the lake and its precious denizens were almost destroyed. It was only through his efforts that the lake survived and the jelly's were altered to survive the influx of saltwater. Shu'uhl was never denied an education and since the lab at Jellyfish Lake was incredibly important to Myrna's work, he has maintained its purpose and kept his studies ongoing to pass the time.

He single handedly altered the jellys so they would survive in the ages that came in the wake of Ivak's rage. He still caretakes them, swimming among them and day by day keeping the beauty and specialness of them thriving.

One day the remains of what seemed to be a pirate ship washed up on the shores of Syka and amongst those remains was a single live, colorful, chicken, seemingly the only survivor of the wreck. It turned out that the chicken was actually a green junglefowl and a kelvic, Ken.

Since his arrival in Syka, Ken has proven himself to be an asset to the settlement, fancying himself somewhat of a hero, he quickly found his place amongst the rangers. He is extremely brave and is always willing help, especially when it comes to heading out into the jungle to find lost settlers, having had a hand in the locating and rescuing of the majority of Sykans who’d ventured further than they could handle.

Despite all his heroic qualities, his vice seems to be women, professing his love to any that catch his eye but never committing to one. He claims to be ‘mostly’ a vegetarian, but will never say no to snake meat.

Brosh is a quiet, thoughtful male who speaks with respect to all but does not seek out the company of others. He was born in the Spires and like most Jamoura he feels deep respect for the natural world around him and the goddess who watches over it. Growing up, Brosh spent the majority of his time exploring the Talderan forests and learning how the web of life connected together. When he came to adulthood Caiyha offered him the opportunity to do her work and gave him her mark, sending him to Falyndar to look after the jungles there. He settled in the Maw and the goddess granted him the Arbor to look after as he set about the endless task of bringing back balance to nature around the ancient ruins.

Shoal is a typical, carefree Svefra. He serves as the main shipbuilder for his small Pod, repairing the boats and adding pieces here and there as needed. He has a wicked sense of humor and loves a good joke, but he also possesses a more serious side for when the situation calls for one. When he isn’t working on the ships, Shoal is usually cooking something up ready for one of the numerous and frequent parties that the Svefra are so well known for.

Sawtooth has been known by a lot of names in her life, but the one she holds dearest is the one she's stuck too. One of the first creations of Markus Kelvic, Sawtooth was gifted with immortality for her services to Myra after Markus made Sawtooth a present to his beloved sister. Sawtooth was created before the Alizran Team abandoned its use of reptiles as Kelvics. She's always resented the fact that they gave up on her coldblooded kind because they do wonderfully well in the sweltering heat of the tropics. Sawtooth patrols the Syka River as its guardian and Makutsi's Priestess. She also maintains the swinging bridge and can often be found in and around it keeping an eye on who uses it.

And just sometimes.... only sometimes.... does she demand tribute to those who cross its rope expanse.

Xander has reached the age where he is looking for a place to settle in. In recent years, his heart has been giving him issues and he's been stuck in cold dry climates for the winter which has made him miserable. Leading a life of adventure has left him with many old injuries that act out with weather changes and puts him in serious discomfort. So when Rhaus approached him about traveling to Syka to represent him, Xander jumped at the chance. In Syka, he's looking for a little more permanent situation, a student or ten to bring in some income, and people to appreciate his music.

An'un Dui is a Wind Reach born Inarta who left to wander the wilderness as she was always had an adventurous and curious heart. She decided to wander the wilds of Kalea, Taldera and Falyndar for adventure and exploration while she lived in Wind Reach and eventually got skilled enough she didn’t need civilization at all. She has befriended a number of people in these domains and regularly trades with them for money in exchange for pelts, resources she collects from the wilderness, and stories she has collected. She uses this money on trinkets and baubles made by people like the Inarta and the Vantha. She can't resist a beautifully crafted ornament to adorn her antlers or hair. Ever an animal lover, one of the primary people she interacted with was the Vantha of the Frostfawn hold who gave her the very antlers she so cherishes.

Because of her long-standing friendship with the Vantha, she was utterly appalled at the killing of the very people she once sat around hearth fires and shared stories with. She has recently come to Syka after caring for one of the Vantha she rescued from the horrors of that winter of 516 A.V. She now resides in one of Syka's bungalows and when she isn't traversing the dangerous wilds, which she can be out for days at a time, she offers her services as a wilderness guide to the people of Syka. After all, the jungle can be treacherous.

Tegan is following in his Father's footsteps. He is the third son of Tagath Darsul, a Shroud family of some note in and around Ravok. Though not royalty by any means, the Darsul family has a strong commitment to Vayt's cause and follows the Shrouds beliefs strictly, and are as close to nobility as Vayts followers enjoy. Tagath has sent his sons out in the world because keeping them close is always dangerous for any city besides Ravok proper. Like his father before him, Tegan believes in the cause, and though hesitant to come to Syka due to its newness in the world, he is embracing his orders and staying on mission. He will stay a season, let his Blight do its work, then depart. While he is here in Syka, he is more than willing to enjoy himself with the locals and explore collecting poisons and venom as is his main work outside of being The Shroud.

Tall and thin, this 5'7" has dark hair, green eyes, and could be considered beautiful. Taken by her grandfather from her parents at birth, Kami was marked at an early age by Rak'keli because of her overly-gifted talent of healing and medicine. She did not follow in the footsteps of most of the Arcadius bloodline, though the occasional healer outliers had occurred previously. Enraging her grandfather by not inheriting the Arcadius djed pool, Kami was often loaned out to various high-ranking people in Florentin's operation once she was trained as a full fledged healer. Her grandfather let whomever she was on loan to treat her as they wished and in exchange often grilled the girl on their doings and loyalties. He usually eventually reclaimed her, though mostly when he had a new 'duty' for her to attend too.

He felt called to teach others in an atmosphere where magic was more accepted and the mind and body connection could be taught and recognized.

Nora was born in the heart of The Suvan during a storm. Her life was a whirlwind after that, moving from one place to another, one pod to another, not quite ever fitting in. She, in time, rather than becoming a pod healer, started learning the skills needed to heal the pod's tavan when they got into scrapes and scuffs. Nora held a huge love of life, nature, and medicine. But her rejection of becoming a physical doctor really hurt her and she was often pushed out of this pod or that pod due to conflicts in personality. Nora simply gets along better with animals than people.

Eventually, when the rumors of Syka's speaking birds reached her, she set course for Syka and settled in to join the people there, finding she got along with them far better than she ever had any of her Svefra Pod mates.

Miranda fell into Syka with the onset of the anniversary of The Valterrian in 522. While the settlement was dealing with its individual curses, Miranda was trying to figure out what happened to her and survive. She built a nice little shelter next to the cove and quickly learned that the denizens of the Sea in this area provide ample companionship and entertainment to make her long lonely days a bit fuller.

Since Miranda is one of Leth's Ethaefal, she has a subtle sheen of moon tint along their opalescent skin pale skin at night. Her eyes are large with violet irises. In the Winter, her hair is white while her horns are violet. In the Fall, her hair changes to pale gold and her horns are almost identical in color. In the spring, her hair turns lavender and her horns take on a pearly white coloring. In summer, her hair darkens to black and her horns turn a bright jungle green.

Her mortal seeming during the day is a tall dark-skinned woman with long black hair and deep topaz eyes. Her hair is usually braided in cornrows. She often adorns it with shells and has seashells braided into it. Miranda is fit and often seen swimming with the turtles she so loves.

Deeply devote of Leth, Miranda has constructed a shrine to him on the beach in this location.

This Eth of Leth discovered Syka's existence a bit later in the season of Spring 522, towards its third quarter, and became one of its citizens at that point. Miranda can provide a knowledgeable font of information for the ways of Leth, sea turtles, and other marginal sea and jungle life.

Murdered in 522 by a priest of Rhysol, Michaela Hess was a former headmistress from one of Sylira's basic schools for children. She got tired of the throngs in Syliras and wanted to get out and enjoy what was left of her life. Michaela longed to be inspired to pursue her art, namely her drawing, painting and poetry. She longed to see the other side of the world, so it wasn't a hard decision for her to resign her position, pack up her life, and move with her tabby cat to Syka to watch over the children the Sykan's were opening their settlement too.

She was survived by said tabby cat that inhabits the Children's Pavilion and goes by the name of Patches.

Lily was not pleased and is lurking around the settlement trying to figure out what happened to her sister. She's always been interested in death, dying, and the afterlife. Fascinated with death, Lily has made a living as a Taxidermist and Maladictor while practicing her first love - spiritism - on the side.

Like everything that happens in Syka, Nolan wandered into the scene just after the Fish Ponds were discovered. He found a place to live, a type of fish to study, fish for, and eat... and moved into the area. Not much is known about his background, though the Founders claim they know the full extent.

He has a Mark of Sylir which has hinted to people that he has a background in being a Syliran Knight, though he holds tight to his privacy and when not found at the Fish Pond can often be found at Mathias' deck. He speaks slowly, has a great deal of wisdom, and a very slow even temper.

Jaelis grew up the child of The Svefra under the glorious light of Leth off the tropical shores of Falyndar. He sought his place in the world, lost and wandering, as soon as he was old enough to leave his non-Kelvic parents and their pod. He grew fast, taught by his father and mother, and then by life itself. He learned how to survive in the jungle, hunt, track, and use weapons humans use.

Jaelis is drawn to other birds, searching for the wild rarity of his own kind. His Moon Eagle form is fiercely protective and watchful. Like all of his kind, he has excellent night vision and has a glowing quality to his plumage and a luminous quality to his pale human skin. Frequently sought out by those wishing to find and export the exotic, Jaelis avoids strangers in Falyndar, but still has an incredible need to seek out the company of humans, driven as all Kelvics are, to find a bondmate.

Captured at the very end of the Summer in 522 by foreign invaders in the jungle, the Moon Eagle was released by a stranger who snuck into the invader's camp and set prisoners free. Stalking that same stranger, Jaelis discovered Syka in the Fall of 522.

The failure to gain a guardian during his Searching as a teenager haunts Jehu into his adult life. His family and tribe looked upon him differently, some with pity, some with suspicion. Finally, urged by the word he received from Eywaat during his Searching, Jehu departed, into the desert and beyond, to find answers, eventually finding himself in Syka.

Known to Syka as the stoic desert man, Jehu values action and is always happy to assist where he can, whether it be with ranger duties or survival training... He is fiercely loyal and protective of those he calls friends and threatening them is one of the few ways to make him lose his temper.

He hopes to one day find his purpose and earn his Guardian.

Nyle has always held a high-ranking position in the Kois Clan. He's been an advisor to Florentine Aradicus - Leader of the Kois Clan, who also allowed him to marry Kamrae Aradicus Kois. They have no children. Nyle is the fraternal twin of Lira Solarian Kois - one of the rare female Kelvics of the Kois Clan. Lira takes the shape of a golden eagle.

Nyle is a reserved man who holds a lot of his thoughts and feelings inside. Inherently a decent person, he has a lot of skills to bring to the table in the fact that he was blessed abundantly with a deep-abiding djedpool (like most of the Kois Clan) and has trained extensively in combat.

In the Fall of 522, he partook in a plot by Florentine Arcadius - whose body houses an ancient evil entity known as Sran'Tuka - in order to protect what remained of his shattered clan. He assisted in the confinement of his wife's twin sister - Tazrae - and at Aradicus' request - got her with child. Since the captive born twins and escaped the same day as her delivery, Nyle rescued his newborn son and parted ways with his clan. He's been searching for the child's mother and his own lost wife. His wife, often sent on a mission by Aradicus, had been 'lost' on an expedition to Falyndar.

This gave Nyle a place to start looking... Falyndar. And when he heard about the new Settlement there, he headed in that direction with his son and a hired wetnurse. Coming to Syka in the Summer of 523 finally, he found not only his lost wife, her twin sister, and his lost infant daughter. It was a strange reunion, and an awkward one with a new oddly structured family.

Lira was born a twin, younger by two minutes, and inferior in so many ways for being female and then growing faster and larger than her brother. It was evident from a very early age that the pair were not the same, even though they were born of the same mother on the same day. Lira was the result of a long recessive Kelvic gene that cropped up in her Solarian bloodline. Nyle, free of the Kelvic curse, enjoyed the comfort of growing to maturity under the loving protection of a younger sister that aged at twice his rate.

Fortunately for both children, a high-level mage was able to slow Lira's aging to almost nothing through the use of an artifact called Alizarin's Regalia. Nearly ageless, Lira has halted her growth physically around age 22, though her brother continues to age and is expected to die long before her if they both don't fall into an accident before time's bite takes them from the world.

Lira is overly protective of Nyle and they enjoy a good relationship between the two. They are bonded, much like any twins, though Nyle enjoys a Kelvic bond with Lira that keeps the pair together. When Nyle married Kamara, that protectiveness and comradery opened to include the Kois Grandauther as well.

Zarisha is a story of tragedy. Purchased at auction by a Solarian Kois, the man then married Zarisha and got her with child when she was 16. Her husband was slain by Sran'Tuka in an act of defiance, leaving Zarisha a widow before her first children were born. Zarisha is small and delicate so when she gave birth to a very large little boy shortly before Nyle's children were born, there were complications. The infant died, and Zarisha was left basically on her own until Nyle and Lira took her in. She was thus able to act as a wet nurse and babysitter for Nyle when Kaysen came along.

Zarisha was originally from Wind Reach, but traveled from her home to go out in the world to shed her Dek status. She had no idea she'd fall prey to slavers and end up in an Eyktol slave market. She had no particular fondness for her husband, but he did treat her kindly for the most part. For a girl from a world of starvation, the fact that he allowed her to eat and there was always abundant food was good enough for her to be satisfied with her current situation.

When Nyle decided to look for his lost wife and the mother of his children, Zarisha came with him to care for little Kaysen.

Brego is one of Captain James’s sailors aboard the Veronica. While not all the crew know exactly what pushed him to leave the Sea of Grass. Rumor has it was due to a very messy wedding situation. But he generaly keeps his personal life more secret to the rest of the crew. Said crew which he works on, when he signed onto his first ship it was solely as a strong sailor willing to move cargo and sails.

Like most he was drawn to Syka while looking for a place to settle down. He talks loudly about having dreams of starting a family. As well as often breaking into song and story. Telling sailors on a moon lit night the variouis myths of glassbeaks from the plains. He can often be found making the trip to and from Riverfall with the rest of the crew of the Veronica.

Brego was awarded his wind marks and will talk openly about them if asked, though tells little, but states it is a constant source of shame for him if pushed by a close confidant. It does however provide a touchstone back to his home.

Abbas grew up as if in a dream. The dream was strength, security, peace, and living among one of the most affluent and thriving tribes of the Benshira. He had the good fortune to be born to the Timari, some of the most renowned horse breeders in the world. His families horses were some of the best desertbred known to Mizahar. He learned the art of bloodlines, pairings, and training at the side of multiple generations of Timari Kois. It was his branch of the Kois that formed one of the cornerstones of the tribe. Horses in the desert equaled wealth and the ability to move fast, far, and smoothly.

Abbas grew to adulthood and then became one of the tribal leaders ruling his particular branch. He was tried and tested on the battlefield and a council member who advised Florentin Arcadius, the ruler of the Kois.

In the later years, their branch fell to disfavor as the Leadership of the Kois was compromised by an ancient foe who latched on to Florentin's form and crawled inside him like a parasite. Shortly thereafter, Sran’tuka began pulling the puppet strings of the entire Benshira clan. Standing up against the compromised leadership earned most of the Timari exile from not only Gold Lake but Eyktol itself. Aging, and falling into hard times, the Addas and his wife Amira fled Eyktol. And upon their exodus from Eyktol, they fell prey to slavers.

They ended up in the markets of The Outpost via Syliras' Dovecote.

Later, purchased by a Sykan Resident, Abbas, his wife Amira, and his son Nasir as a family unit were arranged to be delivered to Captain James of the Veronica where he would take them to Syka and too their freedom. Many of his children and grandchildren are still missing.

Abbas was a breeder of fine horses and a high caliber warrior, so they never lacked in perstige or for coin.

In the later years, their branch fell to disfavor as the Leadership of the Kois was compromised. Standing up against the compromised leadership earned them exile from not only Gold Lake but Eyktol itself. Aging, falling into hard times, the couple fled Eyktol and upon their exodus from Eyktol fell prey to slavers.

They ended up in the markets of The Outpost via Syliras' Dovecote.

Later, purchased by a Sykan Resident, Amira, her husband Abbas, and her son Nasir as a family unit were arranged to be delivered to Captain James of the Veronica where he would take them to Syka and too their freedom. Many of her children and grandchildren are still missing.

Nasir was born with a mark of Zulrav on the back of his neck. Later, another appeared in his early teens. His father always said he was born among the horses with a storm in his heart and the blood of the Timari Kois flowing through his blood. He took an early interest in meteorology, the sky, and how weather behaved.

Though he followed neatly in his father's footsteps, Nasir also forged his own pathway in many ways. He learned the family business of breeding and raising horses. He became an excellent trainer and warrior among his people. One need not have the finest horses in the desert unless one can defend them.

Nasir enjoyed many years thriving among his people. He married young, often, and sired multiple children from numerous wives in his early twenties. As he approached his thirties, his luck changed. As the situation with the Kois became increasingly dangerous for the tribesman, Nasir lost wife after wife and multiple children to misfortune that seemed somewhat staged in order to get his family to fall in line.

But first, he went to rescue his parents. The move cost him his freedom and he ended up enslaved along side them. The whole of the Timari lost their lives, and the three sole survivors ended up in the markets of The Outpost via Syliras' Dovecote.

Later, purchased by a Sykan Resident, Nasir, along with his parents Abbas and Amira, as a family unit were arranged to be delivered to Captain James of the Veronica where he would take them to Syka and to their freedom. Many of his siblings and their children are still missing.

The Verusk

The Verusk are a hybrid race of Humans x Velispar that came through the World Gate in The Spring of 518. They are long lived - 800-1000 years, though most of the NPC Verusks in Syka are far younger. Verusk can be player characters by special permission. None of these NPCs will share pre-Valterrian knowledge or off-world knowledge with PCs unless you have DS permission.

They live outside of the Settlement in various homes throughout The Maw near or encircling the World Gate and further up the coast. They will visit Syka periodically ... and PCs can make friends with these individuals. Before they will do any teaching of unusual skills such as magic, PCs must establish a relationship with them.

Check with Gossamer for approval to use one of these NPCs in a specific thread for training.

Additional Info: Seraya is like a storm: quick-tempered, unpredictable, and impenetrable. She carries herself with grace and surety, and with the confidence of someone who is used to holding her own in a fight. Generally, however, Seraya comes across as surly and impatient. Her long years have granted her some ability to maintain her calm, and she will follow along when ordered to do something, but she has no patience for ridiculous instructions and will gladly say so. She has no patience for formalities and bureaucracy, a trait that tends to draw the ire of anyone that outranks her.

She is at her happiest when by herself in quiet places, far away from anyone else including those of her own kind. When she does choose to seek out the company of others, she prefers likeminded individuals: that is, people who would be interested in going down to the tavern for drinks and then trading blows on the beach, or vice versa. A wild child at heart with an adventurous spirit, Seraya revels in the high energy and adrenaline of a good brawl, but that doesn't mean that she goes out looking for trouble. Nowadays, Seraya no longer starts fights, having matured past that tendency. However, if someone did happen to pick a fight with her, or in her vicinity, Seraya will gladly finish it.

Despite her insistence that the only person she cares about is herself, Seraya is fiercely protective of those people that she considers her own, and of the weak and helpless. However, if Seraya has to step in to save you, expect a tongue-lashing. She has no love for incompetence, and is irritated at what she considers weakness - including her own. When angry with herself, Seraya tends to take out that anger (verbally, usually) on whichever convenient target happens to be in the vicinity.

There are rumors that she has a love for music and is quite good at playing the flute. Seraya will vehemently deny any of those rumors.

It's always been said that the strongest of women are the ones that know their own mind. Perhaps that was the true gift that was bestowed upon Talivindra at birth; to know her mind was one filled with artistic inspiration. It was that inspiration which allowed her to prove that even when survival was most important in life, that beauty should never be set needlessly aside, but cultivated among the hardship.

Everything she does is surrounded by artistic grace. She is a woman who amuses herself by singing to herself while she crafts wondrous things from wood or stone to please others. And to the delight or dismay of many, she is generally in support of beautifying or removing any place or thing that she deems ugly.

And despite acting as such, she is in fact not some bubbly person who is all smile and laughs. Her exorbitant artistic interests are just whims that she deems must be met and will get into anyone face if they try to force her on changing her stance on any matter. Once her mind is set to a goal, she will stubbornly take on all people in her path.

Possessed of a deep curiosity about new plants and new places, with a particular focus on orchards and spice-trees, and a mischievous streak a mile wide, Kiveth is not the easiest person to pin down. He can be in turn a prankster, a teller of jokes, a helpful older brother, and a sharp-tongued snarker cutting someone down to size.

He seeks to know, understand, and use every inch of his trees and plants, from the soil that they grow in to the topmost branch, from cooking and preserving the harvest to shaping pruned branches with his knife. As well as plants and trees, he likes to draw people out and bring them to the most perfect form of themselves that they can be. If he sees potential in a person, he will boost them towards reaching it in whatever way he can, but those over-reaching or with over-blown egos will quickly find themselves pruned by a sharp tongue or a sharper blade.

He is constantly on the move, like the leaves his title suggests, and his knives sit lightly on hip and in boot. While he has a series of knife scars slicing across his upper chest, anyone asking about them will be treating to a series of long stories, each more implausible than the last, about how and why he received them. He has cultivated enough patience over many years to remain in the same place for as long as necessary, but even then a finger will drum against his leg or a toe tap in his boot.

Additional Info: Sinaetri is a fairly stoic individual; it is rare to see her smile, and rarer still to see her laugh. Her pale silver gaze can be rather unsettling if turned upon you. Sinaetri is more prone to showing her amusement through small quirks of her brow or with her words, and one can learn to tell her signs after knowing her for some time.

Cool, composed, and with a sharp wit, she is the definition of 'ask first, shoot later'. She values control and calm, and rarely loses her temper. When she is angry, she is often silent about it, and the subject of her wrath won't know any better until it's too late. Sinaetri is patient both in life and in combat, often waiting for others to make the first move and instead taking the time to analyze them and try to guess what they will do.

While her titled is the Dancer, one should not make the mistake of thinking Sinaetri harmless. She is lean and wiry with muscles, and she moves with grace and agility, each movement poised and calculated. She excels in unarmed combat, and uses her speed and acrobatics to gain the upper hand over her opponents rather than brute strength.

Sinaetri values moments where she can find peace and have some time to be introspective; she often meditates, or should she feel like being more productive, she has found that painting provides a very similar mental state for her, particularly when she is copying something she can see. She often paints landscapes because of this.

Additional Info: There are no rules where T'aidell is concerned and her personality as well as career mimic just that. Bizarre is one way to describe her, though she prefers eccentric. She pushes the envelope in her work and is rarely satisfied until extreme measures have taken place. By the look of her, some might be inclined to question if the experiments have been turned upon herself. She is cloaked in mystery and intrigue. Sensitive types best stay clear of the woman as she is quite brutally honest and unforgiving with others.

The verusk is well sought after for her ability to craft materials with seemingly unreal properties. They can be used in, but are not limited to weaving, jewel crafting and perhaps one of the most popular, blacksmithing. She has even been known to work with builders to imbue their equipment with special attributes to make construction easier and more efficient. For example, she could make an alloy light as a feather but still strong and firm. This can be used in the tools construction workers build with (hammers, saws, shovels) so that they do not fatigue as easily and can do more work in a shorter amount of time.

Change is an inevitable part of the world - that is what she lives her life by. She is a true philosopher at heart and makes an effort to understand the universe's enigmas. This quality, among others, is why Harameus gifted her with his gnosis. She does well innovating on a moment's notice if the situation calls for a different approach and can see small details that others cannot. She enjoys a good challenge every now and then and will often make puzzles and riddles just for the fun of it. All her work is highly classified and encrypted so those who wish to steal her secrets will be met with test of intelligence.

Additional Info: Kajun'tar, Kajun for short, is something of an intellectual. From a young age, he has been interested in the study of history and of his ancestors home, Pavena. So fascinated with research, study and more intellectual pursuits, he has allowed little time for much else. He tends to feel awkward in large groups but in one-on-one conversations with those who share his interests, it is hard to keep him quiet.

Although he doesn't fully understand the nuances of interpersonal communication and relationships, he is rather knowledgeable about the cultures of Mizahar...at least as they were in the distant past. His knowledge of ancient Mizaharan cultures is impressive and he uses that information, mistakenly, in his approach to dealing with those living in the present. As the Valterrian changed so much of Mizahar and its peoples, relying on past knowledge opens Kajun up for rather uncomfortable and potentially embarrassing encounters.

Kajun has a love for stones, rocks and jewels. He wears a bracelet adorned with stones from Pre-Valterrian Mizahar passed down to him from him from his ancestors. His interest in geology is second only to his interest in Mizahar's people and history, especially the history of Pavena. Although he has not yet taken up the art of jewelcrafting, his love of gemstones has been recognized by the Goddess, Semele, who has gifted him with her mark. As a result, he has gained a unique perspective on such things and it flavors his perspective on just about everything else in his life. His budding relationship with Semele has allowed him greater insight into his studies due to the countless abilities his connection to earth and gemstones grant him.

He has a fear of heights. Kajun does not do well in higher elevations where he can see just how far up he may be. He is most comfortable being as close to the ground as possible and due to his mark from Semele, especially enjoys the underground. There, surrounded by earth and stone, he is most at ease.

Due to his intellectual pursuits, Kajun has had little to no experience with the opposite sex as far as interpersonal relationships and more intimate social interactions are concerned. While he is comfortable with females who share his interests, when it comes to more romantic encounters, he is the proverbial fish out of water.

Although Kajun is not a practitioner of magic, he has an interest in it if only for its context. He is fully aware that magic is a part of his history and is a driving force in all things. Its role in shaping both his world as well as Mizahar is part of his studies and while he has not yet immersed himself in the manipulation of it, he understands to some extent, its significance and effects.

He comes to Syka with an almost childlike interest in the history of the place. All his life he has dreamed of Pavena and how it is tied to who and what he is. While others of his kind have their own motives, interests and desires, he is focused primarily on learning all he can about Syka, its inhabitants and of the secrets that are buried beneath.

Additional Info: Abanath likes knowing how things work. He’s the type to study door latches, puzzle over the mechanics of a fishing rod, and take apart clocks to see how they’re put together. His curiosity is insatiable, and studies all things that catch his interest with a laser point focus.

His main point of interest is gadgets. He will spend countless hours drawing new designs, then constructing implements for them in order to bring them to life. He will get ideas from pre-valterian ruins then put the information he gathers into practice. With the exception of the mining of actual ores, Abanath is capable of creating almost every component he uses for his creations.

Outside of those moments of intense focus, Abanath is mild mannered, friendly, sociable and easy to get along with. He has been known to run away with a topic that catches his interest, but he’ll usually catch himself before he runs too far with it. He can be a bit naive sometimes, and can be uninformed and disinterested on topics that fall outside his sphere of interest.

Additional Info: A passionate man, especially when it comes to animals and his insects, Relia’ssa, or Rel as he often prefers, has a habit of coming on to strongly when in discussion with others, believing himself to have the right views, whilst also being greatly interested in what others have to say so he can learn from them.

Despite his stubborn passion, Relia’ssa is not a fighter and as such has studied Shielding for most of his life, at first wanting to use it for his own defense in times of need, then realizing its benefits for his personal privacy.

Outside of this, Relia’ssa is a warm man who enjoys being surrounded by both people and animals. He enjoys conversation and listening to others experiences of that which he hasn’t yet experienced for himself, and during these times he lives vicariously through others, imagining himself in their situations and trying to feel what they had felt, though sometimes he will also criticize their choice of actions in these past scenarios, pointing out how they could have acted differently.

He has attempted a variety of different hobbies and trades that would allow him to work with others, and despite enjoying them a lot he found that he was most adept at working with animals and insects, though he still kept his more sociable hobbies too.

Alongside this he enjoys parties and music, and as such taught himself how to play the Gea’Tar so he could entertain fellow partygoers, and as such he will play at any available chance. He has even tried playing his Gea’Tar to insects to see if they seem to enjoy the music.

Additional Info: Zed has been alive only 398 years. Considered young by his people, he is a clear introvert and somewhat of a mastermind when it comes to designing and building items that revolve around storm gem technology. Marked by Zulrav at an early age, Zed almost exclusively follows the Lord of Storms - as his ancestors did before him - who were part of Myrna Kelvic's Pavena team. Zed is truly an air spirit. He likes high places, windy ridges, and storm swept coastlines.

He will carry on a conversation with someone willingly, but usually only if they initiate the interaction. Subtle clues people make to indicate their mood and their entire body language often baffles him. He is far more drawn to 'things'. Zed can often look at a piece of something and just know where it came from and what it was used for. His brain is wired in such a way that it often automatically sketches out for him the rest of the mechanism - always mechanical - as it was when it was whole and not just a part. One would think he was marked with Lykata, but that is not so.

Not being one for a lot of interaction with others, Zed continuously keeps a notebook on his person which he fills with his ideas. He draws from these ideas and is considered one of the leading inventors in his field back where he comes from. He often carries a pack that contains tools with him and tends to fiddle and fuss with things (even if they don't belong to him) until they are improved in efficient in his opinion.

Zed cannot stand to see inefficient mechanisms and mechanical workings. Such things are as torturous to him as actual torture is to others. They will completely and utterly distract him until they are streamlined or repaired by his own hand. This Verusk's strong point is not 'creating' new things. He is not an inventor or gadgeteer by any means unless it comes to storm gem technology. If someone comes to him with an idea (he often lacks having these on his own completely because he is analytical and not creative), he can improve upon them and convert them to 'storm gem powered' items fairly easily. Hence, Zed works best when backing up more creative individuals or repairing and improving already existing technology.

He also loves building and sailing airships powered by similar technology.
