Jellyfish Lake is somewhat of a well kept secret around Syka. Located almost directly on the coast, the residents of the city suspect that Jellyfish Lake is attached to the sea through underground tunnels since the water isn't fresh or salt, but rather a combination of both. It's brackish waters are infested with a unique form of aquatic animal the locals call The Euphoria Jellyfish. These Jellyfish often are so abundant that the lake turns golden like their color.
Early settlers to Syka noted immediately that these jellys are unique in that they do sting human swimmers, often mobbing the invading person to enshroud them. Once enshrouded, the jelly venom gives the swimmer a sense of euphoria so strong that they fail to feel pain and all their troubles melt away. They only seem targeted on humans, human subraces, and kelvics. It has been noted that they ignore other races entirely as well as animals.
Uta, Syka's naturalist, has been fiddling with the jelly venom and has created a serum with it that causes wounds to go numb and for people with severe injuries like broken limbs to experience relief from their chronic pain. So far she's been able to mix the serum into salves, pills, and potions. She's calling the serum Pain Ease to keep the knowledge the serum comes from the jellyfish somewhat of a secret. Uta suspects the jellyfish are not normal. Her theories of their origins range from some kind of divine gift from the Gods to the fact that perhaps the jellyfish were engineered by one of the Kelvics - either Marcus or Myrna Kelvic. Uta is probably one of the only people in Syka that's wandered enough to realize that Pavena was more than just a pre-Valterrian city of no account.
