Season of Winter, Day 15, 510 AV

It was another day, and that meant that Alenias had to eat again. Sometimes she wondered if it would be nicer not to eat, but there were some foods that were really tasty. Not that it really mattered because she had to eat, and so she was wandering around the various stalls near the docks of Ravok to find her morning meal.

After walking the streets for a little time something delicious smelling caught her nose. Following her nose she came upon a stall that held delicious smelling breads that seemed to covered in a sweet glaze. Feeling her mouth water at the thought of eating some of that bread Alenias quietly crept up towards the stall. She waited until the merchant selling the bread was distracted by another customer, and then quickly snatched a loaf of the delicious smelling bread for herself.

Unfortunately the loaf was quite large, and so the merchant noticed it missing quickly. Alenias heard him call out angrily at her and so she ducked her head and started to run as fast as she could through the crowd. She did not want to give up the bread, and she wasn't that worried about the merchant. He would find her hard to catch if he could find her.

Weaving her way through the crowd Alenias caught her foot on something she hadn't noticed, and stumbled headlong into someone. Whoever it was they were more solidly built than Alenias, and she fell to the street a little dazed from the collision. Meanwhile the merchant was angrily approaching at a fast pace.

A bit of luck, good or bad (Dervish)

Postby Dervish on December 30th, 2010, 4:49 pm

Dervish slowly walked through the crowds, hardly passing anyone but blending in reasonably well. On a day like this he enjoyed a busy street, where no-one would notice or care about him, and he could mind his own thoughts and business. Today, The Silver Sliver beckoned with ale and warmth. Dervish hadn't achieved much, but was in a good mood knowing that he had mizas to spare and ale to drink.
The street seemed to buzz with commerce, and noise, too, from bargaining at the nearby stalls, arguements and friendly conversations. Dervish grinned as he saw a yelling merchant - And was then suddenly hit in the chest by a lithe long-haired girl, dressed in rags and carrying a loaf of bread. Dervish stepped back one step surprised, then saw the approaching yelling merchant and smiled faintly, remembering how he had once fought for food and a living in the streets at an even younger age than this girl.
Dervish stepped forward, and the merchant tried to brake, but failed and stumbled into him, taking two steps back and breathing heavily, to catch his breath. He lowered his head slightly, and let his hand slide over the hilt of his one dagger at his side, looking at the merchant with a menacing glare.

"What in Rhysols name do you think you're doing!?"

Dervish half-yelled, and stared at him indignantly, then turned over to Alenias and reached a hand out to her, without taking his eyes away from the merchant.

As the merchant gave a slightly stammered reply to the man Alenias had run into, Alenias herself gazed with some distrust at the man's offered hand. Right now she could probably get away, but she'd loose the bread. The man seemed like he was trying to help her, and was being friendly, but Treanas had told her that it was dangerous to trust others. Except for Treanas of course.

A whiff of the delicious smelling bread made up Alenias' mind, and she carefully reached out and took the man's hand. She kept the bread clutched close to her with her other hand as she glanced at the merchant, who had regained some composure and was demanding that the dark haired man either hand over Alenias to the guards, or pay for the bread himself.

A bit of luck, good or bad (Dervish)

Dervish pulled her up on her feet and smiled faintly, then turned around to the merchant and stepped up, looking down on him and poking him in the chest, as he started speaking in a fast accusing voice.

"You assaulted me, and then ask me to pay you, and 'give' you my cousin!? Have you lost your mind?"

He shoved the man a step backwards, and looked at him angrily. The merchant seemed rattled, but then recovered his poise once more and started speaking in a more calm voice, asking him to pay for the bread his "cousin" had "aquired". Dervish cast a sideways glance, noticing a guard slowly approaching the commotion, then looked quickly at Alenias, shrugged, and handed the merchant 5 cm, figuring whatever little sweet bread she had taken couldn't be worth much more. Ther merchant took the money, and started walking away surprisingly quickly, Dervish looking after him with a threatening glare. Suddenly, he turned his head and looked at Alenias curiously.

"What's your name? I'm Dervish, and I remember what it's like not having any food or rest."

He smiled down at Alenias, his knives, dark eyes and leather armour giving him a dangerous but not threatening appearance.

With the merchant leaving, and Alenias still holding the delicious smelling bread, she gave the man an awestruck look. She certainly hadn't expected him to scare off the merchant, especially after she had run into him. When he spoke and smiled at her she gave him a faint smile of her own. Even with his dangerous appearance what he had just done went a long ways towards calming her.

"I'm Alenias," she replied to his question, tilting her head slightly to the side as she looked up at him with her own nearly black eyes, "Why did you scare the merchant off? You used to be like me and Treanas?"

She was curious about this Dervish now, though not curious enough to keep her from taking a small bite out of the sweet bread as she waited for him to respond.

"Uh... Yeah, I used to be like you.. Who's Treanas?" Dervish looked confused, looking around for a second, and then at Anelias, "I just didn't like him, and I've tried being hunted by guys like him myself once." Dervish chuckled faintly.

"So, where do you live? I was going to The Silver Sliver just now myself.." He murmured, Dervish' voice trailing off. He wondered why he was even talking to her, wasn't like he could help her or anything...
Dervish slowly began walking, moving his hand in an inviting gesture for her to follow next to him.

Alenias' face fell as Dervish asked who Treanas was, "Treanas is my friend, he took care of me and taught me how to get food and shinnies. I haven't seen him for a long time though..." she gave a soft sniff as the faint shimmer of tears appeared in her eyes.

Dervish's question about where she lived quickly chased away her sorrow, and she looked at him with renewed suspicion. No matter how nice he had been, Treanas had told her to never show anyone where they lived because then they might take the treasure they had there, "I live... Somewhere. What's the Silver Sliver?"

Dervish looked at her curiously;"Sorry he's missing. and walked silently for abit, considering whether he was feeling sorry for her or not caring. He smiled at her question and answered"It's just a tavern, it's a nice enough place to get something to drink or eat. I occasionally go there to get a drink."

He stretched slightly, and then continued, feeling more talkative than normal."I shouldn't, though, because the place's gonna end up with all the money I have... " He murmured as more or less of a joke, then pointed to a small tavern next to the canal, with a couple of tables on the outside,"Want something to eat?" Dervish asked, and walked towards the tables.

As Dervish spoke she followed a short ways behind him, taking more small bites out of the bread she held. She didn't normally make a habit of following people around that she bumped into, but Dervish had her curious, and it wasn't like she had much else to do at the moment.

Alenia blinked a couple times at Dervish comment about the Silver Sliver ending up with all of his money, and then tilted her head slightly at him as she asked, "Then why not just take what they leave out?" her voice innocent and devoid of any sense of joking.

The offer of food caught her attention though, and she blinked at Dervish once more, "You'd give me food? Without having to take it? Without having to give shinnies for it?"

Dervish looked at Alenias, wondering how such a naive thief had managed to survive so long in a city like this. He walked over to the nearest table and sat down in a chair, offering her the one across from it. Dervish looked around slowly for a barmaid.

"Hm.. Do you 'take' alot of shinies?" He asked, and contemplated if she could perhaps steal him some, then reconsidered, what if she got caught and he had toal with it -- again.
"Oh, and maybe you can pay me back sometime, I don't know..." Dervish shrugged slightly indifferently, he'd have to get some sort of occupation soon either way..
