Summer 23, 516 - Syliras to Alvadas
Syna dawned brightly that morning as Sayana looked out over the waters of the Suvan Sea. She wasn’t the only one up, hardly. There were sailors here and there, manning the rigging and sails. She recalled her trip with Timothy and Andreas. How it brought about new changes. Not necessarily changes that lasted though. She had no idea where the two boys were now, but they had each other.
Focus dammit.
She had tried for what seemed like all day yesterday to try to conjure the magic of auristics. Trying to stay discrete, she had stayed in her cabin cell, but whether it was the silence, the distractions from outside, or the distinct lack of people, she was unable to achieve the concentration necessary for the magic.
Sayana sat on a folding stool near the bow of the ship gazing out into the expansive sea. The ship rocked, as usual, but it felt like the lilting step of a dancer. There was something calming about it despite the loud gush and smack of the ship against the waves. For the first chime, the Eypharian closed her eyes and simply listened to the sound of the sea and the bustle of sailors on the deck. She slowed her breathing and focused on the inhale, a momentary held breath, and then a long exhale. The wind toss her hair but she simply focused on her breathing, not bothering to pull the brown strands away.
Ironically, she found it easier to focus her mind when there were people about. It was not so piercingly silent, in which any slightest noise would jar her attention. Besides, there was something comforting and familiar about the presence of others which made it easier to focus on the task at hand. Still with her eyes closed, Sayana turned her head towards the rising sun, feeling the faint warmth upon her eyelids. Then she pictured a beautiful ring of fire with a dark dark hole in the middle. Flames churning and never stopping she kept the image in her mind. Slowly she began discarding feelings of doubt, self-consciousness, and even her pride. There was nothing but that brilliant flaming ring.
Five chimes passed, maybe even ten before she opened her eyes. A distant part of her was eager to try auristics right away, but she smothered the excitement and instead chose to evoke hypnotism, as a warm up.
“Fine morning. Have you any extra food by chance?” Sayana asked of one of the sailors milling about.
“Did you get your rations for breakfast?”
“Yes.” She answered meekly. However, when he was about to turn away, she caught his gaze fiercely. Harnessing her magic she sent out ripples of attraction, gently caressing his inner core. He seemed to falter a moment, but still turned away.
“Are you sure?” She called out. “If there was any way to return the favor…” At last he took the bait, and she followed it up with a coy smile. “I’ll…. I’ll see what I can do,” he answered shyly but with an underlying glow to his face.
Wonderful. A good way to warm up and a promise of food too.
