Keira 30th Spring 514AV *OOC Note* I will be referring to Keira by the name she was given before she changed it. This, was not how things were supposed to go. She had known that he was protective, but not this much. Tears trickled down Reika’s face as she hid beneath her parent’s window behind a row of bushes. The sharp prick of branches and the itch of dirt felt like nothing compared to the ache in her chest as the argument inside got louder and louder. A frantic voice, was only made shriller every time a calm one interjected. Her parents were arguing and everything, was her fault. Or at least, she viewed it as such. A flinch crossed her face as the sound of shattering glass filled the night. “He could have killed someone!” Her mother’s voice was filled with a wary vehemence. “But he did not.” Her father’s reply, was much softer and tired. “That is not the point. He COULD.” The response made Reika flinch again. Kor would not, he would not! She would not believe that. Her friend would NOT kill anyone. It took the teen much more willpower than she thought she would need to not jump up and defend her friend. She was trying to get caught but the accusations, they just kept coming. “Saeri, you know what he is…what they are. They are animals in the end and he is not that young anymore.” It had been a year since Reika first met her Kelvic companion and the tiger was not…as small as he used to be anymore. Now standing a good foot taller than her, Kor easily towered over most people. His more athletic build was nothing to laugh over either. The boy liked running, he liked swimming; he liked most physical activities. It was actually getting quite hard, to keep the tiger contained to their home, and their house was not affluent enough to afford grounds that were vast. Everyone, was well aware that it was only loyalty that had him staying, well that…and a slave mark. “Yuer, you know he was only doing his job.” The woman’s reply was lost to Reika as she slapped her palms over her ears. She did not want to listen. Not one bit! Shooting out of the bushes, she raced back towards her room where she flung herself on the bed. Her dirty shoes were yanked off and tossed at the door with a huff. She hated this. All he did was protect her and now…now he was locked in the shed, collared so he could not shift. This time the tears fell harder. This really was all her fault, she curled beneath her sheets. She should have not tried to play with the older children at least…not those. They had been nothing like the slave kids she had gotten to know about her home much to her mother’s disappointment. They were nothing close to being as warm as those. But she had hoped, she had tried, and trying had turned around and bit her. Nothing would have turned out like this if she had not talked to the other children of the Lorak household. If she had been able to hold her tongue, just maybe…maybe they would not have pushed her, making Kor angry in the progress. The then shifted tiger may not have bit but he had lunged and tigers…were very heavy. The broken wrist the attacked boy sustained after the fall was not a laughing matter either. Petite hands curled into fists, her thoughts darkened. If that boy had not been higher ranked, they would not even be having this issue. But he was and now, his parents wanted their dues. It scared her, they had so much influence because they were just a bit higher ranked. And because it scared her, she also hated it, she hated them. The young girl fist tightened even further as a wash of anger flooded her, a product of her fear. What right, did those people have? She gritted her teeth and sniffled back the tears. The feeling of pride squeezed her chest with its intensity. She was not, going to let these people walk over her, or her Kelvic. She swore this. One day, they were going to fear her, one day, they were going to respect her. With these thoughts, Reika would fall asleep. |
