Keira 1st Summer 514AV *OOC Note* I will be referring to Keira by the name she was given before she changed it. Tears flowed like a steady river out of Reika’s eyes as she sat, curled against her father. Her mother, who sat a bit away, wore a face of stone. A look was shared between the couple before the older man moved. His large form cradled Reika’s own as his fingers ran through her hair. “Rei…it will be okay, I promise.” At this particular moment, the man regretted bringing home a friend for his daughter. If he had known that it would have ended this way, he never would have. He hugged her tight. Warmth would pass from him to her but the dark haired child could not feel it at all. She could only stare blankly at the wall ahead. An occasional hiccup would shake her body but even as she cried, she was silent. She was past the stage of screaming and snot, even if the latter stained her face. The small body trembled as she took a shuddering breath then whimpered. The palm at her chest curled. It hurt, it hurt a lot. It felt like something important had been torn out of her body but she did not know exactly what it was. All she knew was, that if Kor was here…if Kor was home, she would not have felt like this at all. Her friend, her best friend, her maybe brother… was gone and it felt as if her world had broken. A small utterance of ‘no’ parted her lips as she turned to press her face into her father’s chest. But Kor was not here and he would never be here again. Everyone, was calling him an animal but he was not. He was just Kor… Reika’s fingers yanked at her father’s clothes and another shudder shook her body when she breathed in sharply. Realization was making more tears trickle down her face. She was not going to be able to see her friend anymore. She was not going to have company, she was not going to have someone to confide in. The girl’s grip dug into her father’s shirt and she squeezed her eyes shut. She had lost him, just because there was someone stronger, someone more important out there that could demand things at their own whims. The petite half-ling hoped that this was nothing but a horrible dream but she knew better than that, how could she be dreaming if she hurt this much. The body shook again once more before stilling. The quiet cries, tapered off into complete silence. Wrought with exhaustion, the child could no longer hold onto the vestige of wakefulness. Looking down at his daughter, Saeri flinched. It hurt him, to see her like this and for this, he also blamed himself. He had long since forgotten, just how earnest a child’s love –be it even a light affection –could be. He pressed his lips against his daughter’s forehead. To care, to cherish, to love, so openly and freely; it was a gift and a curse. |
