"I feel what they are feeling - their joy and their pain.
Animals are different than people.
They are more honest about things than people could ever be.
That is why I am their healer, their caretaker, both upon the land and within the sea."

avala has a typical Konti appearance. Pale luminous skin covers a small delicate form. Kavala has waist length straight white hair that she normally wears loose, although like many of the Drykas, there might be a small braid or two in the fall tipped with a colored glass bead. While Kavala is slight, her body is well corded with muscle. Working with horses keeps her active and fit. Kavala moves deliberately, with no wasted action and with no desire to draw attention to herself. Bright blue eyes tend to move from pale blue to dark azure depending on her mood and the circumstances. Kavala has elaborate wind tattoos across the small of her back, earned when a cyphrus strider decided to allow her to be her rider.
Her konti scales are iridescent mainly running from pinks to blues and are visible on her hands and neck. Like all Konti, she has webbed fingers and toes that run halfway up to the middle knuckle of her digits.
Kavala's skin is unmarred by scars. She had a host of them, but as of 84th of Winter, 513, Caelum and Rak'keli healed the signs of torture on her body that reminded her of her past and now her back is decorated with a raised scarring - beautiful - of her chavi. Since the faint physical scarring that resembles someone having etched her skin with the blade of a knife to induce pain has passed, there is no more haunted look in Kavala's eyes.
She has the gnosis mark of Rak'Keli - twin rakanivas - entwined around her right ankle. On her left hip is Nysal's spiral. On the back of her hand is Eryis' symbol.... all obvious gnosis marks.
More recently Kavala has a tattoo on the underside of her left wrist depicting her Kuvan status in Riverfall.

he Konti Healer is a quiet - driven - figure. Her whole outlooks is unassuming and unpretentious. She dwells outside of the world, fitting in neither with the Drykas Pavilion she was born too nor the Konti women who give her heritage. She's trying to build herself a life in which she is dependent upon none and wholly self sufficient. Kavala has evolved into a ruthless unapologetic killer if the need arises. Wounds fascinate her - wounds of all kind not just those restricted to the body - and she has never been squeamish about blood or the body. That being said, she is not adverse to violence and tends to be somewhat gentle with people if they merit it. Malicious people see only her ruthless cutthroat side. While not a pushover, Kavala would rather keep the peace than enhance conflict. Her calming nature has a calming effect on those around her as well - be they wild animals or something as unpredictable as a Cerulean. Kavala has few friends, probably because her social skills are lacking, and perhaps because she prefers silence over filling the world with empty conversation.
avala has a konti gift, like the whole of the race. Unlike most Konti however, her gift doesn't pertain to people. This is probably one of the reasons she'll never be a good councilor figure. Instead, her gift involves animals and also kelvics. While the closest description to what she experiences is animal empathy, it can be far more than that. Kavala feels what animals feel and if she is around specific individuals enough, she can pick up glimpses of their thinking. Her strider, for example, can flash pictures of carrots in her mind when Windsong wants a carrot from his mistress. It also helps make her an excellent animal healer because she can intensely feel where they hurt. If an animal is a kelvic, she can often feel their thoughts and if shes close enough sometimes they might seem like they are indeed her own. Kavala over the years has learned to separate out her own thoughts from theirs - but animals can still heavily influence her mood and feelings by what they project.
As of Winter 515, the God of Mischief gifted everyone in Riverfall with additional abilities which Kavala has retained.
Kavala's very presence increases the sentience of animals, birds and fish around her so that they can manifest speech either physically or mentally that herself and others can hear. This 'speech' comes in the form of a language or mental projection that is in a language someone listening can understand. They won't get incredibly intelligent or anything, but their speech will come in the form of something on their level. As she gets a grip on the gift, Kavala will be able to 'tone it down' to silence the animals or simply make it a more 'private' channel. She can however expand it at will to all around the area hearing as well. Control comes with practice which will take time. Animals that are naturally intelligent might sound human as they speak while not so intelligent animals might have very basic language and communications in vocalizations.
For example, if Kavala is tossing bread to seagulls on the beach, herself and others might hear them squabbling over the snacks in the form of actual vocalized "Mine! Mine! Mines!" More intelligent animals - mammals etc - might be able to hold whole conversations with her or someone else within her presence.
