Philtering and cooking

Postby Tsari on November 13th, 2016, 2:22 am

Excuse the question, but how does philtering relate to cooking? According to the skill sheet it 'opens up a whole new section of cooking' and can be used to 'create two or more layers of flavor in their dishes which might be wholly independent of each other', but I'm very confused about how that would work exactly. It seems very much the Mizahar version of chemistry, and (speaking as somebody who is neither a chemist nor a chef) I don't understand how the two relate.

Philtering and cooking

I don't know the full answer, but here are some examples I've seen of a Mizahar cook (Orin Fenix) likely utilizing philtering in his recipes:

- Brining pork
- Fermenting vinegar
- Grog recipe
- Mayonnaise Recipe
- Utilizing mold to create soysauce
- Preparing medical tea (most medicines off the pricelist require philtering)
- Using cheesecloth as a filter

All of the above were taken from his CS in his list of cooking lores.

Also off the top of my head, I could imagine something like jam or jelly requiring gelatin might have use for philtering.

EDIT: Yeast too (for making bread) might require some knowledge of philtering.

Philtering and cooking

With Philtering you can add all kinds of things into your dishes as you cook. For example, a person with healing can infuse via philtering, healing properties into their cookies and have those cookies heal to get things like 'bone repair cookies' or 'burn ease cookies' etc.
