Located north of Syka on the tip of The Maw lies an area of the coast affectionately refereed to as The Swine Swells. The Sykians that discovered this stretch of beach speculate that a shipwreck or perhaps svefra themselves planted the first pigs in this area. They reproduced well and have taken to the water like birds to the wind. The Swine Swells are a stretch of beach that have been called home to about a hundred or more pigs that reproduce quickly and feed both in and out of the water.
Relatively sheltered in the shallows, they only fall prey to sharks during high tide events. Venturing further into the jungle for food often leads them into the hands or rather claws of big cats. One pig can feed a big cat for days and since the predators have no real large numbers, the pigs enjoy light predation.
That means there are a lot of them and they haven't learned to avoid humans. Friendly, even curious, the swine of The Swine Swells have been tamed by the settlers of Syka and brought back to the settlement for breeding to provide an easy source of meat. Hunters will also find ample game at the beach where these swine roam.
Having no real size to them, these medium pigs are descended from domestic breeds so they have no tusks nor a fierce temper like the wild boar that are sometimes found in the jungle. Occasionally they interbreed with warthogs and by some odd twist of fate the offspring become monstrous hybrids that can easily kill humans.
To those who don't wish for an easy pork dinner or a pet to take home, the swine of The Swine Swells will often welcome visitors who bear treats of fruit and bread and will swim readily with them.
