Elin sighed as she approached the Withering Rose, ready for an evening at work, although she was still apprehensive about being away from her children in Alvadas. She had only just got used to leaving them with other people in Syliras, and now she knew she'd have to get used to leaving them all over again, this time knowing that there weren't knights everywhere.
Even so she knew that they'd be safe.
Still, she smiled and adjusted her uniform, the black velvet dress and white apron that had been lent to her when she got the dress, before she made her way into the building, a slight smile on her face as she did so.
Soon she was shown to the kitchen and introduced to the chef, a young woman named Aramia, and Elin smiled softly and introduced herself.
Next thing she knew, she was left in charge of preparing the foods for the salad before the restaurant opened, while the other cooks and chefs prepared the other meals.
Smiling, Elin did as she was told, finding a few leafy vegetables, a few tomatoes, a couple of large mushrooms, a few onions that were purple in colour, a hunk of cheese, and a few nut like things that the chef told her were almonds.
Grinning, Elin thanked the chef, before retrieving a chopping board and a knife, before rifling through the leafy vegetables that would be part of the salad. There were a few that was wrapped around itself to create a ball shape, each one in a slightly different colour from red to bright green to light green, and then there was another with dark green leaves that were strewn all over but connected at the base, and then a few others, but all were clean and damp, some with water droplets left on them from when they must have been washed, so now it was a case of chopping them ready for when the salads were ordered.
Smiling she opted for the salad leaves that weren't wrapped around themselves, cutting them away from the base with a light smile on her face.
Then once the leaves were all separated, she had a look at the leaves more closely to see that they were maybe too big for a salad, but she wasn't completely sure and so she turned to Aramia and asked her advice, before getting to work on cutting the leaves into quarters like Aramia said, being careful not to cut herself on the knife.
By the time she was done with those she had a large amount of the leaves, and carefully she placed them into a large bowl that would hold them throughout the night as she worked.
As she did so Aramia offered to show her how to chop the spherical ones and Elin accepted gladly, wanting to be sure that she would do what was expected and what was correct, rather than trying to guess how things were supposed to be done.
She watched closely as Aramia hit the base of the spherical leaved vegetable, then reached into it to pull out the point at which the leaves all connected, severing the leaves from each other.
Then Elin watched as Aramia cut the head into quarters, and then began to slice the leaves thickly.
"Thank you." Elin smiled as she spoke, hoping to make a good impression, before taking over again, finishing slicing that head.
Even so she knew that they'd be safe.
