Banu loves them, she worships them. Every important moment in Banu's life was marked with a storm. She also likes swimming, sailing, helping out around the Pod, partying and carving. Dislikes: Landlubbers, bananas, outsider pirates, and poachers. Merits: Strong willed, resilient, deep like the see and unpredictable like the storms which she loves. Flaws: Banu is as temperamental as the weather above the waters she calls home, changing from sunny to stormy in a matter of seconds. Her unpredictable tendencies make her particularly hard to discuss controversial matters with. With Banu, a friendly debate may turn into a brawl, a few negative comments may be taken to the highest level of personal offense. Fluent: Fratava Basic: Common Poor: xXx If you ask any of her pod members about Banu, they will tell you that she is an embodiment of the weather itself. On the morning of her birth, the winds blew and the lighting flashed and then it became calm and the sun shone gently over the open waters until night came. Many of her kin like to joke that the unpredictable skies on her day of birth became a part of her, for she is as erratic and fickle as they come. Her anger is dangerous, but very quick, dissipating at a moments notice. She can be loud and destructive like the gales over the waters, or quite and contemplative like a gentle, salty breeze. Banu was born into her pod and she plans to die in it as well. Unlike some of the more ambitious young women who wish to become Lias, Banu is happy to be a free-spirit without all the responsibility that comes with being the matriarch of a pod. She is fiercely loyal to her pod members, and while she may be rude and unbearable at times, she loves them all and they feel the same. Her feet itch to move, move, move, never wanting to stay in one place. As a child, her parents did not need to force her to learn to swim, Banu was eager, running towards the water every chance she got. "Jack of all trades, master of none, but better than a master of one." She learns quickly, an adequate swimmer, fisherman, weather reader, and sailor, as well as a craftsman of her carvings, especially whalebone carvings, a skill which has been passed down through her family for generations. She plans to one day become a master carpenter. While Banu is happy to help with the child-rearing in her pod, often times the Lia finds other tasks for her to do out of the fear that Banu might bring all the young ones with her into one of her crazy schemes. And when they say crazy, they do not exaggerate. Banu loves to do things that are both impractical and dangerous, and she is very happy to bring a willing participant along with her. Her games started young and typical, betting that she could hold her breath underwater the longest, which often ended up disastrous. As she got older, they got more dangerous. A few of her favorite pastimes include trying to catch young sharks with her bare hands, diving deep down with her Tavan, directing her ship straight into storms, and dolphin surfing, all of which are viewed with a sort of resigned dismay by her pod. Banu also enjoys harassing ships that pass through their waters unaccompanied by Svefra escorts, and this is one activity that Banu's pod will join in on with her.  Banu is a notorious partier. She loves the planning, the festivities and the aftermath of every festival and is actively involved in making sure there is at least one celebration a month. Guests at such festivals are warned of Banu, she drinks, she talks and she flirts, but she isn't to be crossed. Alcohol makes her more unpredictable, and it's wise to let those who know her handle the girl when she is intoxicated. Despite Banu's wild side, she is a devout worshipper of Laviku, leaving offerings to him whenever possible. She is the first person to tell you that she is but an insignificant speck in the vast domains of her gods, a rare flash of humility that is only seen when discussing religion with her. History There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm. Banu was born into her pod to the couple Azure and Khalid, during a great, thundering storm. It raged for the early hours of her birth, lasting almost a full day and damaging several ships. Ironically, her parents decided to name her 'Banu', meaning rays of the sunlight, and as evening came, the storm suddenly dissipated. The ocean calmed and was washed a brilliant orange by the setting sun. The next notable event in her life was when the girl's mother, Azure, passed away, killed in yet another bad storm that swept over the sea while the woman was out fishing. When asked about her, Banu will admit that while she wishes she had known Azure better, she is too young to truly remember her mother and thus feels wistful instead of grief struck when thinking about her. Several years later, another storm hit, and Banu's friend Mati died tragically when they were both swept off the boat and lost at sea. Banu was the only one to make it back to her pod in one piece. Mati's death left a permanent impression on Banu. She withdrew from her pod after the incident, spending most of her time swimming, praying, and attempting to duplicate the intricate carvings of her mother. It took nearly eight seasons for her to finally come back out of her shell and reclaim the wild, playful side of herself that had been lost in her grief. After that, Banu's life resumed its sense of normalcy. Despite her experiences in the past, she stayed absolutely fascinated by storms, often hanging from the front of the ship to feel the spray of rain in her face and hear the booming thunder while the other pod children huddled below deck, soothing their fear with fairy tales. Khalid left when Banu was fifteen to follow a romantic conquest into another pod, but Banu stayed behind, every loyal to the Lia and her podkin. Now that is considered an Adult, she is being encouraged by the Lia to find a suitable partner to have children with. Banu, however, is fickle in every way, including romance, and while dalliances have their appeal, she has no intention to settle down anytime soon.  Appearance If looks could kill, you'd be six feet under. Banu is tan and lithe, with blue eyes like twin hurricanes about to make landfall and a death glare that wreaks havoc wherever she goes. Her hair is black and shiny, like a captured piece of the starless night sky, and her body is freckled and littered with scars from childhood incidents. She is muscled and well toned from days working on her boat and diving under the waves, and her left eye is lazy and will drift from time to time. Gnosis Mark :

Lia Aarna became the leader of the Seafoams when she was in her twenties. She is a dedicated and strong willed leader who manages her pod well as a whole, but often neglects individuals. Lia is a believer in 'the needs of the group outweigh the needs of the individual'. Because of this, she can come off as insensitive and uncaring. Leelu and Lahar

Lahar takes after her father, with an outgoing personality that borders on bossy, while Leela takes after her good-natured mother. He tried hard to be favored by the Lia, staunchly following rules and gaining a reputation as a tattle tale among the other pod children. Despite his best efforts to be noticed by the Lia, she treated him with the same distance she treated everyone else in the pod. Mati, being too young to understand this was her approach towards everything, was very hurt and began to develop self-esteem issues. He was fascinated by Banu and her disregard for rules. Azure

With the help of the pod, he raised Banu without her mother for what he thought was a reasonable amount of time before leaving to follow another romantic conquest.
