The Hoarfrost family has always been very heterogenous throughout its generations. Misaele's grandfather was thought by most to be a skilled and eccentric summoner, who incredibly died of aging instead of being killed by the ceatures he summoned, while his father had never shown interest in magic and, instead, became a skillful merchant. Misaele's mother was a great nurse and really overprotective towards her only son, hence she was always reluctant whenever her son decided to go visit his powerful grandfather. Ascanio Hoarfrost, Misaele's grandfather and best friend, was the one who introduced the boy to magic. He taught him the importance of the underrated discipline of Glyphing, the amazing power of Reinmancy, the usefulness of Auristics and the beauty he saw in Summoning. He was overall considered quite a dangerous model figure for Misaele. As a matter of fact, the boy's father forbade Ascanio to teach his grandson anything related to magic, but, not surprisingly, he didn't comply with what he was forced to promise. Even though the boy loved the old mage and felt inspired by him to follow his footsteps, he didn't want to become like Ascanio, addicted by magic almost to folly. As a matter of fact, he thought of himself of being very diffeent from his grandfather, and that magic would never become toxic to him. He was bloody wrong.
Misaele's childhood has been quite magical and somewhat lonely. The other kids were usually scared by his grandfather and thought that he would curse them if the boy lost at their games. To make him even lonelier, he would spend most of his time with either his mother, sticking around the infirmery she worked in, or with his father at the shop.
When Misaele turned twenty-one, Ascanio decided to take him to Sahova and show his grandson what real magic looked like, without considering the dangers they would have had to face. Misaele didn't really feel like leaving home and travelling to the mysterious island of the Nuits, but his curiosity was greater than his fears, so he accepted to go. During the travel, though, Ascanio passed away. He was too old to survive a long travel and he knew it, but his grandson's future as a mage was more important than his own life. The boy, despite the great loss, both because of the curiosity and the desire to continue his grandfather's legacy, decided to go on travelling and, finally, he reached Sahova. |
