Kilns are commonly part of a community center, but in Syka all kinds of craftsmanship is encouraged. The Founders have painstakingly put in resources so that the settlers of Syka cannot help but contribute to the whole of the group. Kilns provide a necessary service firing ceramics and glass. And not only is there a kiln available, wood and clay for sale, there are tools and potters wheels located in a shed close to the kiln and community events center that can be unlocked by the resident potter who has the key. The tables in the Community Events Center are useful for throwing clay and taking pottery classes from Nesra Arlean, a young woman from Syliras who brought the fine art of pottery with her.
When Nesra is not teaching ceramic classes or tending the kiln, she is throwing pots and plates for the Mercantile to sell. Living in one of the Overwater Ranchos, Nesra isn't that forthcoming about her past. She is friendly enough, but doesn't often comment about her history and tends to steer the conversation away if she's asked personal questions. Introverted and heavily artistic, she knows a great deal about glazes and finishes as well as how to make paints from natural items throughout the jungle.

Nesra hitched a ride with a Svefra Pod to Syka as soon as she heard they were taking settlers. Extremely gifted in ceramics, Nesra hoped her skills would be appreciated in Syka where they were not in Syliras. Having escaped a bad family situation and a worse indenturement, Nesra is in essence hiding out in Syka working her craft while trying to develop a style that is unique enough no one from 'back home' would recognize her goods if Syka exports her work.
Consequently she doesn't talk about her life. She doesn't even use her real name. Nesra is an assumed name from a very old story. She lives cheaply often hanging out in The Syka Commons, sleeping in a guest quarters, and utilizing the Communal Kitchens to cook when she isn't gifted food. In return, she produces many many pieces of pottery from the Mercantile and collects and restocks the clay in the clay shed.
