The Jugged Hare is a combination butcher shop and prepared meat dishes establishment – something like a meat pie shop where you can also purchase game meat to cook yourself. The populace of the city has a ready source of fish and farm raised meats, but the Jugged Hare fills a small niche of catering to those who prefer wild game, such as venison, wild boar, mountain sheep, hare, etc.
What’s on offer may vary day to day and season to season, depending on what the local hunters are able to bring in. The shop is named after a traditional dish which is a specialty and favourite of the owners, where hare is cut into portions and stewed in a tightly covered jug with red wine and juniper berries, and the hare’s blood if that’s to your taste. The shop offers their namesake's meal and sell a number of tasty dishes (pies, pasties, and sausages) as well as selling the raw product (whole or in cuts) for the customer to take home and whip up into their own favorite dish.
While the daytime hours see a steady flow of customers - the usual assortment of cooks, chefs and stay at home mom's with mouths to feed - the Jugged Hare takes on a more flamboyant tone under Leth's night sky. Tables and chairs are set up out front, while fresh ale brewed in the backroom provides lubrication for already high spirited townsfolk. The establishment is, after all, strategically located just off of Springwater Square, the peak's central location for Lhavitian night life.
Despite being one of Lhavit's busier shops, the Jugged Hare finds just two people in its employ, Varda and Lomki Samlinc. Varda and Lomki married young, and together they opened up their own business, which they have run together for over 36 years.
It began as a traditional butcher shop, but soon they discovered an unfilled niche, that of providing game meat to the citizens of the city. With Varda’s cookery skills, they soon added another dimension to their shop – providing already prepared game dishes. Though they work closely as a team, Varda takes the lead with both selling and buying, and is the true business woman of the operation, while Lomki seems more than happy with his role as 'head brewer'.

Lomki grew up as the son of a local butcher, learning the trade from a young age. He fell in love with Vorda when he were just a teenager, and the rest is history. Lomki is much more quiet than his wife and has a serious air to him, and tends to do the 'behind the scenes' work in the shop. That being said, he tells an excellent story should one convince him to do so.
