Taren and Nodak Coballon
Race: Akalak
Gender: Male
Age: 76
Birthday: 14th day of fall, 442.
Birthplace: Riverfall
Appearance: Taren is on the tall side even of most Akalaks and stands 7’2” while weighing in around 280 lbs, his large muscles ripples from under his light cobalt skin. Although he has jet black hair, he normally shaves his head unlike the normal customs of his brethren and making him hairless from head to toe. The withering stare of his kind coming from behind the cold ice blue eyes that can pierce and intimidate many unwary travellers, his discipline forces him to stand straight and tall but move with a grace and fluidity that belies his huge frame. Seldom talking but when he does it is a rumble of deep base.
Character Concept
Normally Taren is a balanced person with his two personalities working in unison for the most part. Taren is compassionate, friendly, and even happy or carefree by Akalak terms while Nodak is meaner, sarcastic, abrasive, and very devious when needed. While his son was growing up he slowly became unbalanced with his darker half taking more and more control until it is no longer able to tell which one is which so he has been going into the wilderness for days at a time to try and rebalance himself without succeeding except for developing a bad habit of muttering to himself.
Taren is currently at a crossroads in his own mind, and a battle is going on that could lead him down several paths dependent on what he can discover about himself. With the help and advice of his family he is deciding on whether he should travel to discover new places and hopefully rediscover himself.
Character History
As with most Akalaks, family is very important to Taren and he considers his family fairly large, they have a small set of dwellings on the cliffs of the Bluevein Falls. His great grandfather is seldom around dealing with his jewelry making business, while his grandfather and father takes care of most of the family business as well along with their training facility. His grandfather, Tarlan now 275, had his father TarRen and his twin brother TarNa, with an Inarta woman named Tre’ena, whom had passed away many years ago. TarRen is now 150 years and had him with a Konti woman named Laren and following in the family custom named him Taren. His mother was around a portion of his childhood so he did remember her quite fondly unlike most Akalaks never knowing their mothers, she had returned to her homeland some years ago at a quite vulnerable age. His father along with a couple of others had escorted her home and then returned to Riverfall, although he did not know if she still lived in her homeland or not he often thought of her. He himself had fallen in love and bonded with a Kelvic lady named Aloxa just after achieving manhood and with luck smiling upon them, they were given a baby boy. However fate took Aloxa shortly after childbirth with Taren naming his son Tarlox in memory of her and raised him properly in Akalak manner although the death of his Aloxa weighed heavily on his heart and mind from then to this very day.
As a boy he remembers spending bits of time with his mother between his training sessions. They would go on walks or sit and talk by the waterfall where she had started teaching him her native tongue and a touch of her medicine that she was so proud of but he never grasped more then the most basic concepts. His grandfather and Father taught him many of the the combat techniques that he needed as both were very qualified for it and with the help of their teachings he was able to pass his rites when he needed to. Although the training was hard, he had proved himself worthy of both family and clan during his trial. After his son was born and became old enough to learn, he trained his son in the same manner as he had learned with the help of his father and grandfather. When his son started getting older and was less dependent on him, he had started taking trips into the grasslands to strike a new balance between his personalities.
Knowing he is unbalanced and having been unsuccessful on regaining his balance he knows he must change, he can no longer allow himself to be safe and comfortable in his family home in Riverfall so he finds a small cottage away from his family moves into il. He is not sure what he must do yet but it has to be soon.
