Tomorrow is December 1st and the first day of Winter! Please plan accordingly. Feel free to put up some placeholders if you are interested in finishing out some plots in Syka this season. It's been rather slow, and mostly that's been my fault for being so busy at work and being away. Next season I am going to do some intense focus in Syka... even if I just have one player. I'm fine with that. You will get lots of attention if that's the case.

Hi Folks.

We have lots of new people, so please understand you need to PM me before you start in the city or post your intro thread. Remember, our Calendar has kind of a crazy theme this season, so be sure if your threading in the city to pick your song and post in the Calendar thread about what it is and why it is applicable. You need a job so you can be contributing to the colony and not just freeloading (they'll chase you off). And everyone needs an intro thread either soloed or with me as you start. I can do multiple intro threads, so don't worry about overworking me. You just need to know what Founder you want to meet and what sort of thing you want to do for the settlement to stay.

Syka has it good. Food isn't an issue. Some resources are scarce, but it enjoys amazing weather, beautiful scenery, and a life/death jungle that's full of secrets in the form of ruins and remanents of the past.

Before you start, read the entire codex, and familiarize yourself with the NPCs. We have a very very small settlement here, so there is room for all kinds of people.

I'll be honest with you people.

I think your all being a bit unreasonable. Listen... I put up the calendar roughly on the first day of the season. Seasons last 3 total months, that's 90 days. A lot of you registered recently for Syka, which is cool... but now I'm getting pm's asking about the seasonal events. Most of them were designed to be MODERATED threads. You can't solo, for example, rescuing an ancient uber powerful creature that makes the gods take a pause and exude caution as in the Velispar thread. The creatures in the mist were supposed to be an adventure based moderated thread for the city...

Now some of you are PMing me about seasonal events and if I can run them etc. I'm already moderating two threads here as intro threads in Syka and I have several new players that haven't gotten intro threads done yet. You had the option of soloing those as well... and honestly in real life I'm working 10-12 hr days often 6 days a week. I don't know if you all understand what kind of tired that makes someone... let alone the kind of tired someone gets who's drastically anemic and has to get iron infusions once a week to even keep living...

So no. Just no. We aren't starting any huge moderated threads until intro threads are done and everyone is settled into Syka. We have a month and a half left. We're only halfway through the season. I'll post the moderated threads when life levels out and I'm not doing intro threads.

But have a bit of courtesy. I might have once been a posting machine but I'm not right now with health issues and my work schedule.

Hello everyone!

Today is the last day of the season so if you need to do some placeholders, feel free to get them posted tonight by midnight. Tomorrow will be a whole new theme with a whole new season. I'm working most of the day so I am not sure I'll get the entire site (let alone syka) changed over before tomorrow evening. So be patient with me! I have another fun thing in play for this season... something you all should hopefully enjoy weaving into your seasonal plots!

Happy Summer! This is going to be a kinda long OOC so bear with me. But please read it all. It has important information within.

I'm finally caught up on my PMs. I have super limited time (and I haven't written seriously on my own PC for two weeks or responded to quests because of irl time crunching) so I'll go through and try to get some of the request threads caught up today but I'm not going to lie. I'll do job threads/wages/quick requests first. And if you didn't follow the rules of the request thread, your entry will be deleted without being addressed until you can read all the rules.

I'm not trying to be mean, but if I took the time to write out the request thread with guidelines, please follow the guidelines. They are to keep us both sane. And if you start in Syka it is imperative that you TALK TO ME - arrange your arrival method, job, and your MANDATORY STARTING THREAD immediately before you jump in. Mandatory starting threads can be self moderated/moderated by me/or guest moderated. You just have to arrange them with me to be a valid settlement member.

My IRL is completely crazy right now, but I will take the time to get you set up.

I know I have been super busy, but I've also been in chat 24/7 when I have been at work 24/7 and I answer chatters almost immediately or shortly thereafter and you will get a response the same day or just a few hours later if you need one from chat DMs. And I will explain things to you that need explaining. Don't rely on other players. If you don't complete your mandatory thread and setup, your active play will be locked down. If I'm slow posting to your intro thread... I'm not holding you back or holding it against you. RP your heart out. If your doing your end of the deal, you're golden.

I'm also adding a wage request format that needs to be followed from now on (after the current requests going forward) because some of you have jobs that were set up by AS's that I have no OOC SS record of etc. I don't want to have to track you down to figure out what the returning players are actually doing job wise in Syka.

So you are officially set up with a job in Syka if:

1. You did your mandatory thread/are doing it.
2. You have a formal PM from me saying your job is set up and your SS thread updated or a link to your new SS thread.
3. You are listed in The Employment Guide formally.

When this stuff doesn't happen, you aren't officially set up! I am too busy to follow situations like 'business plan approvals' etc unless you nudge me. And if you don't nudge me, I am not going to remember to do it. So don't let your 'not wanting to bother me' get to you. Bother me... get your stuff set up. Its a priority for me. If I nudge Gillar to review a business plan, odds are he does it late at night after I am asleep (when hes most active) and I won't know anything at all about it unless I happen to see it the next day in 'new posts' or 'active threads' and usually thats' when I'm at work and can't act on it.

Lets do it right from the get go so we don't have to stop everything and set up a job in the middle of a season or something!

Switching gears...

Another thing of note... the Syka river is not navigable by big boats, only shallow bottom things like canoes or maybe a smaller casinor or catamaran. Your only option to come from the sea. Inland there is nothing and no civilizations that would bring you by boat, unless you are something like a dhani or myrian and already live in Falyndar and came in your canoe. Again, mind the WS. You need EXPERT to survive in Syka's jungles safely. The only exception to this is a Phylonura witch. Even if he or she lacked skills, things might not eat him or her quite as fast.

All NPCs need to be in the NPC format and make sense. They have to arrive to Syka by a means that makes sense to all of us because Syka isn't big enough to have random people spawned like a SIMS game.

And please... we need grader help!!! Some of you - if you have extra time - need to volunteer to study the grading guide and take the quiz. Its fairly easy and you would be soooo appreciated!

Also, one final thing. I've been running this site a long time. I will update things at the proper time. If I don't, nudge me! But please don't ask me to post registries and things like that early before the Season Change. Everyone whose been here a while knows those new registries go up the DAY the season changes as do the calendars etc. Don't ask me to update wiki info on quests that are ongoing. You don't know how the quests are going to turn out.

If you want to help with the wiki, feel free to ask for wiki privileges and do so. But don't put quest privilege info into the wiki as canon lore before things are completed.

And frankly, it comes off like you are arrogant/demanding/and I'm a child. I am probably and possibly twice your age or older and I will be doing things when its the proper time. I'm sure you don't like being treated like a child either. So ease back on the dictation please. I am not your paid assistant. I am giving my time to this site.

I just wanted to clarify part of the Calendar with folks. The Seasonal Challenges part is kinda confusing for some people. I was asked about it in chat. Here's what I said.

The Challenges .... are for the medals right?
You must complete them within the season.
And you must get all of them.
They are also a loose guideline to give you ideas on stuff to thread on.
AND there are incentives thrown in like word count etc that will let you pick up some extras
the extras aren't required for the medal.
They are for prizes and such... the prizes are out of all the prizes I've awarded in weekend challenges.
Does that make sense?



... so lets use summer for an example


❖ Be involved in some sort of beach roleplay - a bonfire at night or a pit roast or even some fishing expeditions.

❖ Become involved in a community event or activity such as building something the community needs or repairing or upgrading something the community already has.

❖ Discover one of Syka's Secrets (see me for ideas).

❖ Help a neighbor with a project.

❖ Master a skill and have a conversation with a god associated with that skill (D.A.T.S).

❖ Tell someone a story that somehow involves the obsession.

❖ Write at least 15,000 words and keep track of them in your singular post below and I will give you opportunities to pick quest items from the weekly challenges that have been issued in the past year. The more you write the bigger the selection I'll give you. If you write up to 25,000 or more... I will give you a choice of ANY of the past quest items.


The first six are the challenges... the last one is an extra bonus.
But... again.. even the extra bonus has to be done within the season.
So far no one has completed the challenges because one of the main requirements is tracking your progress.
So like you have a post below in the calendar... as required ... listing your obsession...

In that post you track all the threads you write and the word count.... or any of the challenges you completed in that thread.

Obsession listed here and explained... then a list below...

THREAD ONE: Eyes Wide Open - 4,523 words (completed discovering a Syka Secret)
THREAD TWO: Hassling Monkeys - 2,354 words (helped a neighbor with a project)

etc etc

Then on the last day of the season if you have all the challenges completed, you get the medal and if you did the word count you get some prizes... we discuss them based on your activity, word count, etc. The prizes are those from the list of the weekend challenges I' have developed.

If you complete the challenges in thread, but don't finish the thread as a whole till after season change, does that discount it from being included?
