Physical Description
Aiyana is a very small, petite girl, standing at 4’10” and weighing 91 pounds, with smooth olive toned skin. Her diminutive size and thin limbs give her a very delicate appearance, though she is still is somewhat strong from years running and exploring with her friends during her childhood. Aiyas delicately featured face is framed by long, wavy jet black hair that when left loose reaches to her waist. When she moves, her hair shimmers with a slight red iridescence. Her small, full lipped mouth and little round nose are balanced out by large, deep set eyes. Like all Vantha Aiyas eyes change color according to her mood, but they are usually a deep violet. Regardless of what color her eyes are, they retain an iridescence to them at all times. Aiyana usually wears a loose white cotton tunic with long sleeves and that reaches down to her waist, and thick leggings that are dyed a pale blue. She wears medium brown boots and has a long white cloak lined with pale grey fur that reaches to her mid-calf, though she usually doesn’t wear this if it is warm outside.
Character Concept
Ever since early childhood, Aiya has been a very trustworthy and responsible person, and always was very mature for her age. When she says she is going to do something, she doesn’t quit until it has been done, and has never broken a promise. Because of this, she was usually given more responsibilities than the other children in her hold, but she was never one to complain. However, she was also born with an intense curiosity, often getting her into trouble or uncomfortable situations. No matter how hard she tries, if she sees something that piques her interest, she eventually ends up investigating it. She is very independent, but also quite head-strong. Aiya is neither talkative nor quiet, though she usually isn’t one to start conversations. She is very patient and rarely loses her temper, and is always willing to help anyone in need. However, Aiya has a tendency to trust people too easily. This makes her a bit vulnerable, though a small amount of training in auristics helps her a bit.
Ethics:
Aiyana is always willing to help someone in need, no matter what race they are or how they first appear. She was raised to believe that everyone had some amount of good in them, as her grandmother once said “No matter how dark person may seem, there is always a spark of light inside of them.” She is very opposed to any kind of slavery.
Likes:
Aiya loves carving and sculpting. She is happiest when she is creating new, beautiful items from things as normal and everyday as a piece of wood, a fragment of bone or a clump of clay. She also loves listening to stories about other cultures and regions. Aiya has always wished she could travel to the places she has heard about (except for maybe Falyndar).
Dislikes:
Aiya hates it when people act pompous and believe that they are above others because of their race or appearance. She dislikes violence, though she will defend herself if necessary, though it probably won’t do much good considering how small she is. Aiya also is annoyed when people think she can’t do something because of he size or gender.
History
Aiyana was born on the 21st of Fall, 495 AV to Katja (her mother) and Markus (her father) of the Skyglow hold. She was her parent’s first-born child, and they considered her a miracle. Katja and Markus had been having difficulties conceiving a child, with several miscarriages before Aiya came. Her mother was 25 when she was born. Because of this, for the first four years of Aiyas life she was spoiled greatly by her parents and grandparents. When Aiya turned three years of age she showed talent in the areas of carving and sculpting, and immediately her family encouraged her talent, teaching her as much as they could.
A short while before Aiya turned four, Katja found she was pregnant once again, and the family was overjoyed that another child would be soon joining the family. Aiya was especially excited that she would soon have a younger sibling to play with and teach, her eyes constantly a brilliant gold color. However, like many other of the previous pregnancies, there were many complications. Katja was very ill most of the time, and was confined to her bed so that she would not miscarry. Five months into her pregnancy, during a huge blizzard, Katja went into labor. Because of the severity of the storm, the midwife was unable to reach Katja in time. Both mother and the premature baby boy died, leaving the family grief-stricken. Markus became extremely protective of his only child, and disapproved of it when her curiosity led her outside of Avanthal.
To help take care of her, Aiyas grandmother, Freya, came to live with them. Freya was actually half Inarta, with vivid dark red hair, only just beginning to gray with age, giving proof of her heritage. Before settling down in Avanthal and marrying, Freya had traveled to almost every region of Mizahar, with the exception of Falyndar and the parts of Cyphrus where the Zith dwelled. Freya would tell Aiya amazing stories of her travels and about all the cultures and races she had met, and Aiya and her grandmother became very close, possibly closer than she had been with her own parents. This served only to fuel Aiyas curiosity about the world, which led to some arguments between her father and grandmother.
Freya helped to teach Aiya the crafts of carving and sculpting, as she was quite adept at this herself, as well as everything she knew about the regions of Mizahar, as she wanted for Aiya to someday see the world for herself. She also knew a bit of magic, which she had picked up on her travels. Freya was reluctant to teach young Aiya about magic, as it could be extremely dangerous to both others and the user herself. Aiya tried to persuade her grandmother for years, but always she would refuse. Finally, when Aiya was twelve, Freya agreed to teach Aiya the magic of Auristics, but on one condition: That she would never use what she learned to harm others, and only to defend herself. Aiya promised her grandmother, and for the next few years she learned the art of Auristics. Learning at first was quite difficult, and until after the first year Aiya was unable to use Auristics at all. Gradually, however, Aiya became better, until she was able to glean basic emotions and health from a person’s aura.
After three years, though, Aiyas training was cut short when Freya died unexpectedly at the age of 71. Aiya was left heartbroken, with her eyes rarely changing from a deep blue over the next few months. When she turned fifteen, she realized she only had a year left before, like most of the young Vanthan girls, she would be ready to be married. She saw that her father was already looking for a prospective husband for her. Her heart rebelled against the idea of being stuck in Avanthal for the rest of her life, and she remembered that her grandmother had always wanted for her to see the things she had told Aiya about in her stories for herself. Aiya knew her grandmother would not have approved of her moping around. She went to her father, her eyes gold flecked with dark orange showing her determination, and told him that she refused to be married until she had seen the world for herself. Markus, who had always been overly protective of Aiya, was horrified at the idea of his only daughter traveling Mizahar, what with the hundreds of dangers, including monsters and slavers, roaming the wilds. But he saw that no matter what he said, Aiya would find a way to fulfill her dream, even if it meant running away. Rather than estrange his daughter, Markus agreed to her journey, much to Aiyas surprise, and gave her the necessary supplies for the journey, including his horse Cadoc, an Avanthalian sleigh horse. Relieved that her father had approved of her plans, Aiya said her last good byes to her family, setting off on what she hoped would be the greatest adventure of her life.
Horse
Cadoc is an Avanthalian sleigh horse. His body is a solid pale brown color with a white star on forehead. His mane, tail and the fur on his hooves are a pure white, and he stands at 17 hh. Cadoc is a very intelligent horse and is quite good at navigating his way through Taldera after years of being ridden on hunts with Aiyas father, Markus. Cadoc is vey loyal and is excellent at navigating through difficult terrain despite his size, which is why Markus sent him with Aiya on her journey. Since Aiya had grown up with Cadoc he trusts her almost as much as Markus.
Eye Color Guide
Like all the Vantha, Aiyanas eye color changes according to her mood. Most of her moods have a set color, however depending on the shade of the color her mood could change. For example, scarlet means love while a darker red means she is angry. Also the color of her eyes deepens depending on the intensity of her mood (for example, if her eyes are a lighter blue then she is only somewhat sad, or disappointed, but if it is a very dark blue then she is miserable). Also, different colors sometimes mix to depict an entirely different emotion ( gold flecked with bright orange shows she is determined). This makes it difficult for someone Aiya has just met to really be sure of what mood she is in. Below is a basic guide to her eye colors and their meanings:
