Falling Skies
As the season of Fall descends upon Mizahar and as Syna relinquishes her station in the sky to Leth as light gives way to darkness, a wondrous sight befalls the land. In the night skies, throughout the season, a shower of lights can be seen in the sky. Streaks of light shoot across the sky; seen even through the heaviest of storms, thickest of fogs and deepest of cover. With this shower of light comes small explosions on the ground. Balls of fire strike the ground and form craters. For anyone brave enough to investigate these impacts, they find, in the center of the roughly 6 foot diameter, 3 foot deep craters, a rough, silvery stone that glimmers with an inner light even in the darkest of darks.
For those few who find it within themselves to step into the crater and touch or pickup the stone, it is roughly the size of a large coconut. It is cool to the touch with a rough, rocky texture. It is surprisingly light in weight and easy to lift and hold; easy to carry. The stone is impossibly hard however, so much that even an isurian arm cannot manipulate it. If tossed away or otherwise separated from the one who touched it, the stone returns a short time later.
The most dramatic aspect of the stone is that, upon touching it, a couple of bells later, said individual will experience something amazing or horrific, depending on the point of view involved.
So here is the challenge. Write about your encounter with one of the "fallen stars". Roll in Discord for results listed on the chart below. Whatever you roll, you must play out the effect in thread. This can be a single thread or multiple ones. Write about your encounter with the rock, how it affects you and how you live with it. The effects, good or bad, cannot be immediately "cured" by any means although you are welcome to write about your attempts at doing so. Are they permanent? Are they temporary? Your character does not know. Assume that they are permanent for the sake of this challenge. A followup to this event will be posted after the challenge.
In order to have an accepted entry into this challenge, you must write at least 2,000 words related to your discover of the rock and how it affects your character.
There will be awards for participating at the 2,000 word mark. Their will also be awards for every 1,000 words after the initial requirement. Finally, there will be three grand prizes awarded for those who have the highest word counts and who also acquire 5 points in a new or existing skill through the course of their experience with the rock.
Now for the affects:
1 - Sex Change (Male becomes female, female becomes male)
2 - Extra Limb (The limb dangles limply, occasionally mimicking the movement of other nearby limbs. The new limb sprouts from the target’s shoulder in the case of an arm or his hip in the case of a leg.)
3 - Horns (You grow a pair of small horns (4 inches each) on your forehead. Contrasting with your skin color. If covered by headware, they find a way to poke through.)
4 - 3rd Eye (You grow a 3rd eye on your forehead. As a result of this you act is if you had an Auristic skill of 5. If you already have Auristics, it is enhanced by 5 points.)
5 - Eyes Glow (The eyes burn with an inner light. The eyes serve as a light source of the intensity of a torch and can be of any color.)
6 - Aura of Warmth - You become noticeably warm to the touch. Although you feel severely warm, the heat is not great enough to physically damage either you or any other creature. It is still somewhat intense.
7 - Amnesia - (You forget who are and don't remember how you got to where you are.)
8 - Youth - (You physically become half of your age although mentality remains unchanged.)
9 - Growth - (You grow an extra foot in height and gain an extra 100 lbs of weight; this affects Kelvic animal forms as well.)
10 - Enticing Scent - (You exude an odor that is irresistible to others, regardless of gender or race. This doesn't mean that those who smell you lose control of their senses; they merely can't get enough of your scent.)
11 - Rotting Flesh - (Your skin begins to randomly rot in places resulting in a foul smell and an itchy discomfort around the rotting area.)
12 - Immense Strength - (Your strength doubles. You are capable of feats that were never before possible.)
13 - Profound Beauty - (You become the epitome of beauty for your gender and race. All around you will notice and respond appropriately.)
14 - Profound Ugliness - (You become the epitome of ugliness for your gender and race. All around you will notice and respond appropriately.)
15 - Isurian Touch - (You gain the ability to manipulate mundane, non-magical stone, wood and metal as if it were clay. If you are an isur, you can manipulate NON-mundane material. This does NOT include the ability to use Izentor or the ability to manipulate the special rock.)
16 - Kelvic Form - (You gain the ability to take on an animal form similar to that of a Kelvic. The form is limited to mundane animals the size of a wolf or smaller. If you are Kelvic, you are able to take on a secondary form.)
17 - Deathless - (You cannot die. No matter how severe the wounds are that you suffer, you will feel but a tiny bit of pain. Dismemberment results in growing a new limb; decapitation results in waking up a day later completely whole. However, wounds never fully heal. Cuts, abrasions and severing always results in extreme signs of trauma even though you can't feel it; varying degrees of scarring.)
18 - Icy Touch - (Your touch is icy cold. It is painfully cold to others and can freeze water in seconds; roughly a gallon over the course of a minute. Anything that comes in contact with your skin suffers the effects of frostbite almost immediately.)
19 - Love and Jealousy - (Complete strangers will find that they are completely in love with you while at the same time others will become jealous of the love you experience. Expect violent confrontations.)
20 - Starchild - (You are gifted with an ability equivalent of an L2 Gnosis from both Syna and Leth. One can see in a ten mile radius around them. Details are limited and are equivalent to those seen from a distance of 25 feet away. Details such as general facial features (anger, sadness, etc.), can be seen as well as larger written figures such as those on signs. Patterns in color and shape are more decipherable and finer details of race and gender can be seen.
The character is able to communicate mentally over a great distance they are within a ten mile radius centered on them. They can communicate with up to five other people through words and images as long as the receiving people are those they are familiar with (has met them before in person and they both would recognize each other upon meeting again) and are in the direct light of the moon. They can also receive mental communications with another. This is nothing like mind-reading however as the target chooses what they say in response. The target can only communicate back with words and nothing else. They can also add a stronger feeling to the words and images that are communicated that, while not capable of influencing the target, will be felt rather strongly. Again, this is meant to further enhance the nature of the communication. They cannot see who they are communicating with although they aware of the person's presence in the light of the moon and can recognize them as the ones they are trying to communicate with.)
This challenge begins at 9:00 PM Pacific Time Friday night (a little over 2 hours from the time of this posting) and will end 9:00 PM Pacific Time Monday Night.
