[The Great Bazaar] People and Places (Lilark)

The bazaar was a place of great importance to the boy, and, well, anyone and everyone who came here. It is the source of all neat little do-dads and trinkets and all sorts of interesting things. That and the more practical things like food, oh gods, lots of food, but the only problem was, well, one that Alabaster could find about this place, is that everyone cost money, usually lots. It was a fact that nothing in this world was free and it was a shame. It made him think he should not bother coming here at all, but rather settle with everything above this place. Though it was the allure of what could be found here that seemed to drag him back to this place. He could really use some free whatever right now. From blankets, sheets, to even some new ink and a quill, his list of wants was great, but his needs, as always, was just a little bit more important than his wants.

Today was going to be a day of preparation and admiration. He had been waiting for this day for a while, one that, he will finally get the gull to actually try and stock up on supplies he would need for a three or four day excursion out into the wilderness in look for adventure. It would be the first time, really, sense his father ‘left’ this world. He was looking forward to it, but thoughts kept creeping back to him, could he really do it alone? He knew the dangers of the wild, from experience as a kid traveling with his father, the stories his dad would tell him, and the entries in the journal that his family left behind. Though he felt for sure he knew of –some- of the dangers he was sure more lurked in every shadow, unheard of…

He tried to push those thoughts out of his mind as he began to think about all that he had yet to get, and as he thought of it all he wondered if it was a good idea after all. Maybe he should wait a little bit, just a little longer, to make sure he really was prepared. Yes, staying in the city sounded nice, but not what he wanted. A little adventurous in his wants, he knows full well some of them can’t and most likely won’t come true, but it never hurts to dream and be driven by those dreams. Impossibility is just a word, a concept, that he really had no grasp for, nor did he really care for the word. He would one day find something important and then be someone important. He was sure of at least that. How he would or what that something would be and what and how it would change him were all little details that were kindly, in a most epic fantasy kind of sense, left out until he would encounter them himself.

Passing various stalls that sold many things he stopped at a one selling blankets. He could use another blanket but was unsure if he really wanted to pay for it. The money he had right now was the only money he had for a while, though he was looking for a job, one wasn’t really finding him. That was no reason not to give up, if life were easy where would all the adventures be? That was one of his favorite quotes of all time, and he agreed with it. He nodded at the warm looking blankets as he passed them. Now confused by himself and his conflicting thoughts he took to the task of not looking for supplies anymore, but his other favorite hobby, people watching, and looking for an interesting one to talk to.

So he would walk the bazaar and smile to himself looking over the people like a silent judge, but he wasn’t really judging them harshly, just on their interestingness. Lots of things go into this little judgment. Such as looks, the way the person walks, what he or she is carrying, eye color, just basic first impression stuff, but the most important aspect is personal taste, and he must admit he has a rather exotic taste in people. The wilder looking, the more untamed, the more irregular they were the better, among other things…
