Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Hatot gave a silent nod as he stepped over, picking up his cloak. “I should bring my students with me. The physical labor will do them good as part of their training.” Hatot said, glancing around for a short moment as he slipped his cloak on over his shoulders.

He then took another look at the work that had been done so far, curious as to how he manage to construct something that wasn’t falling over with a stiff wind. He then slowly began making his way back towards Sanctuary, his feet falling lightly along the ground as he rubbed grime and dirt from his hands somewhat before even reaching the water basin for cleaning.

Despite his usual physical regiments, his shoulders and back especially felt a little taught. He had been working at this for the better part of the day and had, on occasion, forgot to practice proper body mechanics. He would pay for it more during the following morning, but it was nothing he wouldn’t be able to contend with in the long run.

Please, do not upset me. I would hate to unintentionally rip your throat out in a fit of rage.

As Teahvan watched the workers retire for the night, he decided this was another opportunity to practice his geomancy skill while helping to provide shelter for horses. Someday he would learn to ride these wonderful creatures, but for now he would just admire them and their auras from a distance.

Teahvan ate some trail food as he waited for evening to fall. The extra food would help to rejuvenate the Res he would expend this night. As the light faded away into dusk Teahvan formulated where he would allocate his Res so as not to overgive while accomplishing as much as possible this night. First he would use his Sight (as he referred to his Auristic Ability) along with geomancy to reinforce the posts of the shelter in their anchoring to the earth, then as he had time he would dig the holes for the posts of the corral. He didn't know enough about construction to place the posts properly, but he could reinforce properly built work to help it last longer. Too bad his Shielding hadn't advanced to the point of him being able to leave lasting shields in place to strengthen the rest of the structure.

Teahvan wished he had a better library of glyphs to work from, as they would augment his work here tonight. If wishes were horses there wouldn't be any room for the buildings around here.

With the help of Sight, Teahvan was able to tell when the area was as clear of other life as it was likely to get. His sight wasn't advanced enough for him to differentiate one type of life from another, other than by the size of its aura.

Teahvan approached the structure and, with his Sight, examined the base of the first post. With his knowledge of Geology and his Reimantic affinity for earth; Teahvan satisfied himself that he could strengthen the anchorage of these posts. Since quiet was the operative word for tonight, Teahvan extended his Res out through the palms of his hands as he placed them upon the tamped down dirt around the post. The Res began to sink into the earth. By changing a minute portion of the Res to elemental earth Teahvan began to contract the dirt into a more compact form, thereby strengthening the hold of the earth on the post. Teahvan began to notice a problem; the compacted earth took up less space, leaving the earth sunk into the hole instead of slightly mounded around the post! Now where was he going to get more dirt to even this out?

After a bit of thought, Teahvan had the answer; Dig the holes for the posts for the corral and use that dirt to finish off the area around the posts of the structure. He would worry about the dirt needed for the posts for the corral later. As he counted the posts of the structure, 14 in all, he hoped he would gain enough dirt to finish the structure.

Using his Sight, Teahven found the difference in the aura of the land, where the man had marked the ground for the first post of the corral to be dug in the morning. Taking a moment to focus his Res again, while changing a bit to Elemental Earth to attract the dirt, Teahvan began the slow and hopefully quiet process of removing dirt from the ground, forming it into a ball (for easier transport) and moving the dirt back to where the first post had been worked on. Now repeating his earlier process of compacting the earth, Teahvan finished his first post. To his Sight the compacted earth around this post and the tamped earth around the other posts was glaringly different; hopefully under regular sight it wouldn't be noticed.

After each set of two posts were finished, having the dirt compacted to an almost stone-like density; Teahvan would take a few minutes to drink some water and eat a little trail food. Unfortunately for Teahvan, a set of two posts was taking over an hour to do. Morning would most likely arrive before Teahvan had finished and had a chance to slip away before the workers from yesterday would arrive to finish this project.

Kavala came out to check their previous nights work just as the sun was rising. She'd forgone her usual run on the beach because she'd anticipated a great deal of work to be done today involving the physical to get the new barn up and stable. They'd raised the walls the night before and had laid out the groundwork for the corrals, but she knew digging the post holes would tax on everyone the next morning.

Kavala stopped though when she saw the additional work and studied the newcomer with surprise and a slight anxiety. She didn't know him and didn't know what he was doing helping them with the project. She assumed it was him, for no one else was about and there was no one at Sanctuary that could mold dirt to rock as easily.

"Hello there. I'm Kavala....I... what are you doing here?"
The Konti said, walking awkwardly over to the nearest arena post and leaning on it. She looked like she'd be more comfortable off her feat because she was very pregnant and had a slight worried look about her face.

Still focusing on the second post of this final set, Teahvan hadn't been aware of Kavala's approach until she spoke. "Hello there. I'm Kavala....I... what are you doing here?"

Startled by her, seemingly, sudden appearance and forgetting to dim his Sight, Teahvan glanced up at Kavala to be shocked by her Auristic appearance. The swirls of color flowing around her body were a wonder to behold. The area around her physical body was a bright royal blue, with an interior layer of bright green, and white sparkles around her abdomen. Her head was multicolored with violet on top shading into indigo on the lower part. Remnants of indigo and blue were still emanating from her mouth, suggesting anxiety.... The flow of color and trickles of information Teahvan was receiving was causing his head to throb; he quickly dimmed his Sight as far as he was able and looked at Kavala with his normal vision while ordering his thoughts to respond.

At 6' 6" Teahvan wasn't the smallest of people even when kneeling next to a post. Feeling WAY out of his element, Teahvan sat back, to appear as nonthreatening as possible, and in a rush tried to answer her question.
My names is Teahvan, I was just trying to give the horses a solid home. I thought I could finish and be gone again before causing any trouble as a stranger. He finished nervously.

{I wonder if pregnancy is what those sparks mean} he thought to himself. {Maybe I can find an Auric library soon to prove it.}

Kavala was amazing to look at even with normal sight. Noticing her pregnancy, Teahvan wished he was better at Reimancy so he could form a nice sitting spot for her to rest her body, while she dealt with this irritation, as he so viewed himself. With his now dusty appearance, and his intruding on her land, Teahvan waited for her response with trepidation.

She watched the stranger warily for a moment, indeed anxious because humans had proven themselves not exactly trustworthy to her in the past. But as he explained and as her eyes gazed over the work he'd done, she slowly relaxed and nodded too him. Walking over to one of the posts, she tested it carefully by leaning against it and then smiled genuinely.

"You do good work, Teahvan. Thank you for this. The horses that are coming here, that this is being built for, are from Ravok and slightly violent. I build it less for them than for the protection of others here. This really helps ease my mind that we will all be safe here with them present. Bloodbanes are interesting animals, valuable, but not always safe." She explained.

Kavala didn't ask him how he knew they were barn building. Riverfall was the biggest little city where everyone knew everyone else's business, especially what the strange Nakivak who lived outside of town was doing. "Thank you for the help. I wish I could hire you full time. We plan to do a lot of expanding downwards, but it won't happen until Spring or Summer. You wouldn't be looking for a permanent place would you?" She asked curiously, completely unaware he was using auristics.

The fact was she was accustomed to be stared at by men lately. It wasn't for her appearance in the traditional sense, but rather for her swollen abdomen which was rare in Riverfall, especially one bound by a Nakivak's bracelet that marked her as a breeder. Some Akalak somewhere was about to be a father and that's why they stared. They never saw her for herself, only for what she could do for the race.

Kavala moved forward and offered the man her hand for a traditional shake. "Where you from? Here? There's some food up at the clinic if your hungry. You look like you've been at this half the night." She said, wondering if he was a neighbor or resident of Riverfall.

Kavala was a treasure; both in appearance and in her dealing with people; though she did not seem to realize it. As Teahvan grasped, and gently shook, her offered hand, he wished he knew more about Konti physiology and massage to ease her physical discomfort as easily as she had eased his mental and emotional distress.

I was born and raised in Lhavit and have spent the past 9 years travelling, attempting to find a home.

The peacefullness of this place, or possibly this woman inflecting his words; Teahvan paused to stare wistfully around Sanctuary. Returning his gaze to Kavala, he continued,

I still need to visit Wind Reach, the birth place of my mother. I thank you for the offer. This feels like a good place; do not let anyone change this place too much.

{This place and this woman feel right, but I need to understand my heritage before I can give myself to anyone or anywhere. Maybe this place just feels so right because I have never found such a place before.}

Teahvan got up and brushed himself off; as he shouldered his pack he prepared to move on before this place and this woman claimed him. The place and woman seemed so right, but he would never be able to give of himself the way he felt he needed too; until he had, at least, visited Wind Reach.

She didn't let him leave, not with only a simple thanks, just like that. It would be owing him, and that was something Kavala would not do no matter how grateful she was. The Konti was already in enough debt to people she couldn't pay off fast enough.

So instead, she shook her head as he shouldered his pack and quietly took his hand. Kavala was konti enough to know that most gentleman wouldn't refuse her, and besides, his pack looked light. With a softly spoken sentence... "Come with me a moment... and then you can go if you must." She lead him towards the main building. They walked through the gates and passed the main arena and up onto the Veranda. She pulled a chair out for him, urging him to sit, and then checking on Tasival she began to gather some supplies for him.

"It sounds like you have a long journey ahead. And I'm grateful that you helped, so let me at least help stock you up for that journey." Kavala said. She gathered a set of worn saddlebags and began packing them with all the food she could muster. Two loaves of bread, a large wheel of cheese, and a large quantity of fruit that was still fresh from the fruit trees they'd planted around Sanctuary. Then she gathered some parchment, a pen and ink, and began carefully drawing on the parchment. Glyphs, one after another filled the pages, carefully depicting a rearing horse. The trigger she left as 'heal' and then when she was done she set the pages aside, tapped her gnosis, and filled each glyph with her various healing energy. One was for cuts, one bruises and scraps, one for a broken bone, and one for minor illness like a head cold. She labeled them all carefully for what they were, rolled them after she'd sanded them dry and then carefully showed him how to use them.

"If you break a bone on your trip, read this word ... "heal" from this, and the magic .. Rak'keli's gnosis, will come pouring out and set your bone. It will be sore, but you'll be able to function with it." She instructed. Then, once the yvas bag was all packed up she lead him back out to the arena.

There she removed a mare from her stall, slipped a yvas on her, and secured the bags to the mares back. Adding a headstall with reins, she handed the reins to Teavhan. It was a dark chocolate mare with a long blond mane and tail.

"Take good care of her. She's a sweetie. Her name is Spark and shes from Kalea so she should do well on the trip. If you don't know how to ride, she'll help you learn. She's also boat savvy so you can get her across the Suvan no problem. Once across you'll need someone to ride. And since you are coming back, just bring her back when you do."
Kavala said softly, her expression and tone brokered no argument.

Thanking Kavala for this amazing gift, Teahvan fished in his pack for one of his few personal Tokens; though this one was without power and still rough in texture, the underlying animals, patterns and colors were still visible.

I know your gifts are very precious, yet an attempt at balance. Please accept this Token as a thought towards future friendship. I will return in a few seasons time; If you return the Token then, I will move on, If you keep it I shall stay to support and defend this place until such time as you return the Token to me.

The Token was shaped like a disk 4" across, made of some form of transparent crystal with a backing of an unknown white metal; the whole weighing about 5 lbs. There was a 1/4" border around the edge with various glyphs carved into it. Inside this border, the bottom half of the disk was of green crystal shaped in the outline of a howling wolf with the symbol of elemental earth on either side, while the top half was a clear crystal shaped in the outline of a gyrfalcon with the symbol of elemental air on either side.

After giving the Token to Kavala, Teahvan shouldered his pack, gathered Spark's reins in his left hand and began walking towards Kenash and later Syliras. Hopefully to return within two years time.
