Weekend Challenge (28/29/30/1) - June/July

Postby Crylon Stonecraft on June 29th, 2019, 10:26 pm

Signing Crylon up for this. Will be working on incomplete solos/job threads from prior seasons, hoping to knock out at least 1 or 2 though who knows maybe I'll get them all done!

Thread: Magic is Music
Lesson: Crylon learns of ignoring distractions to do magic, how bad he is at rhyming, and of his own internal magic forge. Also that his internal magic store is in the form of a mine shaft full of grains of onyx sand.
Words: 535+599+582+468+477=2,661
-2,500- Yes

Thread: To Break in a Smithy
Lesson: Crylon breaks in the newly built smithy by making the first item on it. Learns of making a fire poker in practice, and a few new techniques he had not tried out before with blacksmithing.
Words: 641+549+560+527+660= 2,937
-2,500- Yes

Total Words: 5,598

Weekend Challenge (28/29/30/1) - June/July

Postby Vasin on July 2nd, 2019, 2:08 am

Character's Name: Vasin
Lesson:
Vasin learns that the customer is always right, and that while it may seem silly to him, it benefits the client to placate them at times. Whether or not the client is paranoid doens't matter, what does matter is they are paying you to protect them. Vasin also learns that maybe not everything is as it seems in the stories behind these jobs. Things should be taken with a grain of salt. Its not like when he was a debt collector, going in and just getting what is owed. There is a lot more gray area involved with what you know and dont know sometimes. Though it can be very subtle.

Hi folks!

We're extending to Friday night 9pm to give some of those a chance to add to their word counts and clean up those placeholders and old job threads. This means, instead of just awarding cash for word count, I'll bump the whole thing up to unique prizes for word count tiers.

Stay tuned. I'll have everything up by Saturday Morning, but you do have more time!

Weekend Challenge (28/29/30/1) - June/July

Postby Gossamer on July 6th, 2019, 3:41 pm

Hello Everyone!

Here's the list of prizes from last week's competition. As I hinted at before, you are more than welcome to straight out convert your word count to cash! What you need to do is give yourself 100 GM for every 1000 words you wrote, and you can break it down into smaller change if you want. Thus if you wrote 5000 words, you get 500 gold! That's a significant chunk of change since its more than most PCs average in a season of income.

These are the people that reported posts and word counts.

Ines – 3,002
Vasin – 3,311
Lani – 3,408
Calla – 3,511
Rohka – 3,626
Nylah – 5,249
Crylon – 5,598
Quzon – 5,840
Anya – 6,295
Kelski – 8,573
Kamila – 10,661

But... because we extended the competition out, we had a fantastic turnout! And that means I was motivated to create magical prizes too. So, you can now take that cash you've won and spend it in our mini prize store below.

They are all food related items or things that will keep you comfortable and warm. You can only use coin earned in this endeavor, and not outside coin. You can buy multiple items, and singular items multiple times and keep your change! Let me know in a post below what you are going to get!

As always, items must be acquired in thread. They cannot be traded, given away, sold, etc. They belong to you and exclusively to you. :)

Rodent Trap - 10 GM

This three slot magical rodent trap gets the vermin EVERY time. It doesn't need baiting and has an incredible lure that mice and rats can't resist. The holes fit the size of the rodent magically every time a rodent approaches. And when it sticks its head in the hole to see what smells so delicious, a snare slips around its neck and as it jerks back to escape, the little critter's life ends. This device can single handedly keep a building free of vermin. Multiple devices like this can make castle living a breeze. These traps need cleaned out daily.

Crawfish Trap - 25 GM

Mmmmm. Everyone loves crawfish stew and jambalaya. These tasty little critters are all over swamps, marshes, salt flats, lakes and fresh water streams. They can provide a tasty easy meal if one has one of these traps. The trap never needs baited. Crawfish of significant size to be nutritious and meaty can't resist them. Babies and immature crawfish are not attracted to these traps. These traps do need to be checked daily or they will overflow and cause a mass of crawfish to gather around them.

Image

Lobster Trap - 50 GM

Much like the crawfish trap, the lobster trap is best used tossed off a dock, rocks, or dropped from a boat attached to a float. It never needs baited and must be checked once a day. The trap can and usually does hold multiple lobsters if left in the water long enough. Lobster find it irresistible.

Crab Trap - 50 GM

Much like the crawfish and lobster trap, the crab trap is best used tossed off a dock, rocks, or dropped from a boat attached to a float. It never needs baited and must be checked once a day. The trap can and usually does hold multiple crabs if left in the water long enough. Crabs find it irresistible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Desirable Fish Trap - 75 GM
The fish trap is wonderful for streams, rivers, lakes, and even the ocean. It never needs baited and can be tossed into the water attached to a rock or staked to a pole. It never needs baited and must be checked once a day. The trap can and usually does hold multiple fish if left in the water long enough. Fish of all desirable edible types find it irresistible, while poisonous or bony or even unpalatable fish avoid it at all cost so its harvest is indeed selectively efficient.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Magic Pie Cozy - 100 GM

Once per day, if left clean and empty, a pie will manifest in this pie cozy. The pies will be edible for as long as they are kept in the cozy without decay or rot. The pies might be cream, fruit, or even nut. A rare chocolate pie might occur. Pies appear once a day once the cozy is empty. If pie is left in the cozy, it will simply keep it in a preserved state until it is consumed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image
Food Dehydrator - 150 GM
Any food suitable for dehydration (fruit, flesh, etc) can be laid in this item and it will automatically dehydrate the food items perfectly in the perfect amount of time. Food items still need to be prepared for dehydration. That means meat must me marinated and candied fruit coated in sugar. However, once laid in the Food Dehydrator, the magic of the device takes over and perfectly preserves the food. Jerky and ration bars made from this device are particularly tasty.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Hanging Firepit - 200 GM

While not a good thing to cook over due to the difficulty of suspending things over it, this hanging firepit never needs fuel and lights and warms the area around it the same way a similar fire would. No one needs to tend the fire all night long and there will never be worries of the fire spreading and lighting a shelter or camp on fire. It is activated with a word 'ignite' and deactivated with a word 'douse'. The same wood always remains in the fire, and while it seems to burn when the fire is lit, it never is consumed and is ready to be 'ignited' again the next usage.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image
Free Flowing Flask - 250 GM
This magical flask is special. It's always discovered empty and once filled, will produce whatever it is filled with endlessly. Thus, if the flask is filled with clear cold water, it will always have clear cold water in it. If it is filled with hot wine, it will always have hot wine. It can never be emptied and the product put in it can never be changed. This flask can handle all sorts of things from broth to blood to water and very fine liquors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Tabletop Brazier - 300 GM

This room warmer never needs fuel and lights with the single word 'ignite' and can be extinguished by the word 'extinguish'. It will never start a fire outside of its own bowl because of its magical nature. It can be left unattended safely. This warmth will heat a thousand square feet (regardless of the outside temps) to a comfortable stable 70 degree in just a few short chimes. The area it heats must be all on the same floor. The same coal-like gems remain in its bowl unconsumed use after use.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image
The Ever-ready Feedbag - 500 GM
This magical feed bag slips over the nose of a typical grazer and adjusts to fit the animals size. It will magically manifest the animals favorite grain foods and provide one serving of this grain three times a day. It can be used on multiple animals the three times a day, but never at the same time. Its usage is limited by the time it takes the animal to feed verses the amount of time in a day. It can handle horses, mules, goats, okomo, deer, elk, and any other hoofed animal such as a cow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Bala’s Cauldron - 500 GM

This lovely cauldron will produce one elaborate stew or soup once a day with someone simply inserting a spoon into its depths of the appropriate size and pretending to stir while reciting the words 'I am grateful for Bala's Bounty.' The soups or stews are always vegetarian, but very nutritious. The cauldron is big enough to feed 20 people hearty helpings and it will self clean if its contents have been emptied. Excess food saved from the cauldron will vanish the following day as long as the cauldron is reactivated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Image
Food Preservation Chest - 500 GM
This magical chest is as described. Anything that is placed in its depths will be perfectly preserved. Meat, cheese, fruit... any sort of food will not decompose and be as fresh as the day is long when the chest is opened again - even if years have passed. The chest is large enough to hold a large elk or deer, boar, or even a human corpse. Because some unusual things are considered 'food', often things like fresh cut flowers and grains can be stored safely in this chest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Image

Party Provision Chest - 700 GM

This large sized chest will manifest enough food and drink to feed 30 people once per day. The liquid will come in the form of small kegs of water or alcohol, while the food will be decently crafted travel provisions of jerky, cheese, bread and fruit if the owner has no cooking skill or only novice cooking skill. If the chest is owned by a person with competent cooking or above, the contents that will manifest will be ingredients for meals and a recipe for cooking them. The recipes may be saved and will come from all over the world and are often of a festive nature. These ingredients will decay as per normal food.
