Then: As a child, Zibriah was impulsive, charming, and seemed to have inherited a love of and talent for storytelling from her Vantha father. Though relatively harmless, her youthful exploits gave her much occasion to practice talking her way out of trouble - and the more often she successfully eluded punishment, the more confident she grew. Riverfall was her playground, and Zib took for granted that the ease of life in the Akalak city was representative of life everywhere. So, Morwen's abandonment and the subsequent bounty on Vantha claimed her parents' lives, and forced her to abandon her childhood home, the young woman was in no way prepared for life alone and on the run.

Now: As a child, Zib had often lamented the fact that her eyes did not shift colors as her father's did, that her hair did not shimmer with the same iridescence - his characteristic features had been fascinating to his daughter. Now, though it feels like a betrayal to his memory, she can't help but be grateful that the Vantha in her blood has no outward manifestations. Still, she plays to her mother's heritage whenever possible; the bronze skin and large eyes of the Benshira were passed to her, and although her eyes are an entirely inappropriate green instead of rich brown, the effect is convincing enough. Although she bears no telling mark from the absent winter goddess, Zib's most pressing fear is that her heritage will be discovered and she will be forced to flee anew - or be put to death for being the child of a hated Vantha.

Next: Zibriah has come to Zeltiva hoping to further her education and earn enough coin to travel on to Syliras in search of her brother. When the two fled Riverfall after their parents' deaths, they did not leave together and the only clue Zib has of his whereabouts are his adolescent wishes to become a knight..

Zibriah

Pre-History
As with all children, Zibriah's story must begin with that of her parents. Farah was Benshira, and a devout and faithful one. Her life was clearly mapped out for her: days spent weaving fabric from the hair of her family's herd of goats, evenings spent in praise and prayer to Syna, Yahal, and Rhaus. The evenings were her favorite part of the day: the family would gather, with whatever instruments and stories happened to be at hand, and the entertainment would be uplifiting, spiritual, inspiring. Farah would often join in the performances, her flute adding a singular lilting quality to the songs of her people.

Aliterius Snowsong was a performer, through and through. His Vantha heritage had gifted him with an innate talent for entertaining, storytelling, performing for the joy of whatever crowds he could find. At a young age he chanced to experience a performance by a theatre troupe wintering in Avanthal. He was entranced, and eager to travel alongside them, learning from them... And so, when The Inverted left Avanthal in the Spring of 481AV, young Aliterius left with them. The troupe surely expected the young man to grow weary of the constant traveling, and indeed made efforts to ensure his time on the road was filled with (mostly) harmless pranks guaranteed to cause him discomfort. But Aliterius was committed to his path and stayed with the troupe as they journeyed, eventually entering the desert lands of the Benshira.

Farah was immediately fascinated by the troupe, specifically by the jovial, dramatic young man with the intriguing shifting eyes. Despite the stigma, and the shame it could potentially bring to her and her family, she found herself drawn to the Vantha. Aliterius, likewise, found the desert beauty and her joy for music and song to be an irresistible temptation and soon turned his efforts to wooing her - subtly, so as not to offend his hosts, but persistently. He was rewarded and she was doomed when, as The Inverted were preparing to leave the desert, he persuaded her to join him on the road.

Unsurprisingly, abandoning her home and her way of life and adapting to life on the road proved too much of an adjustment for Farah. She fell into despondency, no longer taking joy in the music that she had once loved, and slipping into a depression that worried Aliterius and distracted him from his duties to the troupe. The decision was made that he and Farah would part from the troupe when they reached their next destination: Riverfall. Aliterius and Farah stayed behind when The Inverted left, and adjusted to their new life in the city. Eventually children were born, and the two were overjoyed parents, delighted to pass on the best parts of their respective cultures to a boy, and then a girl.

And then Winter left the land. Morwen, mother of the Vantha, withheld her wintry touch from the land, causing fear and panic, as well as climate changes. Aliterius' eyes, always one of Farah's favorite features, quickly marked them as targets. Before the Snowsong family could adjust to the change in attitudes, their once-friendly neighbors in Riverfall began to turn on them. The conflict came to a head not long after, as a mob of Akalak and other residents came to run the family out of town - the confrontation quickly turned violent, and Aliterius and Farah were killed. Zibriah and her brother fled, although not together.

Zibriah hid, escaping the mob through luck or divine intervention, and in the cold light of early dawn, managed to convince (with the aid of most of the mizas her family possessed) a merchant ship to give her passage to anywhere else. That first journey ended in Kenash, where she stayed just long enough to earn the coin for the next leg of her journey, and in the summer of 519av, she arrived in Zeltiva.
