"Speech"
A wry smile twitched at the corner of Zach’s mouth at Lani’s comment - of course Madeira did know everyone. The Spiritist always appeared to be one step ahead of the rest of the city. However, the next words from the dark-eyed woman set an uneasy feeling to unravelling in his stomach. A trap indeed. Though it didn’t feel much like a trap to him, now the possibility had been voiced…
His thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of Dev’Ania, and he smiled at the Konti before shuffling along the bench a little to give her room to sit next to him, passing her the note as he did so.
Then the voice cutting through the silence behind the group put paid to any further conversation. This was not a voice he recognised, and as the owner of it strode forward into the circle, Zach fixed his eyes on the unfamiliar figure. He couldn’t distinguish anything about her that would tell him her age or where she was from. As it was, the hunter missed the glint of her mark, his brow furrowing a little as the stranger began to speak in earnest.
Zach squirmed internally as she spoke of mages, Madeira being her first focus. The Drykas knew of her work of course - he was the one who supplied her materials. But hypnotism? That was something he had never heard of before. Lani next, though he understood she was not a mage, she knew… well something. Zach averted his eyes from the woman as she moved to sit, but his name never left her lips. The Drykas was not known to her. He felt relieved though he was not sure why - Zach had assumed that people would be able to tell if someone had some sort of magical ability - aside from hearsay or witness, but apparently not.
Zach had always been slower to piece together puzzles and mysteries than others. His mind was much more of a practical one. And so it was news to him that this woman had been the one who had left marks all over the city, outing the mages for all to know. But she denied the killings - they were, apparently, the work of someone else. The drop of information she then gave was a name. Ponrose.
The hunter tried to sort the information out in his head. He wasn’t good at these sorts of things. He liked straightforward and direct. Luckily they had Madeira and her clever, clever mind. And of course, she was the one to address this woman - Sapphire. Zach nodded at the Spritists words. Lhavit was a city worth protecting, why else would they all be here? However her question set the frown right back onto his brow. The Inverted? Who, and what were they? Clearly Madeira thought that this person was one of them - perhaps she had seen something to tell her so that Zach had been oblivious to.
It seemed Madeira was correct in her accusation, though the reply from Sapphire confused him even more, and the idea of more ‘Inverted’ visiting Lhavit left him feeling nervous, though he had no idea why. Zach had many questions, but mostly due to his own lack of knowledge that others seemed to possess, so he didn’t voice any to the stranger.
As Sapphire took her leave of the group, Zach watched her straighten, only to jump to his feet when the person that looked at them now wore a different face. Before he could move any further, Sapphire turned and vanished, leaving Zach to gape after him. What sort of person could change their face?! Was it something to do with these ‘Inverted’?
“What on Mizahar is an Inverted…?” Zach's words were mostly mumbled to himself as he turned back to face the rest of the group, hoping his features didn't convey too much of the confusion he felt.
