For most residents of Syliras, their needs are met. There is no homelessness, a home for orphans, and the strategic location of Syliras and their maintenance of the only road allows for the taxing of caravans for food and money. For some, they don't have the basic skills they need in their day-to-day lives. This is where the Needle comes in. The Needle provides donated clothing and classes on mending clothing, cooking, and even etiquette. All of their programs are free, but participants are highly encouraged to volunteer their time as a way to contribute back to the charity. The suite of rooms that it takes up are located close to the Great Bazaar, a spot chosen for the ease of acquiring leftover or unwanted goods from the stalls and vendors. Charity : The Needle accepts donations, including used clothing in fair or better condition, and almost any sort of food. As long as it isn't ruined or spoiled, they will take it and use it. Even clothing that is falling apart will be cut up and used as scraps for mending holes, or mended and given away. They also accept donations in Mizas. Likewise, anyone may come and receive clothing from the charity. However, no one gets to choose the appearance or quality of what they receive. If they request a shirt, they will get the first shirt that fits. Most day-to-day operations of the charity are run by volunteers, and those who receive assistance are heavily encouraged to volunteer as well. This can include mending clothing and sorting through donations as well as assisting with classes. Classes : All of the classes tend to include a range of participants from young girls hoping to impress future husbands, to squires and knights wishing to be more self sufficient, and everyone in between. Sewing and mending classes are held on every day that ends in 0. (10th, 20th, 30th, etc) These cover basic sewing techniques with a focus on repairing damaged clothing rather than creating new clothing. Once or twice a season there will be special classes in place of the usual class times that cover something more seasonal, such as knitting scarves in the winter. Cooking classes are held on every day that ends in 5. (5th, 15th, 25th, etc) Needy Needle cooking classes tend to be basic, often focusing on easy to cook stews, salads, or roasting meat. A few times a season there will be seasonal specialty classes, covering topics such as identifying edible flowers around Syliras and their uses. Some specialty topics that can be counted on are seasonal dishes from Kenash, Riverfall, or even more exotic places such as Konti Isle. Etiquette classes are held on the 28th, 58th, and 88th of every month. The etiquette classes tend to cover topics such as table manners, interpersonal etiquette, and even haggling. The class on the 58th is always on Syliras-specific etiquette. Travelers and the newly-immigrated are always recommended to attend. Note: Classes do not require ST approval to attend. She treats everyone she meets with respect, no matter their age or race. She has the ability to make anyone who speaks with her feel as if they are the most important thing in her life at that moment, and it would be difficult to find someone in the castle who has a bad word to say about her. There are rumors that she was once married, but that is the one question she will not answer.   Hailey Name: Hailey Race: Human DoB: Summer 498AV PoB: Kenash Title: Needy Needle Clerk Skills: Organization 50, Salvaging 40, Rhetoric 33, Cooking 30, Sewing 30, Singing 27 Gnosis: Audius 1 Additional Info: Hailey was born to free citizens of Kenash, but her family uprooted and moved to Syliras only a few years later. After relocating, they became close to Mama Marie after receiving much help from her in their transition. As a result, Hailey sought a job with the old woman, and after much bargaining became the only paid employee of the charity. She is a cheerful young lady, often humming or singing while she works, spending a great deal of time leading any volunteers or answering questions that people may have.
