Only a short distance into The Maw northwest of The Bungalows lies a very unique man-made lake. There is no river here, but instead, a series of streams through the jungle has been diverted into what is obviously a man-made basin of hardened stone. The lake - to the practiced eye - looks more like an emergency fresh-water storage facility than anything else as wildlife seems to avoid it like they simply don't notice it exists.
There have never been fish or other aquatic life found in the depths nor do plants grow in the waters. Trees that fall over into the lake simply seem to dissolve after a time. There is no organic layer at the bottom of the lake, only a clean smooth stone that looks shaped smooth, as if by magic. The settlers of Syka didn't in fact discover it until the Summer of 520 though they were close by the whole time. Waterbirds avoid it as well. However, the water is always crystal clear and drinkable.
At the southern end of the basin, the lake has a spillway that diverts overflow down and back into the multitude of streams it was grown from. A stone platform overlooks the basin near the spillway and makes the perfect observation tower. It is a good spot for picnics and birdwatching or simply to be alone. The lake is deep enough beneath the overlook that one can dive from the platform safely. In fact, all of Syka can swim in the basin if they want too, and if they do so they often come out feeling 'cleaner' than they would from a normal bath.
