While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Saving a Seer [Flashback]

It was turning out to be another bust watching for any travelers on Karbin road. Luke had to sit crouched hiding almost literally inside of a bush since sunset. He hardly got bored but this was ridiculous. At least during sunset you had things to look at and some vivid colors. At night there was nothing. This particular night was extremely dull. Nothing stirred, no travelers, not even animals. Their was almost no noise or movement what so ever.

Black storm clouds set at night and he hadn't seen the moon or its light since. His eyes had to deeply adjust before he was able to hardly see a thing. Navigating in the dark came easy after doing watch shifts so long. Because of the lack of light. For hours he and his two comrades Andrew and Vincent sat in almost near nothingness. Listening to the lack of noise. They couldn't even speak to one another. It was complete torture but you got used to the silence eventually. To a point it was calming compared to the chaos of the day. When ever someone got back from a watch they were always more rambunctious to make up for the silence.

It took him a long time before his joints wouldn't scream with pain at the end of a watch. To make matters worse if Kain caught anyone not hiding on watch they would be lashed horribly. This happened to Luke once and he wasn't planning on having a second serving.

Luke slowly turned his head towards Andrew who was lying in wait a yard away behind a clump of trees. Luke had to move slow to not rustle the bush he was in. The look they exchanged was one of painful boredom. He and Andrew always had a deeper connection than Vincent. Who was like a brother but didn't communicate on the same level as Luke.

They lipped a small conversation between each other. It was something all three of them practiced heavily after their first watch seeing it was so terribly dull. It was nothing special just small talk about the weather and anything they could think of to pass the time.

A small wind began to blow threw. Shockingly cold and smelt of oncoming rain. Even without the moon you could see the deep black clouds rolling across the sky. Both men had a disappointed look. They knew that rain would not only make things miserable but dangerous. Noises were blocked out and even carried in the rain. Their bows would be pretty much useless in the rain. They would be soaked and now at a disadvantage. Although Luke doubted anything would happen tonight.

Looking over at Vincent, Luke noticed his dorky grin and gave him a puzzled look. It wasn't long before he noticed and smiled back at Luke. Pointing upward and lipped rain with an excited look. His optimism was refreshing and made the situation a little better. He wasn't an idiot but when Vincent liked something. He liked it in any situation.

Luke simply smiled and made a motion for Vincent to keep his eyes peeled. Turning towards Andrew he did the same. He heard something, normally it wouldn't mean much. The night was typically filled with noise. Although since tonight had such a vacuum of noise. The cracking of a branch echoed threw the forest with a dull snap.
