Berus followed Darren down the dark pathway, slipping and sliding on the mud and slime that filled it and barely avoiding going headfirst into a patch of dangerously sharp rocks in one dark corner. He marveled at Darren’s ability to just plow through, noting that the man’s sense of purpose was propelling him almost as much as his legs were. The man was off rather quickly, leaving Berus to stumble about in the dark as he struggled to catch up. The unwieldy, long spear did nothing to help the poor bard.
It did manage to catch in every nook and cranny along the way however! If not for the fact that he was a bit agile from his attempts to learn ‘tricks’ that would awe an audience he would tripped over it countless times and tumbled down onto his back yet again.
Finally, Berus reached the group. The first thing he saw was, however, the dead body with its brains splattered against the hard stone of the ground! He instantly leapt backwards, spear coming up in what he considered a rough defensive stance and looked a bit more comical than he intended. However, when it finally registered in his mind that the zombie-creature couldn’t possibly still be able to move without its nervous system intact, he finally relaxed and looked around. He blew out a sigh at the same moment, rubbing his sweating forehead.
Darren stood over the body, as would be expected, with his boots covered in a disgusting material that he supposed must be the brains of the zombie-creature. Danyella, looking as if she had just fought the monster, was nearby with her two hammers in hand. Eisi had managed to pass him by and stood there as well, her white, elegant clothing marred by the slime and grime of the underground cave. Was I that slow? Berus thought sadly. Looking around the group, he felt for a moment as if he didn’t belong. Darren was a good warrior with some great hidden strength, Danyella had her deadly hammers, and Eisi was apparently some sort of Seer and looked as if she could her own in a fight.
Berus, however, was none of those things! Not even after all of his training! His shoulders sagged for a moment and he bowed his head, his eyes casting down to his boots. Though Eisi’s proclamation was dire, he was no leader when it came to these matters and he would have to leave the decisions to one more experienced in fighting.
He thumped his spear against the ground and his blue eyes shot back up to catch and hold Eisi, Darren, and Danyella’s gazes. “Danyella, Darren, Eisi, we need to get out of here as quickly as possible and alert Icewatch. I don’t think we’ll last much longer down here if what Eisi said is true…” He looked around for a moment. “But uh… Does anyone remember the way out? I made a few turns back there and I’m not sure which ones…” He smiled boyishly at the group, despite the situation.
