[Flashback] New Faces [Tshaka]

28th spring

28th Spring, 508 AV

It was almost midday, and the golden sun was reaching it's peak in the clear expanse of blue sky. Elisse was wandering Zeltiva like she sometimes did. She had been attending the University for coming up to a year now, so she was already familiar with the city streets. She would often be found scouring the shops for things to help her in her studies, mostly books. Though today it was more of a leisurely stroll.

Elisse hummed as she walked. It wasn't a particular tune, just some melody she may have picked up from somewhere in the University halls. She let her mind wander, making mental lists of all the books she might want to try and find at the library when she returned later. Of course, she wanted another Auristics book, and she was also considering something with some more difficult reimancy exercises. Not a lot of attention was being paid to the street in front of her, though luckily, there was nobody around for her to walk into.

Tshaka was working as a stevedore today, hauling cargo off if trade ships and delivering it to it's rightful place. There was a shortage of carts today due to a fleet of trade galleons coming in. So all of the smaller ships were being delivered by hand. Tshaka was currently delivering small crates of paper which was surprisingly heavier than she would have thought. Each weighed maybe twenty pounds and she was carrying three of them stacked atop one another. They were about three feet long, one foot wide, and one foot tall, and had leather handles on the long ends. Each set of arms was carrying one in front of her, and it was difficult but not impossible to see where she was going.

She was taking the paper to the University and was thankful that the streets in this part of town were empty for this time of day. She was keeping an eye on the location of the sun and the tops of buildings to determine her location as she traveled. Her arms and back were beginning to tire but she didn't mind. Her mind wandering as she walked down the street unknowingly on a collision course with a young woman.

Two people walking towards each other - both blissfully unaware of the other - was always going to be a recipe for disaster. It has happened to Elisse before a few times, the most recent ending in some broken glass and an undignified scramble not to stand on any of it. She should have learned her lesson by now, but evidently, she had not.

And so she walked straight into a very solid something. Whatever it was knocked her back, so she figured that it had been moving towards her. Staggering back, she tripped over her own feet and ended up on the ground. She had no idea if whatever- or whoever - she had collided with ended up the same way, but she thought she saw several pairs of arms as she fell. Maybe I hit my head or something...? Elisse rubbed her head and sat up, glancing round for the source of the collision.

Tshaka felt a thump against the front of the chests she carried. She then stepped on something that was not the road and slipped. Unbeknownst to her, as she dropped to one knee, her knee slammed painfully into the ground. She managed to keep her other leg up and bent. Her balance now compromised the chests began throwing their weight around, the junction of her legs hit something, thankfully protected by her breeches and bikini. The trunks struggled to topple forward, she lost a hand on the top most one. One end left the stack and swung downward in front of the others.

Tshaka suspected she had run into someone, and that the head of that someone may soon be hit by a swinging trunk. She grunted as she tried to right the hole mess as she straddled what she thought was the clumsy person. The trunks pulled her torso forward and slammed into the ground, putting her into a very awkward position, her rear sticking up in the air and her body forming an arch. After determining the chests were safely on the ground she let go of them and stood up, as a couple people stared at her. Her arms began dusting her self off checking her hair and reaching down to help up the collapsed pedestrian. Being in an unusually chipped mood, and believing this was probably her own fault, Tshaka held out her hand and said, " I'm so sorry, are you okay?" her mouth forming an awkward yet sincere smile.

Elisse watched, rather dumfounded as whoever she had bumped into struggled with what appeared to be three large crates. She squinted against the light, and made out the figure of a woman, though with more arms that usual. She rubbed her head again, though she was certain that she hadn't hit it. She was frowning up at the figure she could see, till something clicked. The woman was an Eypharian. Elisse had never met one before, but she knew a little about them.

When a hand appeared in front of her face, Elisse glanced up to see the woman smiling at her. Gratefully, she grasped the offered hand and let it help her up. A sheepish smile formed on her face. "Ah, um yes I'm alright." She looked at the crates stacked nearby. "I think it may have been my fault, I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going. I hope I haven't broken whatever you were carrying." She almost cringed at the thought of what could have been in those crates. She could only hope that it was nothing too valuable.

"Oh no pardon me," said an unusally polite Tshaka. She was in a good mood so maybe that's why she didn't explode like she normally would. "And don't worry bout the contents, I was told it was just paper, lots and lots of paper. University order." she began picking the crates back up, "What were you doing when we bumped into each other?" She picked up the second crate. "Does the library really go through this much paper every week?"

Her body glistened lightly in sweat as she picked up the third crate. She looked around, getting her bearings, "Well I've got to get this to the library, university always rushes it's order. It was nice meeting you, hope you aren't hurt." She began toward the university not knowing the library was elsewhere and not in with the rest of the university buildings.
