So basically, Don is a fully-fledged knight. I am looking for a squire for him, one I can train and mentor until the squire is ready to undertake the knighting quest themself. If interested, drop me a PM or reply here.

Cheers!

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Chevalier on June 15th, 2012, 6:47 pm

First off, hello Don and welcome to Syliras! Now let me say holy cow, what a response on the region wide quest. Clearly Syliras is going to be the super power here, as we should be :D! I'm going to leave the sign ups open for a week or so, in order for anyone who missed it or might have had a busy week to see it and get the chance to sign up. After that it's off we go! So, now is the time to start threading and gaining those skills you think might be useful in fighting the good fight and finding this fragment!

I'd like to talk a moment about threading and how it's accomplished. Sometimes new folks come to the site and they're pretty overwhelmed by all the lore and the information, as well as how to go about finding people to thread with. The best way to do it is either to mention here that you're interested in getting a thread partner (like Don has mentioned wanting to seek out a squire, so all of you squires looking for a Patron Knight, now is an excellent chance!) or PMing someone that interests you directly. You just say "Hey, I think your character is interesting, we might be able to have some fun threads together!" and there you go, you are on your way to getting a thread partner.

Pacing in a game like this is very important as well. Everyone has their own 'pace'. For my PC, I'm a 1-2 replies a day kind of guy, but I essentially reply every single day. Not everyone replies 1-2 times a day, and I know this, so I usually take on several threads in order to get my 1-2 replies a day that I seek. Other people might be 2-3 replies a day people, or even 4-5! Some people would rather only reply once a week, and that's fine. It's all about finding your pace, and if you feel you could handle a faster pace, feel free to make some more threads!

Welcome Desthemond, and welcome back Val'pold! Looks like a lot of activity is in store for Syliras' future, I'm very excited! More and more development is coming to the Epic Regional Plot, and now even Ravok has a sign up for it. Oooo, 'evil' counterparts! Good stuff. I'll make sure to have quests and potential fun things to do in Syliras as well for people who don't wish to take part in the quest, or whom just wish to stay in Syliras for the time being, so don't think you'll be left out.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Imass on June 19th, 2012, 11:43 pm

Hello friends,

I am a new player to the website and I am interested in playing a Syliran Knight. I am an Akalak from Riverfall. I am working on my character sheet right now. I just finished the history and physical description, but will finish soon.

How do I go about joining? I read the lore article on the knights, but other than the prereqs listed is there anything I must do RP wise? Do I need to post in a thread? How does this work? Is there a leader I should know about or talk to? Any information will be helpful...also please forgive me if I missed any information about this elsewhere.

Thanks

When it comes to the Knights you can start one of these ways. You can start as a regular person interested in joining the Knights and thus attempting to be recruited as a Squire. You can simply start as a Squire, and thus train so that you may one day become a Knight. You can start as an unranked Knight, however you must diligently work on the skills required each season until you've gotten them.

Thanks for the response Chevalier!

I would like to start off as an unranked knight. I am willing to work on the required skills listed on the lore, where do I go from here? Do I just write it into my history?

Yes. Typically there are two paths to Knighthood. Young folks that start as Pages, and then become Squires are raised by the Knighthood and a Patron Knight whom looks over them. When the time is right they are collected to meditate before the Windoak whom gives them their Knighting quest. The second way is adults whom decide to become Knights later in life. They still beome Squires, but are generally Squires for a much shorter time due to the knowledge and skills they've picked up living a longer life. They must go through the same Knighting quest as well.

For some reference, Human aged folks typically become Squires around 13 or so, and are ready for Knighthood by 18 or so.
