Hail Syliras!

We bring an announcement today since some players seemed to be unaware of how Syliras treat troublesome mages.

As some of you may know, Knights are very cautious of mages outside of the order (not Mage-Knights). All races are welcome in Syliras as long as they don't cause trouble, this extends to mages as well.

Magic is a very big thing and viewed with caution, the general Syliran populace think of mages as "Weird, scary, insane people with strange powers" so when one cast an obvious offensive spell (e.g Offensive Reimancy, summoning, leeching) as opposed to subtle or benign magics (e.g: Hypnotism, auristics, shielding) publicly and in the Fortress, one would face the consequences.

One can go around, casting magic, but one must RP out the repercussions when the Knights came. :)

There is some good stuff in the Grader thread, not that I'm suggesting that I'm going to be doing any of that in the near future, but it's good to get a mods view of the system here and I'm going to be going back through it in detail and attempting to apply some of the things in it to my own threads especially regarding the appropriate posts for skill levels which I don't think is adequately covered in anything I've read before.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Attention Citizens of Syliras!

I'd like to address something that has been slowly becoming more and more common amongst the threads I've been reading throughout the forum: The Knights.

In my tenure here as one of the assistant storyteller's I've seen players incorrectly portray Knights in several of their threads. While most of the threads have been overlooked due to the fact that they were completed and forcing players to go back and rewrite weeks worth of writing would have been both inconvenient and unfair given the general misconception, I will say this: it needs to stop.

Players are free to interact with Knighthood NPC's as much as they like. As long as they are portrayed correctly. Those found on the NPC List that are not otherwise noted are available for everyone's use. Players are also welcome to fashion "vague" Knights in their threads. (Vague meaning without names, serving in only very brief supportive roles) but again they must be portrayed correctly.

Unfamiliar with how a Knight should be portrayed? Here is a quote directly from the Lore.

Unlike other groups, the Syliran Knights - because of the Konti presence among the leadership - show no favoritism in their ranks. Due to their high ethics, rich or wealthy families have no ability to climb through the ranks faster than another more poorly connected individual. There is a noted lack of arrogance, corruption, and brutality among the Knighthood. In fact, individuals that display such unfavorable traits rarely rise in the ranks at all. Knights tend to show strong productive traits - generosity, patience, integrity, tolerance, and high levels of honor. If they fail to have these traits, the Gods that aid the Knighthood will turn disapprovingly towards the individuals. Also, the Wind Oak, a fragment monster of the God of Peace - Sylir - always gives a knight their quest for knighthood. If a knight is lacking in integrity and personal honor, they will not be given their quest and not be allowed full membership into the Knighthood.

The caveat to that is your own character's perceptions and experiences. Your character is free to perceive the Knights however they wish. What your character believes, experiences, does and upholds as virtue and honor is entirely in your hands. If you are a player role-playing as a Squire continue to hold true to your character's perceptions. They may act as they wish. The same goes for players role-playing as full Knights. Understand though, vastly breaching the aforementioned lore carries with it consequences.

Consequences the staff will soon be cracking down on.

You as players are not granted the freedom to improperly portray Knights against the prescribed lore without Accolade's expressed permission. He is the only individual, aside from a Founder, with the authority to have the Knights do whatever he wishes as Syliras is his Domain.

Examples

1.) The Knights, in fact, seldom ferret out death and judgement on the spot. Offenders of the Laws of Syliras actually go before a Tribunal. Your fate is decided appropriately by three judges.

2.) Having a Knight pick on your character for absolutely no other reason than that character is not human is inappropriate. Syliras actually has a Welcoming Committee to encourage diversity amongst the populace. Racism amongst the general populace might happen but in the case of the Knights it is actually frowned upon.

3.) The Knight do not pick on simple farmers. Actually if you're a farmer the Knights kind of adore and defend you. The workers who tend to the Syliran Fields are very well protected.

Those are just a few of some of the very common misconceptions people keep reiterating. As I said, your characters may have their own perceptions but do not project those perceptions onto NPC's or on the Knights of Sylir without consulting the staff first.

Thank you for your time and I hope to see you all continue to make Syliras one of the most outstanding domains on all of Mizahar!

Regards,

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Tichi on October 9th, 2013, 3:41 am

I am confused about a couple of things.

1. I see a Herald's Arms thread going on inside the Stormhold Castle forum, and one going on outside of it. Is it inside the Castle or no? Does it matter whether things go inside or outside the Stormhold Castle area?

2. I notice people are putting the in-game date at the beginning of threads. How does one determine what date to put? I can tell we're in fall season - spotted a thread announcing that. But I'm lost as to figuring an actual date.

Somebody help a perplexed newbie?

I'll leave the STs to answer the first question, since I'm not too sure about that, but as for the second question, you can create a thread with a date in Fall 513 AV - any day in this season - for a non-flashback thread. For flashbacks, you are allowed to use any date as long as it is consistent with your Character history AND Mizahar's events. If you want to post a flashback thread about your PC's childhood, then use a date on which your PC is a child. If you want to post about your PC as she is now, then you can post a regular (non-flashback) thread.

The Herald's Arms is inside the castle. The "Syliras" main forum can be used for indoor and outdoor threads, the sub-forums are for those who wanted to reflect their thread's location further. "Stormhold Citadel" for indoor locations, "Cobalt Mountains" for outdoor locations.

As for it matters or not, of course it is, Knights employ a strict rule of peace and civilized conduct. Strangers or Suspicious persons would be asked questions on their purpose to be in the castle.

[Syliras' OOC Thread] The Calm within the Storm

Postby Kaie on October 9th, 2013, 4:12 am

Crypt is absolutely right. Just to add to what he explained, Mizahar runs in fluid time. Seasons are all 91 days with the exception of Winter which has 92. Essentially what this means is you can choose any date between 1 and 91 for Fall to choose as your timestamp date. As long as you don't have threads on the same date, you should be golden. As far as flashbacks go, keep in mind you may only flashback to an In Character time prior to when you joined Mizahar Out of Character. Just figured I should add that so you don't make the same mistake I once did!

I hope I clarified more than I confused. :)
