Syka is a new settlement of primarily humans on the east coast of Falyndar opposite of Riverfall on The Suvan Sea. [Syka Codex]
"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer." - Albert Camus
Greetings Sykans!
One of the main scenarios in Syka is that the community works together and everyone shares. They share the work and they also share the bounty. When The Veronica puts in at the main dock, the Community turns out to collectively unload the ship because odds are James has brought back something for each PC therein. They also reload it, making quick work of the job and often having the day end in a celebration at The Commons.
When food is harvested and there is extra, it is often dropped by whoever needs it most, be it the elderly, or those too busy with other projects - like building - to hunt and fish. The harvesting of fruit and vegetables will often consist of more than one individual might need so it can be shared. If someone is raising a building, others will show up when they are most needed to assist. No coin changes hands, but favors are paid for favors and the tallies are never kept neatly.
It was amidst this atmosphere that when Randal and Mathias were exploring ruins on Solitude Island they found themselves a chest of trinkets. When they opened it, they found jewelry of all sorts, precious gems, minerals, and blocks of gold. They had no need for the jewelry, but Syka sees so little of this kind of thing. And to that end, they took the trinket box to the first Tenday celebration and let everyone select a piece of jewelry from it. Once everyone had, the remainder of the trinkets, nuggets, and gems were secreted away to be utilized for repairs and maintenance on The Veronica due to her importance to the Settlement.
Once people started taking jewelry, gems, and all the assorted items in the trinket chest, they started to notice something odd. Each person who wore said jewelry or carried the stone in their pocket started to develop a special extrasensory perception (ESP) that will last the whole of the Season. Some could hear thoughts, others could feel emotions, and even others could touch items and get a sense of those who owned or made the item. Gifts that sprang up were some that were known as myth, some that were told in fairytales, and some that were never before seen or imagined.
At first, no one understood what was going on. No one linked the development of the gifts to the trinket box and what individuals took from it. But later, as the season progressed, people began to understand and make the connection.
RP wise... players can select a piece of jewelry, a stone, or a nugget of precious metal. Any sort of item will do. Then, they need to run a gift by Gossamer and post it below as part of their Seasonal Requirements. Each gift was unique, honed to the individual, and perfectly tuned to their personality. If any individual hits 50K words during the next three months in the whole of Winter, they will be able to keep their gift due to their increased activity.
Good Luck! It is my hope you enjoy this season.
"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is time for home." - Edith Sitwell
Please keep these requirements in mind. If you go inactive in Syka or take a break for a season or two, you lose your free claims (that have been awarded in the past) because you haven't contributed to the community. If you have purchased your property and it's paid in full, you can feel free to go inactive with no penalty. If you are still paying on it, inactivity isn't an option without the loss of your property for missed payments. Please be aware job threads and placeholders can be no older than a season behind. Nothing will count or be paid for that is older. The list below is things you need to include in your Fall threading.
❖ Start a post in this thread keeping track of how many requirements you have completed and the gift/trinket you have selected. ❖ Take a trinket from the trinket box IC. Post the thread link in your requirements post. ❖ Select a special extrasensory perception (ESP) ability. ❖ Label any thread involving the ability as [Trinket Box] or [Trinket Box Ability]. ❖ Pay Seasonal Expenses of Common or higher. ❖ Be active. ❖ Work on one or more recommended Syka Skills (Wilderness Survival, Tradeskill, etc) and increase it by 5 points. ❖ Include one of the NPCs listed in the NPC Masterlist in one of your threads. ❖ Utilize at least 2 storyseeds in a creative way. The storyseeds can be used in whole or part or could even be used as an inspiration for a whole different story arc. Folks will just have to be able to see the connections. ❖ Write 50K words in three months during the season to retain your chosen ability. Keep a log of your word count below in a spoiler.
If you complete all these tasks successfully and fulfill the requirements, then you will get an award in the form of Quest Coupons of your choice. Incomplete threads do not count. These items must be completed by the end of the season.
Please note. These are Syka challenges. The threads must be completed in Syka or The Outpost relating to Syka business.
"I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape — the loneliness of it; the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show." - Andrew Wyeth
Please remember, storyseeds are just ideas, hints, and nudges for you to craft a greater plot from. They are a starting place. Feel free to mix, match, and combine storyseeds and knock out more than one in one thread. For example, a survival situation could easily be combined with a deep-seated unbearable pain while hunting whales. Got it? Great!
❖ Investigate a mystery. ❖ Spend time in the rain with others doing something you love. ❖ Learn a new skill. ❖ Increase one of your core skills by one whole level (ie. Novice to Competent). ❖ Visit one of the two new Syka locations. ❖ Confess something to one or all of The Founders and ask their advice. ❖ Learn a secret about yourself. ❖ Take a trip to the beach and enjoy it with another PC. ❖ Get lost in the jungle. ❖ Forage for food, fruit, or complete a hunting or fishing thread. ❖ Host a Tenday. ❖ Buy something from someone in Syka - either with coin or barter. ❖ Learn your way to someplace new in the jungle. ❖ Interact with a wild animal in a peaceful or violent way. ❖ Talk someone into doing something outside of their comfort zone. ❖ Make someone laugh or cry.
"A man says a lot of things in summer he doesn’t mean in winter." - Patricia Briggs
Winter is considered one of the mildest and forgiving seasons in Syka. The days are warm but not overly hot and the nights are cool and refreshing without being cold. The fishing is good, hunting is even better, and the jungle tends to come alive with blooms that aren't often seen in other seasons where the temperatures are more extreme. The rain still falls softly in the morning and in the evening as the tropical cycle of evaporation and condensation continues. No one, however, would ever consider winter rain in Syka to be soaking and inhibiting. Instead, it is refreshing and is never heavy enough to create the mud that spring is prone to.
The streams don't flood and the river tends to be at its lowest during this time of year. That means it is usually completely unnavigable except by canoes and paddleboards bearing light riders. This is the perfect time to open new trails, clear overgrown existing ones, and find new locations in the jungle as it blooms. Things don't grow overly fast this season, instead concentrating on fruiting and flowering which provides the abundance that is so prolific in the spring and summer.
I'm always willing to run a personal storyline for anyone who joins Syka for the season. People get such few opportunities to interact with their actual storylines in generic calendar situations within various domains, so in Syka I'd like to change that. I will be willing to run the following:
Personal Quests
Gnosis Threads
Flashbacks & Future Foretellings
Training Threads
Just let me know what I can help you out with. Syka might be small but we have had some really incredible storylines here in the past.
❖ Start a post in this thread keeping track of how many requirements you have completed and the gift/trinket you have selected. ❖ Take a trinket from the trinket box IC. Post the thread link in your requirements post. A rose gold watermelon tourmaline ring.

Danger Intuition - Tazrae can sense nearing danger, acute danger, potential immediate danger, or impending danger and sense unwanted or hectic threats to her well-being and attempt to evade it. The intuition usually regards herself but may include their surroundings and loved ones in her vicinity. This intuition comes in the form of visions that may remind her of daydreaming or fantasizing about something. For example, if she's walking along a steep cliff trail and suddenly visualizes herself falling off the cliff because the trail crumbles beneath her... .that's this ability rearing its head and warning her..

"A mark of an open mind is being more committed to your curiosity than your conviction. The goal of learning is not to shield old views against new facts, but to revise old views with new facts. Ideas are possibilities to explore, not certainties to defend."

Inner Compass
Oralie can get a sense of the general direction a place or person is in, provided she has been there before, or met them. In addition it can only direct her with any accuracy if the place or person is within a couple day's travel by foot (in either form - note that ocelots can travel further than a human). All she has to do to use the ability is think about the place or person and she will be able to orient herself. The ability will not show her a route - it is like a compass in that she can tell 'as-the-crow-flies'.

Moritz trinket is a charm for his charm bracelet. It takes the form of a small purple metallic disc, with a simplistic partly open eye engraved on one side and a simplistic fist engraved on the other.
❖ Select a special extrasensory perception (ESP) ability.
Combat presence sense-Moritz can sense other beings (people, animal, etc) combat presence as it compares to his own. If he ran into a person with no combat skills picking up a weapon for the first time he would likely sense little to no combat presence, whereas if he ran into a master swordsman with multiple high level combat skills he would sense a powerful combat presence from them.
While he would also know roughly how their combat presence compared to his own this can be a bit more vague, though clear large differences in their combat presence higher or lower are easier to detect.
This is activated by directly focusing on a being, and so requires him to be aware of someone to sense their presence, and they must be within eyesight.

Spatial Mapping
In her mind's-eye, Ialari can create a mental map of her surroundings. This ability effectively creates a three-dimensional representation of the surrounding area in a 50-foot sphere centered on her. The mental model of the area appears as a series of painted lines, points and patterns as they connect to form physical space. For example, a mostly square room would appear as a three-dimensional cube. Doors, windows, stairs, halls, tunnels, pillars and other structural aspects of a space are highlighted in a similar manner. Furniture and similar decor does not show up. (Much like a 3D Architectural Diagram).
This ability transcends line-of-sight. If standing outside of a building or in close proximity to one, any room or structure inside the 50-foot sphere of effect can be mentally mapped out unless it is somehow protected from such viewing by magic, gnosis or related elements. If the space to be mapped extends outside of the sphere of effect, only a partial map will be created. However, the area of effect moves with Ialari so continued movement can help expand the map although moving while exploring the mental map can detract attention to what is going on around her.
Finer details are quite limited with only some static objects discernible without refined features. Examples being trees, bushes and rocks.
Lifeforms other than the before-mentioned trees and bushes are undetectable.
