Brisa
Appearance
Race: Kelvic (Alvina Deerstalker)
Gender: Female
Age: 1 year
Birthday: 10th of Summer 521
Birthplace: Sunberth
Appearance: In both forms Brisa is a sturdy creature. As a human she stands 5’8 and 140lbs with powerful legs and strong shoulders. Her hair is shaved to her scalp to avoid fleas and other pests, and to remove a grabbing point in a fight. Her skin is incredibly dark, peppered with small scars and bite marks from a life in Sunberth. Amber eyes and prominent canine-like teeth carry over from her animal form.
Weather permitting Brisa wears only a short, unbelted tunic, wide enough to be pulled over her head in an instant. Around her throat is a menacing spiked collar made to protect her from weapons and animals, complete with a copper nameplate that nobody has bothered filling in. The collar is worn loose to fit properly around her thicker canine neck but is capable of being tightened with a key to prevent her from shifting.
As a dog she is nearly the same size: 140lbs she sports a broad, square head with powerful jaws on a compact, muscular body. She is a good example of an Akinva deerstalker, a breed of dog made to both run down prey and to pitfight other dogs. Her fur is a uniform velvet black with amber eyes she carries over to her human form.
Character Concept
Brisa is a simple creature. The product of slavery and an early bond, there is something almost stunted about her. It has made her a slow learner, struggling with intangible concepts and complex forms of reasoning. It also makes her reactionary. Her first instinct is always the one she acts on. But perhaps her worst trait is how defined she is by other people, by how they treat her and what they want from her. She holds no opinion that wasn’t someone else’s first, even opinions about herself.
But this following instinct has given her an incredible sense of empathy and emotional intelligence. She can read a room quickly and reads body language like any dog, picking up on emotions easily. Emotional and even physical abuse tends to roll off her, and she can bounce back with a smile from almost any situation. Sunberth and life has made her tough, but her canine nature has made her gentle. Love and loyalty run thick and true in Brisa.
Character History
Nobody is quite sure where Brisa comes from. She was sold to Killroy’s Kennels as an infant. And whether the woman was her mother, the owner of unwanted Kelvic offspring, or someone who stole a kelvic child to make a quick miza, they never knew. Or rather, didn’t ask.
She was called “the baby” or “the kid” while she lived in the basement quarters of the Kennels, and by the end of her two season captivity, the epithet stuck. When she was brought before Kane in the front entrance of the Kennels she was introduced to her new master: “This is our sweet Baby.”
Kane wasn’t interested in raising a child, but he wanted the Kelvic. He would visit periodically over the next season, always with an extra length of horse jerky or a soup bone, telling her that one day he was going to take her home, that if she was good, he would take care of her for the rest of her life.
The bond, when it happened, was a perfunctory, inevitable thing. It came without fanfare or ceremony, as transactional as the coins given to Killroy when Kane took her home some weeks later. He named her Brisa, and the two have lived together ever since.
