80th Winter 521 AV - Taz & Alric's Apartments Of all the magics that he had explored so far, the Flux was by far the one he enjoyed the most. It was both more physical and felt deeper in its uses than Auristics and Shielding. Even if it couldn’t reveal anything of the world that was hidden, or prevent someone from attacking him, it felt more natural to him. It was amusing to him given its origins in Suvan, almost a mockery of his bloodline. Though he was taking the magic book on trust in that respect, for all he knew the Flux had been an ancient and well used magic, even more ancient than the empires themselves, and it had just been adopted by Suvan more than Alahea for its use. What he liked was the physicality of it. He knew it went deeper than that, almost instinctively felt that it could take him into the very depths of his body and energy, but he couldn’t help revelling in the activity itself. This time, however, he had decided to test out a theory he had been musing upon, even if it were just as a warm-up for the actual magical experimentation that would come afterwards. The idea had come to him when he had been enjoying his pipe and watching the fire after a workout enhanced by the Flux. Meditation had become more regular for him, so much so that he found it easier than when he had first been shown the principles by Moritz what seemed like an age ago. He had realised that it was, at its core, a controlling of the physical with the mental, and then a subsuming of the mental into a nothingness, just a state of…being. That had made him wonder whether it could be used with the Flux, and whether on some level it meant that the Flux had been discovered that way. He knew what the magical tome had said but he liked to verify himself where possible. “And now is the time” he muttered to himself as he shifted upon the floor, back resting against the wall for support and legs crossed as comfortably as he could. His eyes were closed, and his focus was upon the internal, on retreating deep within himself, mapping the network of energy pathways he had both copied from Tazrae’s magical tome and learned himself to provide additions in his mind’s eye. He had spent quite some time that way already, losing sense of precisely how long as he had retreated inwards and outwards enough already that time was less meaningful and sensation was more important – a states of mind that had been elusive for a while up until the last attempt at meditation. He finally felt ready to start attempting what he had in mind, tapping into his ‘well’ and letting his Djed trickle into him, slowly this time, almost a drop at a time in how it felt as he was trying something he hadn’t before and had no desire to ‘explode’ like the unfortunate Flux mages of old. He felt it begin to move around him, his mind harnessing it and instead of forcing the movement of it through his body by physically shifting it, switching to a purely mental control, focused entirely upon keeping it moving rather than using if for any specific task. As his Djed grew in amount, filling him with what felt like a crackling warmth, seeping into every part of his body, he cut off the supply and instead switched everything to controlling that which he had already taken within himself. As it circulated, he could almost feel as if he buzzed and hummed from within, as if the power could physically project itself externally even as he kept it crackling through him internally. |
