The vast majority of people that come to Syka get their first impression from The Syka Dock. Jutting out into the turquoise waters of Syka Bay, the Syka Dock forms the simple shape of a large "T" with the topmost part of the "T" parallel to the shore. The dock originates from Swing Beach and leads people departing freshly tied up boats into the core of the Sykan Commons.
From the dock the swings of Swing Beach are visible hanging from palms and swaying gently in the breeze and most of the Commons can be seen tucked into the greenery of the shore. Scattered around Syka Bay, various homes and businesses are seen as well.
Solitude Island is also quite visible off the dock itself.
There is nothing fancy about this structure. Built sturdy, minimalistic, and of locally sourced wood, this structure is highly representative of Syka itself. Two large ships can tie off on the outer cap of the T, while a multitude of Svefran casinors can tie up on the inner pilings of the dock itself.
The Syka Dock is completely exposed to the elements. It has no coverings or walkways. People wouldn't have far to fall to hit the water, though the designer of the dock managed to make the dock long enough that it stretches to deep water so larger ships can tie up.
Syka itself has a tradition. There is only one boat that calls Syka it's a permanent home. That ship is The Veronica. When The Veronica touches the dock and ties off on a return trip to Syka, the denizens of the city turn out to unload the ship and resupply her... voluntarily acting as longshoremen to carry each and every bit of cargo to and from the ship.
Then, afterward, there is often a large settlement-wide gathering for food and drink, entertainment, and dancing. The Founders have never made it a requirement, but this long-time tradition has managed to strengthen and unite the community as a whole.
