74 Fall 522

Sitting silently in his room, Moritz felt the bed beneath him as he sat on the edge. Focusing for a moment he looked down at his wrist, going through the charms there. After a few moments he found one in particular, a small golden coin. He vaguely knew how it was used, but had not yet prepared or actually used it.

Laying back across the bed to relax himself, Moritz then did as he understood from when he received the item... Relaxed... Cleared his mind... And focused on the idea of home. Being in Sunberth, his literal home was this room... But only sort of. Along with that was Infinity Manor back in Lhavit... But he did not think going there just yet was the best idea... No, Syka. Syka was in a way his home, even if he had moved away. And with that he did think going back would be nice. In some ways it was much more relaxing than Sunberth. No fear of being stabbed or robbed every other step, which meant constantly keeping up ones guard. It had other dangers, but was relatively crime free.

His eyes clothed, Moritz began thinking of the place. Of course the first place he thought of was the building he had stayed in, the rented bungalow on the side of the road away from the beach... First things first he focused on the front. Most of it was wood, with some things to keep out bugs but mostly open to allow air to circulate... Otherwise, he knew, it would get quite hot.

On the front side it was a few steps up leading to the front door. This was because the ground floor of the bungalow was not directly on the soil, but lifted up. This also meant there was a space below the structure, an opening for storing items and such... But also meaning if there was a storm surge, flood, or otherwise a rush of water, the living area would stay high and dry. One by one he tried to picture each of these things in his head, each element of the house, slowing working his way along it.

The front, a few steps leading up to the door, not solid but covered only for insects... When the rain was fierce it did not necessarily keep dry inside, since it could not ward off water drops but merely bugs.Still it was drier there than being outside of a roof when a sudden storm of rain came through...

Picturing it in his head, he imagined walking along the path, seeing the bungalow from that side... Walking nearer... And then in his mind he pictured a bird, and recalled the crow that he often ran into there, that had seemingly taken up residence atop his abode... In fact, said crow had given him several items including many charms on his wrist right now.

With a sigh Moritz tried to clear his mind once again, pushing away thoughts of the bird, but the more he tried to stop thinking about it the more it flooded his mind.

A Home Returned I

After taking a break for a short while, Moritz closed his eyes again and tried to focus his mind on the task at hand. In his mind he built up the home he had lived in during his stay in Syka bit by bit so as to better get a mental picture...

There was a path out front leaded to the cobbled pathway... And grass, along with other vegetation since the entire area had not been cleared. The building itself was a small clearing with no trees, but surrounding it a bit further back the treeline started again with the jungle woodland expanding outward. Eventually one would end up in the true wilds, but this was a much tamer bit of the jungle on the peripheries of true civilization of the settlement... And among that clearing, was his bungalow.

Like most of Syka it was not flat on the ground, built up a bit so as to avoid any sudden surge of water. Technically there was also a spot there below to be used for storage, but the Kelvic had not really used it much if at all. Plus since it was mostly open to the elements only certain things could be stored there, namely things too big to be carried off by a monkey or random beast investigating things.

Picturing it in his mind he tried to break it apart bit by bit and piece it back together. Having spent a fair bit of time around it he felt he knew it quite well, and when he concentrated... He could remember even more details. Most of it was wood, four pillars making up the outer edge and main thrust of the structure. Built upon that was several other pieces, basically expanding into one big square shape. That was basically a platform, upon which the rest of the house was built. Simple and thin walls to let the cool air through, with the openings covered in netting to keep out bugs. Of course this did not totally work on water, but except in torrential pouring rain the inside kept mostly dry.

From the ground up that was supports to keep it up off the ground, a front porch or deck with steps leading up to it... Walls and netting... And then of course the roof, a nice solid one since rain was so regular. One thing he did not know too much about was the water storage on the roof, a large cistern where water used for bathing or more to the point showering was kept. He was also a bit unclear on how it was heated, but had grown to like the hot water used for cleaning so different from the cold water falling from the sky so regularly. Or at least more cold compared to the bathing water, as it was not truly cold often in Syka when dealing with much of anything.

The more he thought on the place deeply the more Moritz realized how little he knew about its workings, something he felt was odd seeing how long he had lived there.

While he had been focusing for awhile, Moritz could feel he had not finished charging the object just yet. And so he worked his mind, trying to think how else he could meditate on that spot in Syka he considered home. After a bit of pondering he decided on his next avenue, mentally picturing himself moving about and doing things inside and around it just as he had in the past. It was not truly complicated, but he felt it was a valid was to sync himself and charge the coin for travel as he understood it.

His eyes still closed Moritz focused back on his residence in Syka, picturing himself in bed. Opening his eyes within this mental image he imagined sitting up, and standing on the wooden decking of his room... As normal in the morning he padded outside to the outhouse to make his morning ablutions. Then he would make a quick stop by the cistern to check it out, making sure it had enough water and did not have any leaks or things for bugs to get in.

With that done he made a quick pass outside, checking out the structure, making sure no animal had gotten in or otherwise found a way to break the place. The last thing he wanted was monkeys or something getting in and stealing stuff, or worse bugs. Bugs were his bane when it came to his house. He did not mind them outside, but inside they got into food, spoiled things, chewed on things, and otherwise just made a ruckus he did not want. While he was only renting he did not want the place damaged, and still wanted to keep it in as good order as possible. Which meant making a daily inspection habit, and something he did in passing real quick for a few chimes.

The longest part of this was scanning all of the netting, since it was the most open part of the building but also required only a small gap for something to get in. After making a full circuit and inspection Moritz returned inside, opening the front door.

Feeling a bit tired he laid back atop his bed for a bit, stretching and feeling out his body. From there he looked about the room, picturing in his mind each part in its open access. The bungalow was less a series of rooms, and one big room with outer walls and a wall dividing the bedding area from the other side with the living area. From the bed he could see the heath, though with Syka's heat he rarely lit in except when he was in the process of cooking. Not that he did a ton of that, since he often ate at work... Though since he would only be visiting for short trips he supposed that would not be true anymore, and he would not be needed to work in the kitchens. Still he would figure things out, sprawling across his home for a bit before letting his mind wander to other parts of it.

Feeling out in his small mental space, there was Moritz bungalows bedroom area and the hearth for cooking. Plus a small table off to the side where cutting and chopping and things could be done. That overall made a simple but working kitchen, though admittedly not much more than a basic one compared to one with a stove and oven and other such things for cooking. Better than a campfire, but not much else.

On the other side of the dwelling was the eating area, with a simple table and some chairs to sit at, which for obvious reasons was where Moritz partook of most of his food. He had not really had much need for all of the chairs, mainly eating alone when he was there. Evalynn had come over a bit, but he could not recall them eating while there...

On the living space next to the dining area there was a small seating area for guests and such, also not much used by Moritz. The centerpiece was a table in the middle, forming a place for everyone to look. There was also a smaller side table off to the side of some of the seating, which was sometimes used to hold some light. For seating itself there were a few cushioned chairs around the main table, along with a single longer couch which was also cushioned. None of them were overly fancy or well appointed, but they were decent enough and served their purpose. To be sat in. For people to talk and socialize. Moritz had not used them much if at all for that, but they were there all the same.

Still he could imagine having friends over and talking to them. In thinking on this the people who went to his mind were the pair of Verusk woman he often sparred with. One who went jogging and sparred quite spiritedly. The other was a dancer and boxer and things, and had taught him about Wysar and using his mark. He had trouble with names, but he remembered them well by the actions and things they did even if he could not recall what they were actually called.

The dancer would likely sit a bit more calmly, less rushed as a person. The jogger and fighter would likely want him to get to the point, or to serve the food if she was to stick around. He was not entirely sure since he'd not had them over, but from past experience this seemed likely enough as he play acted with them in his head of them coming over as friends to talk and such.

As he thought on them he was unsure really what exactly they were, or where they were from, but the ones he had seen together did seem to know each other leaving him to assume they came from the same place. They also seemed much older than him, but then most anyone he met was older than him and so that did not mean much. Being a Kelvic he had not really met many who were not older since most humans his age could not even talk properly.

A Home Returned I

Postby Moritz Craven on January 9th, 2023, 1:37 am

After spending awhile meditating on his residence in Syka Moritz focused on the coin a bit, pausing in his work. However from what he could tell he did not get the sense it was quite charged fully, and still needed some more mental focus and meditation to get there. It was after all his first try, so he did expect it to take him a bit longer to get a handle on it. After this though he hoped he would get better at the task, and be able to do so faster and with less effort than this long session had taken.

Having gone over many parts of the residence bit by bit, Moritz decided to run back over the entire thing in his head while meditating one last time. Trying to paint a good mental picture within his mental space he focused first on the ground. The house itself was in an opening in the trees, a small clearing within the trees of the jungle. Of course besides the beach so far as Moritz could tell this was true of most of the settlement. The big jungle trees did not grow on the sandy beach nor where salt water commonly came in, but further inland most everything was covered in trees along with other diverse plant life. The cobbled pathway for one was paved to stop things from growing in, with paths leading off of it to places like the small houses here and there.

Inside of this ring of cut trees with an opening for the path to the cobbled path, was a building. On the ground supports, holding the main house up off of the ground. With that there were stairs leading upward to the front porch, and letting you inside the residence. Since it was up off the ground there was also open space below, not something Moritz used much but a good place to camp or store things.

And then there was the building itself upon those supports. Most of it was open to the air, letting the cool breeze through. It still had netting, keeping animals and bugs out, but letting the breeze in... One by one Moritz pictured each of these elements, trying to form a good picture in his mind and focus on the task of charging the travel item. Of thinking of home, which in his mind was still that place back in Syka not other places he had been or was now staying at.

Inside of that was several sort of rooms, sort of singular room, though Moritz divided that in his head into quarters. There was the living space for guests and discussions and things, with a table and chairs. Then there was the dining space with a bigger table and different chairs. The cooking area had a table or counter, along with a hearth... And then the bedroom, with a bed. Of all the places Moritz felt he spent the most time there, though all in all he felt he knew the entire place pretty well from all the time he had spent in or through it. As he thought on this Moritz finally felt something off the coin, and figured he had achieved his goal in managing to charge it.

With a sigh Moritz opened his eyes and eyed the coin, sitting up for a moment before lying back down. Despite having been sitting all that time and just thinking in his mind he still somehow felt tired at that moment. Though why exactly he was unsure, perhaps from all of the deep focus and thinking he had been doing.
