[Correspondence] Wintry Letters (Haeli)

An open drawer, filled with parchment and quills and bottles of ink. A writing desk, strewn with crumpled paper and blotchy spots of failed writing. This was the rent-in office Lesserage had booked for the sake of accounting and such. Nowadays, it also served as an impromptu site of correspondence with a certain merchantess from afar in Lhavit.

OOCPlease timestamp letters with the dates they were sent.
"Look closely into every man's eyes. There, you will find a dream."
"Within every woman's eyes, lies an ambition."
"And in each child's eyes is an aspiration."
"Even within a beast, lies instinct."
"And within us all...

... Is a story."

Haeli sat right down and wrote Lesserage back, happy that someone had picked up her random letter, gotten her address and decided to write her. The messenger was told to wait and tipped to do so, and with that Haeli sat down to quickly write the man back. It would not arrive for another 15 days via ship if not longer. But at least she got it on a boat with the tide.

All Things Wild - 214, Zintia Peak, Lhavit, Kalea

Greetings Lesserage Skyglow!

Its so nice that you received my letter and wrote back. Talking to strangers across the world is such a thrilling prospect. And to have gotten someone from Avanthal to write back is amazing in my eyes. I was pleased to hear that you are a merchant and carver. I have never had anything but respect for those that can turn wood into works of art. Everyone here has heard of Avanthal with your giant polar bears and perpetual snows.

I own a shop in Lhavit that deals with herbs, spices, and scents. We sell things like candles and incense along with our perfumes. We also have a resident tinker who works on inventing things. His recent subject was a device that brought the outdoors night stars inside. Most of the buildings in Lhavit are made of glass and have domed ceilings, so these are particularly beautiful projected onto the glass.

Avanthal! During one of my return trips, I stopped by a mailing outpost in the outskirts of Avanthal and picked up a free-response letter from Lhavit. I must say, we Vantha are quite susceptible to a good story, and this letter promised one! I was intrigued enough that I now write to you in good faith and eagerly seek a response. What wares is it you deal in, Vesserina? I know little of Lhavit, and am quite hungry for knowledge!

I too have never seen an Inarta, but I believe in things I haven't seen. Too many people know about them for them not exist. Think about that, my new friend. A famous man said once nothing unreal exists. With all the magic in the world, its literally possible for new things to be birthed into it every day, especially with the djed left over from the Valterrian.

I actually never saw snow before I lived in Lhavit. And when I say never I mean it. Never. Lhavit is way up in the mountains on the tops of peaks, so it sees snow a great deal in the winter. There's especially bad storms here because we are so high in the sky.

Since I was a foundling, meaning as a baby I washed up on the shore of a beach after a seriously fierce storm among the wreckage of a ship, I cannot tell you where I was born. But the woman that found me was a dhani! She lived in the Gyvaka and raised me thankfully as her own child. I would have never survived without her. So rather than thinking of myself as a human, often I think more like a dhani. We lived in a place called the Gyvaka, which is a vast swamp on the boarder of Falyndar and Kalea. It's very rough living there, but it is where I call 'home'. It never snowed. It was never really cold either. There are snakes and bugs and crocodiles everywhere, so you had to be careful where you walked or stepped. But it was a great place to learn herbalism and magic. I know a fair share of both.

Tell me, since it snows so much up there, what you do during storms. I know you Vantha tell stories and carve things, but what else do you do? And since you are a merchant, what are you merchanting? Would you be interested in receiving some more exotic spices and herbs from the Gyvaka in exchange for some of your rarer Avanthal plants?

Sincerely,
Haeli
