The simple door waited somewhere along the path between the kitchens and the Courtyard, its purpose clearly nothing more than providing privacy. Inlaid into the thin wood, a rectangular piece of stone acted as nameplate to affirm the hesitant visitor that, indeed, they were in the right place. Inlaid in the lovingly formed stone, four words shone with fiery brilliance. A glassworker had taken the initiative and colored the names in black and red swirled glass, no doubt inspiration from the Eagle belonging to this particular office. The glass caught the light of nearby candelabras and seemed to provide an ominous warning, drawing the fire in and releasing it in insidious crimson gleams. Sairque Catabasis Endal Coordinator But once one got past that little hiccup, the antechamber was much more welcoming and cozy. Flanking the door, two comfortable stone benches flowed out of the walls behind them and extended to the wall of the actual office. It was a small antechamber, only big enough for six people if four of them happened to be sitting down. Above the benches, shelves had been formed into the stone and their empty maws extended all the way to the ceiling. And that was all. Visitors should have brought something to entertain themselves with. The door to the office, on the other hand, had been pulled out of the mountain instead of the forest. The thin slate of stone usually sat slightly ajar and Sai would call the visitor in relatively promptly, asking them to shut the door behind them. The actual office was just as simple as the antechamber, it turned out. A desk called up from the floor, simple wooden chairs, shelves lining the wall behind the desk, flanking walls smooth and bare. Hey, every new office had to start out poor. Sai, thick blood red braid accented with silk scarves pulled over her shoulder, glanced up from a simple, mostly empty, ledger. Sitting back, she fixed those brilliant yellow eyes on her visitor, a lopsided smile softening the drawn planes of her face. Unless the visitor had been called in because they petched up. In which case they got no smile, and Sai probably had a wicked hunting knife resting on the top of her desk, slowly rotated around on its handle by one fingertip pushing along the blade. Just in case. |
