Graln Race: Kelvic (Dire Polar Bear) Birthday: Winter 31st, 506 AV Height: 6’6’’ Weight: 162 lbs History: Even though most don’t know him by that name anymore, there are still some who remember him as Markus. When he was born, Graln was given a human name even though everyone knew he was an animal in his very essence. His birth was not a lonely one, he came into the world with a twin brother, but the other one was stillborn. The bear always felt he was growing up too quickly, one year he was playing with the young children, and by the end of that same year he was babysitting them. It was an awkward life that he knew he did not want any part in. His mother deteriorated slowly, year by year, till she died in the winter of 508. Even while everyone said she came down with illness, Graln was sure that his mother drifted off into the wilderness to die like a beast she was. The father was never really much of a parent to him, not by his choice though. The bear did not like human contact and despised the human lifestyle. There was only one basic thing he shared with humans, training for the Icewatch. From small feet, he knew he should love, respect and protect Morwen the snow queen. It was not all bad, as he got to hang out with many feral acquaintances. Graln even went as far as to almost get bonded once, to a stranger no less. Her name was Ivy something, and even while he tried, he couldn’t remember her last name. She came to Avanthal as a trader, one of the few bold that ever dared to venture so far into the northern reaches. He had no idea what love meant, but he had both heard and seen what the bond should look like. They went on hunts together and everything they ever caught, he would give to her. Furs, pelts, all kinds of meat and good quality bones; he would leave them all at her feet, thinking what he got in return was love. In the winter of 509 he even asked her if she would bond with him, but she refused. He just stood there and stared at her plainly as she explained all her reasons, and somehow they all seemed so insignificant to him. So what if it was not the best time in her life? Did it really matter that he would have to abandon Morwen and the Icewatch for her? The question was not dropped until she finally brought up the one thing he couldn’t go against; she did not want to get hurt. He still could not understand why it was that she started crying shortly after, and then she told him. She could not handle losing someone, considering his short lifespan. She wanted forever, and he just wasn’t someone who could give her that. It was the one thing he never wanted to do, hurt her, so he obeyed silently. Leaving her alone, even avoiding her gaze whenever he possibly could and crossing to the other side of the street when she would walk through the town. Later he started blaming himself, thinking his gifts were not good enough or that their number wasn’t large enough. Even after being left alone completely, he kept the only promise he ever gave her; he would never change, and he never did. What he remained was a hyperactive nut that was always chasing some wild dreams and loved raw meat using the same passion he hated most people with. Character: Even while he isn’t what is considered young by most other bears, he still acts like a curious cub most of the time. Fishing, hunting, snow, napping and eating is what he loves above everything else and would very likely bite anyone interrupting him in either of those. While he does hate people and social contact, he still feels a gap that can only be filled by a bondmate. That sometimes leads him to actually putting up with conversations that don’t interest him, and even goes as far as to have some people think they are actually his friends. He does not believe humans, and he does not care enough to check their stories for credibility. Some pride still lingers in his demeanor, as he will never allow even a single bad word to be said about any bear, anywhere. He trusts what his gut tells him and often judges people based on smell alone. The only thing he really has going in his life is the hope that someday he too can be bonded, so that little voice in his head would stop. While being desperate for a stable relationship, a master and some purpose besides being a guard in his life, he still believes that he deserves to get some attention in return. There was a strange feeling of disbelief that kept his reason from seeing clearly; Ivy had just used him and then she threw him away, or so he was told. That made him believe all humans were rotten all along, and he is still prepared to bite most that dare approach him. Senari was almost something of a role model to him, as he remained a bestial rebel, yet he got a bondmate, a future and his own happy ending. Graln did not respect the bear for his strength, nor did he find his character to be appealing; instead he marveled his luck, bondmate and acceptance. On rare occasions when he does interact with people, he presents himself as good best friend material. Not in the way that he can solve anything and everything that bothers the person he is talking to, but in a way which keeps his ‘friend’ away from all the grim thoughts inside their head. While seemingly the master of making everyone better, he hardly ever manages to do the same for himself. And even while most of his time is spent alone, he still plays with all his heart, doing anything he can to keep being occupied. Appearance: In his human form, Graln is a lot like his father. Dark hair grows on top of his head, varying in length, depending on the season. The eyes match his partially Vantha heritage as well, changing color with his feelings. He can’t be found as a human often, but when he is, he always wears ordinary clothes ranging in all shades of beige. Even while he hates it, he still understands the need to cover himself up and takes good care of the garments. When transformed in his rightful form, Graln is 5’7’’ at the shoulder line with his length being approximately 9 feet. These proportions make him extremely heavy, his body mass suprassing 1900 lbs. Nevertheless, he looks like one of the bigger bears found around Avanthal. A subtle outline of the mark can't be seen under his thick fur unless one knew particularly where to look; on the right shoulder. Skills:
