[Serasia] A female eypharian, age 24, born Spring 28, 486. [Appearance] Standing at 5’8” and weighing 165 pounds, she is not the thinnest of her peers and dresses accordingly. Her light linen gowns are usually loose fitting and synched at the waist with a belt. Her dark hair has barely been cut since birth, painted lightly with gold and always tied up in elaborate braids with jeweled pins. She walks with a practiced grace and a high chin, embodying elegance. Her life of indoor decadence has left her olive skin soft and pale. She favors the bold colors of sunset (orange, red, violet) when painting her face, especially around her golden-hazel eyes. As a jeweler, she sometimes wears the gems of her trade and will not hesitate to sell any piece (almost). [Demeanor] Serasia takes herself very seriously. Quick to rage and slow to trust, her passions are like a sandstorm: once they are loosed they are hard to contain. But she has learned how to control this great weakness by keeping herself busy with her work and avoiding sources of frustration. Above all else, she values order and discipline. She crafts her merchandise in the morning, she goes to the market or trains in other various skills in the afternoon, and she usually attends evening parties into the night. She does not often stray from this schedule and finds fulfillment in it. Though not inherently kind, she is social and friendly towards fellow Eypharians of the same or higher rank. While she otherwise acts sneeringly superior to anyone else, she is quicker than most of her race to recognize value in a talented, industrious individual, no matter their heritage. [History] A young man from the East Wind House had engaged in a passionate love affair with a Gilded woman named Suratset, who hoped to gain rank with his affection. She was a gossip, more willing to spread a rumor than to improve herself or do a hard day’s work. Because of this behavior, the Easts refused to take her even when she became pregnant. Her lover inevitably chose his family over her. Despondent but stubborn, Suratset apprenticed herself with a gemcutter to try and win him back. She raised her daughter in the same trade, preaching the importance of hard work and poise even though she could not achieve it herself. Despite her continued efforts, the man married and had more children; Suratset never returned to the Houses for very long afterwards. Serasia spent her childhood listening to her mother’s stories of greatness, less than impressed. While she still aspires to a better lot in life, she does not think herself lowly or spurned as she has often been told. In fact, she has developed a secret sense of superiority because of her birth, even though she dares not mention it to a fellow Eypharian. She grew talented and successful, with a broad circle of acquaintances and a profitable business. Even as she grew into senility, Suratset lived vicariously through her daughter’s financial and social successes among the Gilded. Now that her mother is dead, Serasia is not afraid to express her disdain for the childish woman, while she will not allow any other person to insult her memory. She sometimes has trouble defining herself outside of her mother’s endless babbling, but has begun to broaden her horizons in attempts to find herself and a sense of belonging. Thread List
