Taking a Walk (Open)

Bright had stopped running once he had found himself at a far enough distance from his sister, so that she would not follow him, just in case she decided to attack him for the problems he had just caused her. He had steadied his pace to a slow walk, making sure not to bump into any of the other roamers going about their daily business. Looking around he noticed how much busier this place had gotten since he had left.

The skies seemed so much clearer as of late. There had been a storm a few days ago, but since then, nothing but blue skies with the occasional lone cloud. He could get used to this. Honestly, it was so much better for his health. He kept a calm expression on his face, not something that would make him unnaproachable, or something that made him seem overly happy. Just...calm.

He saw many familiar faces as he passed through, and many new ones, as well. Children were running about, playing happily, and men and women conversed, and were doing all sorts of routine activities all around him. This was what he had been missing when he had been in the Sea of Grass. That god forsaken land had nothing on this.

He stopped for a moment, letting a large group of riders pass by in front of him. They looked as if they had just returned from a hunting mission. Quietly he waited, before beginning to walk again.

One of the riders peeled off from the group and a lithe Watchman not much older than Bright himself leaped off the back of his golden mare. It was a showy sort of thing, his acrobatic dismount and steady landing, but Sama'el wanted to be the best rider his people had ever known, and so he practiced such things. Even the Sayaph of the Watch didn't seem to mind, and Sama'el got the feeling that some of his people approved of such displays of prowess as it added to their faith in the Watch, and all Drykas respected ability.

The Strider was a bit lathered, but Sama'el held her head to his chest in a gentle embrace and murmured something into her ear. As if she understood him perfectly, she nuzzled his growing hair and trotted off in the direction of Sama'el's camp. One couldn't call it a proper pavilion, but there were three tents, three horses, and a cook fire. Denen or Jyn would unload Dohaina's burdens of fresh meat and yvas, combing and grooming her and getting her fed while Sama'el himself attended to some other business.

He bumped into Bright, much more awkward on foot than he was on horseback. His hands came out to steady the other young man as he grinned with embarrassment.

"Sorry about that. Legs are a little sore from riding... Are you all right?"

Taking a Walk (Open)

Bright was knocked a bit unbalanced by a sudden body that roughly bumped into his own. Luckily, he didn't fall, thanks to the quick reactions of the man before him who saved him a whole lot of embarrassment. He pulled back a bit, to look up at the man. "No. I'm fine, I should've been looking more carefully." He gave the man a crooked smile back, and prayed to the gods it wasn't obvious that he was socially awkward.

Taking a brief look at the other man's face, he seemed to recognize him. He had seen him on several occasions riding by on his horse or passing by whenever Bright went to the market, but try as he might, he couldn't think of his name. "It was faulty alertness on my part." He added truthfully. He honestly hardly ever spent any time training. He knew that if he didn't though, with his luck, something bad was bound to happen.

There passed a vague sort of recognition between them, though Sama'el could not say where he had seen him before. Endrykas was a sea of faces within the Sea of Grass, and Sama'el didn't know every face, though now and then he saw the same one on multiple occasions. He smiled despite not making the entire connection; if they had spoken or truly had some exchange, he would have remembered him better.

"I'm Sama'el of the Sapphire Clan," he said, putting his hand out to formally make the man's acquaintance, clasp wrists and actually commit a face and name to memory. He wanted to be well known, of course, in order that he might raise his pavilion and its name from the dead. "And the Watch," he added, glancing toward the dust raised by the passing of his compatriots. "Well met."

Bright looked at the offered hand, and couldn't help the grin that came with the welcoming gesture. He clasped Sama'el's wrist, "And I am Bright of the Opal Clan." He locked eyes with the man, though he was sure his awkwardness was showing through. "The same to you." He pulled back his arm then to gaze around at the people that were roaming about. He still had to find his family, but he wasn't really in a hurry to see his father. Passing time was definitely an option.

"So how goes the watch these days? It's been a while since I have been home, and things have already begun to look foreign to me." He crossed his arms over his chest, suddenly feeling smaller compared to the man next to him.

Sama'el didn't say his pavilion's name because his pavilion was dead, but he wondered at Bright, who only shared his clan as Sama'el had. Perhaps it was his sort of etiquette. Sam colored a bit, reacting physically before he could think through his fears of being judged for a dead pavilion and his decade of trials before returning and attempting to be a Drykas again. He banished all that with a smile, gripping the Opal lad's wrist in greeting and, perhaps, in future friendship. Sama'el was certainly keen to make friends among the clans.

"I seem to meet more Opal clansmen than not," he noticed, purposefully not thinking about Dymphna, who was not his to marry any longer, and his friend Denen, with whom he had a strange relationship. Those and Daed Whitefeather and all the others, even Riki in far-flung Riverfall.

"Oh, you know. We protect and we serve the horseclans. I rode courier to Riverfall earlier this season, and I tend to the Web, though I'm still a bit of a novice with all that. Are you a healer?"

Bright scratched his neck a bit, and put on a face of good humor, "I guess you could say that. Attempting to be anyway. Though, I'm still mastering the basics. I want to be in the Opal Order. Someday anyway." Bringing his hand to rest on his empty belt, his thoughts consumed him. He would have to try a lot harder if he wanted to get anywhere near that title.

He sighed, forgetting the presence of the other for a moment, and ran his fingers through his bangs. He then noticed how the time had passed, he would have to be moving along if he wanted to catch his family, with the exception of his father, at the market. "The day is short, my friend. Meetings need to be kept," he spoke totally aware that this man probably had to idea of what he was talking about. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Sama'el." He offered the man a warm smile in regard, "But I do have to go. I apologize for my briefness. May our paths cross again in the near future?" He offered out his hand.

"I'm in the Watch," he reminded him with wry humor, clasping wrists with him again. "We always need healers."

With a smile, he saluted Bright and continued on his way to the War Pavilion to give his report to the powers that be, the powers that protected Endrykas and its clans by day and by night. Just before the crowd claimed him, he turned with another bright smile and waved. Sam just sort of liked people.
