The Sickle and Arrow
Hunters play an important part in Symenestra culture and are highly regarded. Very few animals exist naturally in the vast caverns that form their home, and meat is sometimes hard to come by. On top of that, dangerous creatures threaten the city. Many of the buildings on the edge of Kalinor are abandoned due to the fact that its population is growing smaller and smaller. The hunters are those that make sure that the city is safe from harm, and they bring much needed food back from the surface.
Even though the hunters play such an important part, the building where they gather to train and discuss their hunts is situated on the outskirts of Kalinor rather than in the center, not too far from the abandoned parts of the city where they often go on patrol. It is a plain building, grey, functional rather than beautiful. Like all buildings in Kalinor the entrance is at the top of the building. From there stairs lead downwards towards the main room.
The walls of the main room are grey as well and decorated with various trophies. Rugs made of fur cover the floor. They have been made from animals that the hunters have killed on the surface. Not all hunters are allowed to display their trophies here. Only trophies from the most dangerous hunts can be found in this room. The desire to have their trophies displayed in the hunter’s headquarters makes many young Symenestra strife harder.
Apart from the trophies the room also contains chairs and tables where the hunters can gather to talk. There is a small door as well that opens onto a narrow bridge of silk that connects the meeting room with another building. That building can only be accessed through the bridge. It contains several chests filled with weapons. Apart from those chests it is mostly empty. It servs as a place for the hunters to practice before they go out into the real world and use their skills on real, dangerous animals.
Any Symenestra that wishes to improve their skills as a hunter or needs advice on how to hunt a certain animal or how to best conduct a Harvest – or just wishes to hear stories of past hunts – is free to come here. There is usually always at least one other hunter there that is willing to help.
